I was pretty surprised they weren't lower than they are on the lineup, shocked they aren't lower than Gogol and Big Boi. I was def thinking they'd end up on the bottom half of the lineup. This implies to me that ac knows how big they might be among the roo crow, which makes me think they'll give them a good set time.
Does anyone know if they have a history of playing really long sets? I could easily see this being the act that goes from like 2am till sunrise if they do.... that would be so awesome.
Wow im really surprised not that many people on here listen or know about explosions in the sky. I have been listening to them for a few years now they are very very good live. Im surprised they arent up higher on the list instead of lower they are one of the best post rock bands. If you like them check out Godspeed! You Black Emperor cant wait to see them next month!

agreed that they deserve the most epic of late night time slots. as much as i love to cut a rug, i'd rather see these guys than any dj. i will be well-rested and front and center for this set.
i hope the play Friday Night Lights (kidding).
and if you like these guys try out El Ten Eleven. similar post-rock sound but more laid back

Wow. I just had my first listen, and I'm in. I didn't know I could like music that's purely instrumental this much. I hope that they, more than almost anyone, has a late night show. I want to lay on a blanket staring into the sky for their entire set.
saw them at Coachella in '07 at sunset really the perfect time for them to play
That was a great show. I've been hoping they would play Roo ever since I saw them there. They played late in the day at Lolla too, and it went over pretty well. I think late night would be better, but sunset would be cool as well (especially if they're on the main stage).
maybe that means a saturday night/sunday morning set though?
doubtful. playing the which at sunset would be a killer way to end the festival (if thats how it works out i will see them>Robert Plant and prob leave during WSP)
this is going to be amazing, been waiting for them since i started going to bonnaroo

I'm starting to think these guys have usurped the number 1 spot on my must-see list. AF is my favorite band on the lineup but I'll have seen them twice by Roo. It's pretty much a tie between MMJ and EITS.
As much as I hope for EITS>The Strokes on Sunday, I'm still dreading a conflict between the two if Explosions ends up closing out a tent. Iron & Wine is higher on the lineup so I'm afraid they'd play before The Strokes, if The Strokes do in fact close the Which Sunday.
I agree that they've become my #1 mostly because I've never seen them, and I've seen others like Arcade Fire, MMJ, Cheese, Decemberists, Ray LaMontagne and Mumford, who are all at the top of my list. I'm still holding out for that late night from Explosions, but feel they could get the shaft like Animal Collecitve in 09. Their music just sounds better well after the sun has gone down. And lineup placement doesn't necessarily mean a later time slot. Andrew Bird was listed before Band of Horses in 09 and BOH played right after him.

unfortunately its the opposite. an hour to hour and a half is pretty standard for these guys. still, can't wait to finally see them!
All I need for them to do is play 'The Birth and Death of Day' and my life will be complete. Cannot wait to finally see them live. They are playing at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Sadly it is a seated venue. I was so happy to see they were on the line up.
Explosions In The Sky have announced their new album Take Care,Take Care,Take Care and put up a free download of the song "Trembling Hands" on their website.

That's got to be their shortest song, right? Though none of their other songs really start that fast I guess. I think I remember some quote from them from a while ago saying something like "The music feels different than anything we've done before," talking about the new album. Still think the song is pretty good though.
"On their fifth album, Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, the band take some of their greatest creative leaps yet, experimenting with layers of haunting, unplaceable sounds, euphoric vocals, classical guitar, body percussion, Japanese singing bowls and more. With solitary focus and collaborative vision, each instrument clearly exudes the spirit and inspiration of its player, squeezing more expression and lyricism out of guitars and drums than most singers could ever conjure with their voices. Take Care, Take Care, Take Care is Explosions In The Sky's most texturally diverse and emotionally dynamic album yet, and certainly their most masterfully crafted. It emanates a subtle humanity and disarming comfort that marries youthful idealism with intangible magic. It is perhaps the most emotionally arresting album by a band responsible for some of the most emotionally arresting music of the past decade." www.scdistribution.com/resources/trr199.pdf
I can't wait... Playing through the night to sunrise...now that's what I would call perfect.

If they open with that song and close with The Only Moment We Were Alone, they could spend the entire middle portion of the set making fart jokes and covering Toby Keith songs for all I care.
