Am I the only one who was slightly disappointed in this show/ with dan in general? They had one of the best slots for an hour and a half, only played just over an hour. Superjam last show in that tent, started late, ended on time. it was like dan just didn't want to play and was just playing to get it over with.
I agree with you. I had to pee so bad that I left thinking I would be missing about 30 mins of the set. Turns out they finished the song they were playing and then 1 more after that and left. I found it very odd.
Don't know if there is any truth to this at all, but as I was walking in the next day and a security guard took some glow sticks from the kid in front of me and said The Black Keys were getting him with them last night and that they were pissed. I guess that could be a reason, but I have no idea how accurate this was at all. I don't remember seeing them get hit by any, but I didn't have the best view in the world.
I don't think glow sticks made it all the way up to Dan.
As for their show, I thought it was badass! Tons of energy and Dan really displayed his chops. IMO Dan has always been a good guitarist but mostly just played really fuzzed out, super catchy, bluesy riffs. He really did some great picking and added some real intricacies to his playing. He's not in Jack White territory, but I think he showed that he has it in him to become a great guitar player.
I was pretty close (up on rail behind pit) but totally think that it is difficult for their presense to translate on a huge stage. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people not blown away by their show were further back on the audience.

just because i wasn't on the rail or front row, doesn't mean i was not "BLOWN AWAY" this was the 3rd or 4th time seeing them, ive been everywhere in the crowd. front row, middle, back. this was one of the most lacking shows of theirs that i saw. was it a good setlist? yes. did dan do some good playing? yes. was patrick a fountain of sweat? yes. did they play to their full potential for going from that to what? no. did dan make an attempt to make up for the lost time in superjam? no.
Seventh album to be released later this year. Holy cow they never stop.
Of the album Auerbach says that “it doesn’t really sound like Brothers” and that listeners should expect “more guitar and rock ‘n roll.” He also says that this is The Black Keys’ “fastest” album to date, citing The Cramps, The Clash and The Rolling Stones as the main influences.

The poster they had for Calgary a couple weeks after Roo was a little dissapointing and so was Cage The Elephant. But as usual The Keys were UNREAL and the new album news is very, very exciting. The quote I read last week had Dan saying Brother was their soul-rock record and the new one is going to be dirty/bluesy. AWESOME!
The Black keys have finished recording their new album. Hopefully we don't have to wait to long for the release. Hope they go back to more of the Thickfreakness and Magic Potion sound with this album. I liked Brothers a lot but I want to hear some hard rock blues.
I was far from upset I really enjoyed it and stayed until the end. In fact everyone I was with enjoyed it.
Really? I only caught a short bit of the show (was at Robert Plant and then wandering between Strokes/EITS/Super Jam) and was kind of bored with it, to be honest.
But I didn't see enough of it myself to weigh-in, I'm just relaying the vibe I was getting from people who saw most or all of it.
Thought the song was decent. I agree, very consistent. Hopefully there will be some different stuff on the CD. I don't really want to pay "Brothers part 2".
