I've never really listened to Tool, other than a few singles on the radio, so I went to the show with an open mind. I wasn't disappointed, but I was bored. I stayed for about an hour, maybe a little more, then went back to the RV. I guess Tool is just not my thing, but I'm glad you guys enjoyed it!
Did anyone else notice that during Aenima maynard switched the order of the "Fuck L ron hubbard and fuck all his clones" line with the "fuck retro anything, fuck your tattoos." Do you think he screwed up?

no, he messes with those lyrics quite often. Im actually suprised he stuck as close to the album lyrics as he did.

I have been to Bonnaroo this year and last year, and Tool has definitely been my favorite act. Both Radiohead and Tool are in my top five bands, so I feel that my opinion here is reasonably unbiased. I really enjoyed the Radiohead marathon, but there was just something infinitely more psychedelic and otherworldly about the Tool show that just fit better IMO with the Bonnaroo atmosphere. I would really like to see them back next year, perhaps as a post-midnight show or something, because they just added such a great, sort of antichrist pink floyd, element.
In other news, I saw a picture of a setlist that had Anarchy In The UK on it. Did we miss out??
Welcome Horatio, and I completely agree with the otherworldly description. That's something Bonnaroo needs more of. Stuff that kinda rips open a hole in space and slingshots you to the 5th dimension.

A little public service announcement for ya...never mix TOOL and PSYCODELICS...bad, bad, bad...it was so intense I cried...ALOT. Am I not cool anymore????
Yea i completely disregarded this very important fact. I took half of a sheet thinking i would be fine (I am very experienced but this was just a bad call on my part). I completely lost it during schism. I think it was the mix of moshing, visuals, etc. Overall just to intense. If i could kick my own ass i would because that was my main draw to bonnaroo this year and i blew it by being over zealous with the psychedelics. I was in the front middle of the pit by the way.
OK, finally got around to going out to YouTube and some other sites to SEE the awesome Morello solo (since we were pretty far back so we could enjoy the lights and vids and such...)
Am I the ONLY person that missed the fact that Tom played the last part of that F**KING awesome solo WITH HIS TEETH???? ??? ??? ???
I'm a Tool fan, but had never seem them before. Personally, I thought they were awesome, particularly Tom Morello's appearance. However, my friend who has seen Tool many times and is a fan said that he was disappointed, that he's seen better shows of theirs, etc. I don't know, but I think that if you were a fan to begin with you probably loved it, but it wasn't going to create any new converts.

I just saw a good video of that part of his solo, and nearly cried since I missed it . That solo was nothing short of face melting, he brought down the house.

Guitar God just doesn't seem to do justice anymore....shock and awe indeed! WOW.....
Why couldn't he have brought Rage with him? Man I will never forgive myself for missing that solo. I just cannot stand Tool at all (no offense Tool fans, although I will probably get smited anyway). Maybe if I had known he would guest (I suspected it, given the friendship of Adam Jones+ Tool and Tom Morello and RATM) I would have tried to make it to when Tom soloed, and I would have left right after.

I also had a suspicion, felt like it was a strong possibility given the ties and the mood Tom was in after his show. Even wore my RATM Tee to bring luck But with Tool, you never know...
I'm not the world's biggest Tool fan, but there was nothing else playing against them and never having seen them live, their stage show was supposed to be really awesome. And I do like a lot of their stuff, so it wasn't like I wasn't enjoying it before. But man, when Maynard announced Tom was coming on, I wished like ANYTHING I was up front in the pit!!! But at least I heard it and got to experience it first hand... even if from a distance....

they always put a joke song on their setlists for fun haha...they dont actually play them...
Did anyone notice him change a verse in flood to something along the lines of " this crowd is not the rock I thought it would be"
i definetly noticed this but i wasnt 100% sure that these werent the original lyrics as i had know them. anyways they lyrics seemed relevant to the scene from a certain perspective
it reminded me of the don henly lyrics "saw a dead head sticker on a cadilac, a little voice inside my head said dont look back you can never look back" the dead scene can take on extreme beauty and extreme ugliness but " once in awhile you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right" G.D.

I thought Flood was an awesome song to play off of the Undertow album. I think it goes well with the songs from 10,000 days. Also I got to see Tool in cincy last Friday and I have to say that we had a very good set. AEnima is such an amazing song live, and looking back on the Tom Morello guest in, I would take this over the amazing drum solo they did in cincy for that song. Oh by the way on the drive back from cincy I had my gf and friend listen to the live Tool from bonnaroo, the live Superjam, and then my DJ Shadow from roo show. So I kind of made them relive my live experience from 2 weeks prior on that day. I thought it was kind of cool, expecially using goodies from roo

It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

wow, I'm sorry to hear that. It made what was probably a great show into a religious experience for me and a lot of other people I talked to.
