Its not like once you walk on the farm you are handed signs that says Tool fan or Police fan. Honestly you cant tell one from the other. And at Bonnaroo, noone is different there are probably 60,000 other Tool or Police fans there. Do you really think that they would book headliners for a festival of this caliber thinking they were only going to attract 1 handful of fans? So dont feel different, threatened or use this thread for basis of opinion for an entire festival. I think this topic in general was truely started on misinformation and misintrepretation, this thread actually started in defense to those beliefs, and very few on this board and the Roo community in general that have a bad feeling about/towards Tool and the Police

I think what I am trying to respond to in these threads is: tool fans don’t have horns on their heads … they are not going to come there with Molotov cocktails …. My question to everyone that says, hey hey, just another band …. Have anyone on this board been to a tool show outside, with the possibility of 60k fans plus wanting to get up close, after a day of 90/90 heat and humidity … ??? My guess is no one here can say they have … we are in new territory ….. If it were tori amos fans, I wouldn’t even think about it … but thrown in how devoted the fans are, hot hot heat, first full day of the show ….. its just be cautious and don’t expect this to be like any indoor fest you have ever been too, and don’t expect it is like the Dead playing at the roo … not saying good or bad, just different … cr*****
You guys are funny. Of course there's going to be idiots - there always are (how about the frat boy invasion of dead shows in the late 80's). I was in high school when the Police were big (by the way, we "middle aged" girls are coming to Roo too.) but I can't truly say I'd know a Tool song if it hit me on the head. The point here is the Roo is really big - you can get yourself away from a bad scene pretty easily.
So, relax, enjoy and thanks ccgrmac for mentioning that there were hippies and cool people way back when too. If I do say so myself, I remain pretty frickin cool at 41.

Frankly, I was more concerned that the emo kids might hurt themselves last year; the type of Tool fan that would cause trouble wouldn't want to pay $300+ just to do so. I will be watching out for the jazz cats lured by the new Blue Note club though, they might be trouble.
this thread seemed funny to me......i remember when i first found out tool was playing, i thought damn that's cool...i haven't even thought of that band in years and used to really dig some of their songs.....
and when i heard the police were playing i thought....i know they were popular but cant recall any of their songs....maybe ill check em out to get a refresher.....
now i am ~29 and my buddy who has went to most all the shows ive attended is ~32......we are both roo vets (me=2, him=4), and former phish phollowers, sci, keller, ymsb, and countless wsp shows.....he is also thrilled tool will be there......and he assures me ill ge grooving on the police once they start playing......
the reason i post is that im in your "older" group.....and i usually only attend hippie fests but i also consider myself a tool fan......but i sure dont recall ruining anyone's b'roo in the past years......and i do like to get pretty ripped when the moon is right....
hell we had 3 random hippies sleeping under our shade tent a couple of years ago.....they even ate pancakes with us the next morning..... ;D
I had just gotten sick and tired of reading posts from a few feeble minded individuals about how evil Tool fans are and how much they are going to spoil things. When they compared this to how Radiohead fans (Radiohead - a group of upper middle class white English boys from Oxfordshire) got all big up in their faces last year, it got me laughing even harder. Comedy gold. Or should I say comedy paranoia?
I'm looking forward to seeing as many bands as I can, be it Tool or not. Although I'm going to stay away from those rowdy jazz people, I hear they are the real ones to watch.
there seems to be a lot of college folks at these fests.....what ive noticed over the years is a bimodal distribution in age......a huge grouping of 18-24 and then another at +40......just an observation.....
i group myself with the older group since i dont usually know much about the music and/or artists in the younger group.....i certainly dont consider myself *old*

Between the fact that TOOL is touring (so no one off) and the fact that it is a trek to actually make it to bonnaroo, i think that the stereotyped tool fan will be in short supply.
Plus, those of us who are there for good music, good people and good times will overpower them and force them to capitulate to our ways...
Nothing shuts down a mosh pit quite like a group hug, right?
