Tool's music does not generate alot of moshing. Plus, I do not see a lot of Tool fans coming to the festival besides those fans like me who are also fans of other bands at Roo this year. Most Tool fans I know are not interested in seeing them outside. Tool's shows having amazing light shows and huge screens showing crazy videos. I think they are going to blow everyone's mind Friday night!
Tell me this would not be cool to see Friday night!

I will leave it at this, I cannot wait for Tool to make my head explode at Roo! I am ready for this especially watching a whole live show on you tube right now from 2001.

the more i read these threads, it seems like we should be more worried about uppity tool fans in 07 than we were about uppity radiohead fans in 06.
i'll go out on a limb here - not all tool fans are these crazy obsessed fanatics who pour all over the music, videos and album art. some just think it rocks. some just like it because thier friends like it, or because it's on the radio. hell, i bet there are tool fan who also listen to Nickelback.
Some of you people make it sound like going to a tool concert is like attending a graduate level course at a conservatory. Believe me, people go to tool shows to get drunk and rock out. They don't give a nuts if they are playing in some obscure guitar signature or if the lyrics are deep and meaningful.
i hope this doesnt sound hostile, and maybe these posts are just a reaction to those that think tool fans are going to ruin roo - and I agree, the response would be to paint them in a favorable light...but it's getting ridiculous.
the only thing tool is going to do is ruin the possibility of discussing other bands on inforoo!
(and, as I figured, the karma loss begins...)
this is way too much generalization. once again people are individuals. sure there are people who listen to tool because its on the radio, to be cool. but same thing with panic and sci, etc.. i know a whole lot of people who just listen to that because its kind of like the "cool" thing to do, even when they dont really know that much about music. And by the way i love tool but i dont go to the concert to "rock out and get drunk". and i also enjoy the odd time signatures and lyrics. these posts are just really close minded and are trying to define people by the music they listened to. and its really okay that not everyone is so focused on peace and love,, sure those things are great but our world is so much more interesting and complex. and there is no one way to live thats better than the rest. basically there are some a holes, schizos, murderers, any type of people in every group. the exterior is always misleading
dude, i don't think people listen to tool to be "cool." Tool is something you have to aquire a taste for. you get pulled into their music from respect for the band itself. tool is way more than just mainstream music. tool takes music to a whole new level.

There is quite a contrast from listening to Undertow then listening to 10000 days. You can just tell that they evolved and have become unbelievable on there respective instruments. Just youtube Danny Carey and listen to some interviews with him. His drum set and the background of the setup is something that no ordinary drummer would do. I think the people that are scared of what Tool will bring to roo, should listen to some newer interviews with the band and see where they are coming from with their music. It would change a lot of peoples perspectives.
Now the Police fans, I am scared of someone moshing to them with a wheelchair or a walker

Biggest Tool fan I ever knew robbed me of a lot of money, but he was also a big Grateful Dead and Phish fan. My point is that some people are losers, and the music those people listen to was decided long after they were already losers. Bad things can happen at all shows, but I think the major culprit is a-holes operating while drunk, not the band, as can be seen at that pops concert. I don't really care much to listen to Tool, just not really my thing, but I am 99 percent sure that I will be at the show, because I have heard such amazing things, and if I come across people I don't like, I will walk on until I find people who I do like.

speak for yourself,rooattendee07, i only listen to Tool so people will think I'm cool. It doesn't work that well.
life is what you make it.....so is Roo! creating negative outlooks about other people is what can ruin bonnaroo, not one band or their fans. i kinda like the police and enjoy tool, though not as much as i used to. everything is gonna be fine, can we hug now????

