I wouldn't read into that too much, bands play both festivals all of the time. And Pearl Jam has an exclusive contract with live nation yet they played Outside Lands,Bonnaro (ac/superfly) and Lollapalooza all in the last 5 years. I can't see Bono restricting himself for the next 10 years from other festivals or promoters,he's a smart guy, and you are basically outing yourself for good, unless 10 years from now 60 year old Bono crosses Bonnaroo off his bucket list. It would just make no sense to basically shut down all chances to play the U.S biggest festival. I expect them to be @ Bonnaroo & Glastonbury this year. I thik that agreement was in place to have them play Glasto last year and Bonnaroo X this year, Bono got hurt, they canceled, now he has to play both this summer. The 10th anniversary is a big deal, so why not have the biggest band over the last 25 years headline.
Who is a bigger band in the last 25 years that has had more success than U2? Come on now, are you really going to argue that U2 isn't that band?
You know people are going to say Radiohead.
Since 1985? There have been plenty of bands bigger than U2, they have really only blown up in the last ten years or so. Radiohead is the first but not the only one that comes to mind.

lol, but I mean you know what I mean, I;m not trying to promote U2 either, I just think it makes sense, they play a Vegas greatest hits show now, but it's still great to see live. I mean sure u could argue a few other bands but none have been as succesful as U2 in the 80's,90's,2000's we are now in our 4th decade of U2, holy shit am I old

U2 blew up in the last 10 years? Wow, I guess the Zoo tv tour, the Joshua tree and actung baby were just figments of my imagination that nobody paid attention too in the 80s or 90s.

The Boss's biggest album was in 84, so I guess he is out of the running. U2 was unstopable from 83/84 - 91, They have sold more albums from that era than Pearl Jam or Red Hot Chili Peppers have in their entire respective careers. Metallica has seen almost as much commercial success since 84, but like U2, they slumped in the 90s (just not nearly as bad). The big thing to consider here, is that U2 has been huge since all that you can't leave behind came out.
Judging a band's size in an unopinionated way has to be done with great consideration to the band's commercial success.
Garth Brooks, during his music career, saw more success than U2. Michael Jackson, from 1980 had more success The Backstreet Boys, despite making god awful music, were more successful during their careers
That said, U2 is the only band I can think of that has had a huge level of success in the last 25 years that is still relevant.

i agree. U2 is the biggest band of the past 25 years. no other band has reached the level of success they did in that span and then maintained it. sure certain bands have eclipsed U2 for periods of time, but none of them maintained it.
and yeah, "U2 blowing up in the past 10 years" is incredibly incorrect.
and yes, Radiohead definitely doesn't stand a chance until '97 and even at their peak i don't think they match U2 at their peak (popularity wise, not talent wise or anything)

yeah, i'll dig it. of the "bs hair metal" Scorpions are definitely my favorite anyways. as long as we're not counting Van Halen or GNR or anything like that among them, like some people do.
i think that site had a cool idea, but they gave shitty scores. and the "random play" thing should be removed, it's just personal bias on the part of the judges which shouldn't really be included.
