As far as people not getting into it--I was almost frozen with awe, and assumed everyone else was too.
yeah, that's kinda the impression I got from everyone.
I mean, the people that were already fans knew they were going to get blown away, and all the other people out there, especially the ones already tripping on something, were just totally blindsided.
I have been to Bonnaroo this year and last year, and Tool has definitely been my favorite act. Both Radiohead and Tool are in my top five bands, so I feel that my opinion here is reasonably unbiased. I really enjoyed the Radiohead marathon, but there was just something infinitely more psychedelic and otherworldly about the Tool show that just fit better IMO with the Bonnaroo atmosphere. I would really like to see them back next year, perhaps as a post-midnight show or something, because they just added such a great, sort of antichrist pink floyd, element.
In other news, I saw a picture of a setlist that had Anarchy In The UK on it. Did we miss out??
"Anarchy in the UK" was a secret phrase for a setbreak(which they didn't actually take). Most of their shows this tour have been divided in two. They usually take a break, then break into Wings->10,000 days and the rest of the show. I've seen a hand full of setlists this tour where they put a random phrase in for the setbreak. it's been different every night, but people just haven't been able to grab a hold of all the setlists to prove this theory. but that's all it meant. ;D

When Tool opened up and Adam Jones turned that volume knob on that pretty silver burst gibson les paul he flattened 5 people right in front of me. I didn't see it, but my gf said people were passing out and hitting the ground like flies in a fire.
I knew Tool was going to blow the place away...I came prepared with sunglasses to cover my tear filled eyes. They're music has such heart and violence and emotion all tied together in a beautiful symphony. You guys don't realize it yet but they're the next Pink Floyd. Nobody does prog rock like Tool...and they're just getting warmed up. 10,000 days is probably their best album and one day our children will look at us in awe that we heard them live at Bonnaroo.
I was totally expecting to see John Paul Jones and Adam Jones play f'in "No Quarter"...if you guys thought Gov't Mule was good...they would have melted the earths crust beneath us had they played that song.
A little public service announcement for ya...never mix TOOL and PSYCODELICS...bad, bad, bad...it was so intense I cried...ALOT. Am I not cool anymore????
I don't know about "psycodelics"(I bet they are a blast), but psychedelic drugs and Tool are not mutally exclusive. Especially at Bonnaroo.

yeah the setbreak is usually so they can fill the arena with smoke for the lasers, which start in the 10K days portion of the set. However, at roo it would have been useless.

I had Aenima and Lateralus before seeing the show. I liked them, wasn't crazy for the band though.
I now have heard all their albums save the Opiate EP and Salival, and I love the band. Seeing them live definitely changes your perspective - live Tool blows recorded Tool out of the water.
I've got to say the show was just what I expected. I was even expecting Tom Morello, having heard about his connections to the band. Tool is a good band but not really my thing. It wasn't live changing or mind bending or face melting or feet smelling or anything like that for me. It was just a pretty cool show.
I have gotten a lot more into tool ever since this show(and I didn't even enjoy the show all that much, i've just started listening to them a lot more and I <3 it), I really wish I liked them this much before I saw them.

Tom Morello finally posted his Bonnaroo Blog on his Nightwatchman myspace page today....I thought you guys might get a kick out of what he had to say about playing with Tool....
"That night I joined Tool on stage and did a reprise of my Ted Nugent-stlye solo during their song, Lateralus. It's certainly the first time I've ever played a guitar solo in 17-24 time but I enjoyed it tremendously and little Maynard was cute."
Little Maynard was cute...LOL! Think that was a diss over the phone thing? And listening back to the set....what is it that Maynard says about Tom in his intro....."the master of the" I could SWEAR he says "gay-wah solo".... ??? The inside jokes there....would LOVE to know.....
