I wish more collaborations would happen at 'Roo. Hell, in '09 with David Byrne and Al Green performin' on the same day, within a few hours of each other, I was giddy with hope that durin' one or the other's performance they'd get together fer "Take Me To The River." Alas, it did not happen and I was super sad.
They talk about recording in both of these interviews. In the first interview they say that a new album will hopefully be out by the end of the year. In the second interview they say that it could be finished by middle of april.
Yea I wasn't expecting that but am glad to see it. They have gotten huge over the past few years and totally deserve it. Nothing but great songs form these guys.

I expected them to be high on the line-up. I thought maybe around #6...But I never expected them to be billed higher than MMJ or Buffalo springfield...
It was a gift to see them in a tent last year. So much greatness in a small space, it was pretty special.
Couldn't agree more. I'd always rather see a band I love in a tent (and late night, cmon!) than on a stage, as long as they're not so big that it's way crowded. I know many people thought the Keys show was overcrowded, but I was towards the back of the tent and it was pretty fine. Or maybe I was right outside the tent.
I agree intimate is better, but I got shafted where I was standing because there was too many people. I was on the fringe of the tent concrete pad and thus those on the pad had about a 5-6 inch advantage in height, thus I didnt' get to 'see' much of the show. I also didn't want to be the douche that cuts in front of people by walking up to the front. I still really enjoyed the show though.
so. i really liked the black keys back in 07 when "rubber factory" and "thickfreakness" were the rage, but i've kind of abandoned them since then, and never really got back into them.
do their present day setlists still contain a lot of those two albums or are they more "Attack & Release" and "Brothers" heavy?

There was no problem with the sound quantity and quality even 50 feet outside the tent. I just wish I could have seen what was happening in the tent - looking forward to a stage this year. They deserve it and they can deliver it.

they do a good job of mixing up their set list. i saw them 3 times during the last tour, and 3 times prior to the release of Brothers(bonnaroo, cleveland in july and new years day in chicago) it was definitely brothers heavy, but they played something from each album all 3 times i saw them.
their set would be a mixture of all the pre-brothers albums, a brothers set with a bassist and somebody playing keys, the two additional members would then go off stage and they would do some more off the pre-brothers albums.
my guess is they will get a 1.5 hr to 2 hr set at Roo depending on how the schedule falls(whether its keys > eminem or keys > buffalo springfield > eminem). if it keys > eminem i expect a little longer set. they will give a good mixture, and if theres a new album coming out this year we will hear some from that, a couple teasers if its not released, and most likely a heavy mix of it if it had been released.
The Chicago show they jammed a lot more then normal, it was different, but really cool experience. The Cleveland show this year was incredible, heres the setlists for Cleveland and Chicago shows, I used to have the Bonnaroo setlist on my zune, but the setlist.fm one is incomplete.(the songs with the additional members in bold)

I missed these guys at Roo last year and was sick afterwards but the Flips show was really good. I got to see them last December at the HOB in Orlando. I've seen quite a few shows there, I've never seen it that packed. It was a great show. Really, really good. If they come out with another strong album between now and the festival season then what they have done is pretty damn amazing. They've been touring for over a year, have been one of the more commercially successful bands of the year and still had the time to drop a new album. That's work ethic America can be proud of; if the new album is of the same quality then I'm in love. Exciting times.
I really really really like these guys and have for a few years, but the 4th billing confuses me as well...
They're pretty huge now. Grammys, commercials, movies/television.......their music has succesfully crossed over and now they are seeing the benefits. I would maybe put Buffalo Springfield ahead of them but even that is iffy to me.

at least with the mainstream success they are having they are still putting out good music. it seemed to me that attack and release was more of a commercial album musically, then they come back with brothers which seems to me more of a back to roots blues music....even tho they are getting a lot of play off that album.

I agree Streetbum.........I still love their tunes. There's just no denying that they've blown up over the past year or two and have gotten pretty well known.
It's funny when I read people saying that they sold out. If they're still making awesome music, why would anyone care if they grabbed some extra cash because people want to use their tunes in commercials? They'd be stupid not to.

I remember reading an Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse frontman) interview once. In it the interviewer said how some fans were pissed off that a MM song was used in a commercial, and he basically said something like (paraphrasing), "Well when you have to decide between appeasing all of your fans, or being able to pay your electricity bill the next month, it's not a hard decision."
I think some fans get this idea that just because a band has multiple albums out and tours, it mean's they have it made and can live off their earnings the rest of their life. I'd sure as hell put my song in a car/jewelry/whatever commercial if it meant a nice check.

I remember when some Wilco fans got upset about Wilco using a song in a car commercial and Jeff Tweedy came out and said that it wasn't the first time and Wilco has done it with many of their songs.
It pays the band and gives them wider exposure. I don't have a problem with it.
