Two minutes in to "Let Me Back In" just startled me, in a good way.
It's funny how people (not here really) were worried about the short track length for the single, and now I have the album on my computer and the second shortest track is seven minutes long.

This has been a hellova good year for post-rock so far... Mogwai just put out another fantastic album and now Explosions has responded with a return from a 5 year gap with a strong showing... Godspeed has made a glorious return to the touring circuit and all three are proving why they stand above the rest in the genre.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
Their music is so effective at invoking strong emotions. I suppose it's the nature of the beast that is "post-rock", but Explosions makes me the happiest. Those clean guitars dig the hooks into the top of your spine and carry you off into the heavens. NoD, you were right about that surprise, by the way. Beautiful.

Yea usually post-rock makes me kind of depressed, Slint, Mogwai, Godspeed, all bands I really like by the way. But Explosions does a good job of getting a positive reaction instead of a desperate/melancholy one.
I think the key for Explosions in the Sky is the way their songs build to a climax, I think it's kind of uplifting to start out slow/melow and gradually build up till the music because louder/faster/more complex etc. For me atleast I find that I kind of build up with the song as it progresses. I am really curious to see what it will be like live...
Yeah, it's interesting that they're able to do that, because really their music isn't much less melancholy than any of the others. I'm sure it's hard work to be able to pull joy out of that style of music, and they do a great job at opening up different avenues to approach the music.

It's going to be glorious man. Can't decide whether to sweat it out in the tent or stare at the stars go by overhead from the grass. It's weird though, that's the typical formula for the post-rock stuff, the soft-loud build up, but most of it doesn't elicit a positive, or happy feeling inside me. I just don't think I could throw on Godspeed to try to get myself into a good mood, whereas Explosions really would work.

I just downloaded the Trembling Hands single. Am I the only one that found the "Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh" Leno annoying?
Listen to the whole record from front to back, the single seems to fit more in the big picture than it does standing alone, i personally said "darn, i dont think this band has ever recorded "vocals"" personally in the mix with the rest of the album i feel it has a perfect fit but i can see what you mean.

it's cuz they play in major keys (for the most part) and most of the other post-rock groups play in minor keys. it's also the fanfare themes.
this band is remimnding of Sigur Ros in the sense that i have not heard of them. and like sigur ros in 08, everyone is giving them so much praise. i remember leaving the phil lesh and friend show and went and watched about 10 min of sigur(not impressed). after that i went to kanye where he was sabatoged by glowsticks
No band has musically captured the dilemmas of our post-rock lives like they have.
I lol'd.
I definitely will be in the back on the grass for this one. I really hope it's late night but anything will do, honestly. I really love the new album (thanks for the link). They're definitely on the more uplifting side if the genre which is really why they're my favorite within it.
Uh, yeah. No comparison between Sigur Ros and EITS... but, like many others have said here, I love them as well, and they would be one of my top five must see acts this year.
Edit: realized I left this one a bit vague... Sigur Ros > EITS... but only one ">" , lol.

I really wish the blanket statements about which is better would stop. It's really unnecessary. I love them both and love just getting the opportunity to see either, especially at roo.