i totally agree with you but there are people who "say" they listen to them as a kind of social lubricant. i know they are not mainstream(musically speaking) at all but what used to be a loyal underground following has exploded into something much bigger. anytime that happens, people are ready to identify themselves with that. even if they have only heard aenema, schism, and vicarious. and thats ok but its kind of like why does someone need to misrepresent themselves over something insignificant as : i listen to such and such,, im so much more like you? but i agree tools music is from another world
I don't get this at all. I think the only people who will ruin the show is the negative people on this board. Give the band a chance. Is this not what we are here for? Have they not seen a Tool show? I listen to Gratfull Dead to Eye Hate God. But in the end it is all the same. Music. It makes me move and I love it!
I wanna know when 35-40 became "middle aged". Most fans of the Police are actually in this group - we were the ones in high school while The Police were popular.
minor point .. the police broke up at the end of 1984 .. thus 23 years ago .... so i think most people who originally liked the police are 40+ ... cr*****
I was 15 when they broke up - am 38 now - I would def not say "most" people are 40+ - I would believe 35+ - because there are alot of 35-40 year olds that were very into The POlice due to the heavy airplay on the radio

I saw sting a couple times and dug it. Thinking the Police are gonna be even better. As far as Tool goes I have never seen them but brother and cousin both told me its a show not too miss. I will give them the same chance I give anyone. As far as people go, I can only control myself. However, I have a feeling the Bonnaroo spirit will prevail. Can't wait for Roo and hope the police and Tool blow my mind!
Heh, after reading all these threads and posts about how "angry tool fans" are going to "wreck the vibe" I'm actually not looking forward to 'Roo.
I'm worried about all the hippies falling over the place after ingesting too much dope.
Honestly. I can't even believe you put "The Police" and "controversy" in the same gd sentence. That's even more hysterical than suggesting Radiohead spoil the atmosphere. As for the old man comment, I'm a 33 year old chick and one of the two reasons I'm going to this hippie fest is to see The Police (the other reason is Tool).

keep an open mind about this "hippie fest" - you may be going to see those two bands - but there will be some other shows that are on the same level and will blow your mind.
also - I would rather see hippies falling all over themselves from dope then a bunch of rude drunk people.

On the bright side there's only one more month of talking about this crap. As bad as all the back and forth about Tool has been on here, when we all get to Bonnaroo, nobody is going to be thinking about it anymore. We're going to have a damned blast.

Roger that, i look forward to walking around in a tool shirt all 4 days (yes i'm gonna do it on purpose) and hopefully change some folks minds about us meatheads, as well as picking up a few new bands myself.

I'm going to have agree with nerdgrrl here. I had never heard of Bonnaroo before...the only reason I was talked into going was b/c of Tool (who melted my face off last night in Southaven, MS) and The Police. Reading this board is quite confusing to me a lot of you characterize yourself as "Hippies"...isn't a Hippie a open minded, free spirited, preachin peace, love, happiness person? However, I can't believe your close-mindedness to certain bands and their fans...not just Tool or The Police, from what I've read this happens every year...give it up already. Tool and The Police may have sold me on going to my first Bonnaroo experience, but I am looking forward to seeing several other artists that I have enjoyed listening to over the years, as well as, being introduced to folks I've never even heard before a day in my life. I am by no means a Hippie, nor am I a methhead, angry Tool fan looking to cause trouble.

Just because people call themsleves hippies does not mean they don't have opinions, likes, dislikes.
I'm not saying b/c you characterize yourself as a hippie you can't have an opinion, or likes or dislikes...that's human nature. I am just under the impression that "hippies" are more open-minded and less judgmental to things and ideas that are different...and I haven't been feeling that vibe while reading these posts. It's almost like I have been branded with the letter A, condemned and chastised for being a Tool fan or a Police fan...for being different.

Like ncbst3 said, "Im not quite sure it was the people classifying theirselves as "hippie" that were the ones that had the doubts about Tool fans and the Police."
I have to say the majority of the people posting on here agree that the idea of tool's fans ruining anything is ridiculous. Don't let a few random people change your view of these boards.
Thats too bad. I don't think you can read one thread and think it gives you an a good vibe for the entire board. Just read around some more and I'm sure your opinion will change. There are PLENTY of Tool and Police fans here. Also, don't allow a message board make you feel that way.
