Yeah Tools last 2 albums are probably to confusing for your average meathead, but you could see that Tool was leaning this way now listening back on Aenimea. You could see them transitioning to more progressive, and personally want them to stay on the track they are on. But I would love for them to play some Eulogy, H, Jimmy, or Third Eye at Roo just because that would be friggin awesome.
I believe Tool's latest albums are some of their best work yet. Lateralus and 10,000 days for example. I can't think of one song on either of those albums I could "mosh" to. Lateralus and 10,000 days are mind expansion. These songs have depth that makes me want to analyze and decipher their meaning. These songs open doors instead of making me want to chuck a brick through a window. If any of you have ever seen the music videos for any of the songs off these albums, will know what I'm talking about. A typical meathead would see one thing in the video and simply get bored with it. A more analytical fan like myself, would study the video like a piece of art. Tool in my eyes, is the Pablo Picasso of our time in the music industry.
How many "are tool fans gonna ruin Roo?" threads are we gonna have. I dig Tool but they are far from being my favorite band. I saw them once at a festival(Voodoofest, New Orleans 2001). Everybody was chilled out and there were no problems whatsoever.
I am a fan of the Police. The Police being at Roo made coming this year an easy decision. I saw them twice back in the day. Their career arc coincided with my high school and college years. I am 45yrs old. This will be my third Roo. I promise I won't be giving any young "whippersnappers" a hard time. If you are nice, I'll probably share a bowl(of wheaties ) with you.
I am really concerned about the Dierks Bently fans though. Those people are just a**holes. I am kidding, in case you're wondering. I don't even know who he is.

You also have to consider the venue...I seriously doubt any fan would pay over $200 and camp for 4 days in that heat just to see one band and start trouble with other people.
Exactly! Some people like to categorize everyone. It helps them figure out who's "us" and who's "them." But the people that go to Bonnaroo aren't fans of a single band or artist. It's way too much time and money to see 1 act you like. The people who go to Bonnaroo are music fans. With 80,000 of us, there are bound to be some a-holes. But it's not something to worry about. Relax.
the more i read these threads, it seems like we should be more worried about uppity tool fans in 07 than we were about uppity radiohead fans in 06.
i'll go out on a limb here - not all tool fans are these crazy obsessed fanatics who pour all over the music, videos and album art. some just think it rocks. some just like it because thier friends like it, or because it's on the radio. hell, i bet there are tool fan who also listen to Nickelback.
Some of you people make it sound like going to a tool concert is like attending a graduate level course at a conservatory. Believe me, there are people who go to tool shows to get drunk and rock out. They don't give a crap if they are playing in some obscure guitar signature or if the lyrics are deep and meaningful.
i hope this doesnt sound hostile, and maybe these posts are just a reaction to those that think tool fans are going to ruin roo - and I agree, the response would be to paint them in a favorable light...but it's getting ridiculous.
the only thing tool is going to do is ruin the possibility of discussing other bands on inforoo!
(and, as I figured, the karma loss begins...)

I think some of it is the style of music or the complexity … one of the best examples is prog rock … you can read college dissertations, pages and pages online, asking if Yes’s Tales of Topographic Oceans, is one of the most complex and best lp’s ever .. yikes, that is decades old now … if you read something about the Stones Brown Sugar, it is more like “boy that’s a hot song”, or Clapton’s wonderful tonight, “boy isn’t that a romantic song”, but ask a Tool devotee about a certain song, and you might get at least the first page of that college dissertation (sometimes rant) … so I don’t know if it is the genre, i.e. prog in this case, or the more “complex” music that brings out the fervent devotees … cr****
I am a first time Roo'er and I am stoked to see The Police and Tool. I have been to All Good the last four years and I have loved every second of it. I listen to every type of music out there and I am love the lineup for Roo this year. I think people are worried about nothing. I come for the music and my issue is that alot of people do not and I am more concerned about them then the Tool and The Police fans. If you think about it, this is one of the most eclectic lineups of music you will see in one place. You are going to be able see Tool Friday night, The Police Saturday night ant Panic on Sunday night. How sick is that? Plus, all the other great musicians( I cannot wait for Mule late night) .. I have been to see Slayer, Hatebreed, DOWN to name a few and I had a blast and never ran into any trouble. The fans at those shows are just as respectable as at other shows.
I am going to see Tool in early June for the first time since I saw them at Lollapooloza 13 years ago. I cannot wait and I will make sure I let everyone know how it went.
tool is my #1 bonnaroo band (they are tied with tortoise). i was planning on going to roo before i knew tool would be there, that just sweetened the deal. i however will not be moshing, neither will any of my friends going, all of whom are obsessed with tool. we will just be there, getting our minds blown calmly. in fact i dont know any REAL tool fans who would think of moshing at their shows, because they would be paying close attention to the detail in the music.
some people wear band shirts ect. and banter like they love a band bc they feel accepted somehow by being linked to the label that goes along with listening to a particular band. we have all seen this im sure. these types arent serious and they wont be at roo.
if you are worried about any tool moshing, you shouldnt be. and if you decide that you still want to, it really doesn't matter because they will be there anyway.

Just for the record guys, I didn't mean to imply that anyone who thinks Tool will ruin Roo is stupid...just the idea of people thinking any band's fans will ruin it is stupid to me. Hope no one took that the wrong way.

For what its worth, I dont exaggerate when I say that Tool transcends me to another universe.
Ok, I dont actually leave earth, but to me anyway its much more then just rocking out, not that there is a damn thing wrong with that, but any "hand of God, interplanetary" experience I have spoken of is pretty genuine. I hope everybody can experience that in their life through whatever medium it takes, for me, its Tool.

same here. and i haven't experienced it in 4 years. well, i will about a week and half before bonnaroo. i know how amazing tool shows are and i want this bonnaroo one to be special.
I am 32 years old. Mom used to put on "Ghost in the Machine" when she cleaned house, so I have loved them since childhood. The only time I saw Tool was in a club in Nashville in 1994 on my 20th birthday, but I have been a huge fan since I first heard "Opiate".
Two things I am not:
1) Stereotypical
2)Old ;D
P.S. Despite what John Stewart says, there is no security problem at Roo. If a "meathead" decides to "make trouble" the fine gentleman in red shirts on horseback are MORE than capable of handling it.

once again, you and i are in total agreement. i too am not "old". our moms would be buddies ;D
to be completely honest with everyone i really have no desire to see Tool or the police aside from hearing roxanne and message in a bottle. its just added lil bonus. i have nothing against either band though. but halfway through there sets i'll prob be posting up in the sick spot for whatevers going on after
^^^^ You'll be very pleased. Decided to leave Panic after only one song in 2003 and walked up to the tent that had MMW on the late night schedule. Ended up sitting with about twenty people right up front. After a couple of hours of getting to know these folks, I stood up and realized that I was at the very front of a sea of about 20,000 people. Front row for that show was worth missing Panic.
The real band that will cause trouble is being overlooked by everyone. I mean seriously, what is going to happen when those metal heads Rodrigo y Gabriela come out in their slayer shirts and rock out some metallica covers. Their meathead fans just wont be able to resist burning the place down! Come on folks, this whole thing is stupid.

this is way too much generalization. once again people are individuals. sure there are people who listen to tool because its on the radio, to be cool. but same thing with panic and sci, etc.. i know a whole lot of people who just listen to that because its kind of like the "cool" thing to do, even when they dont really know that much about music. And by the way i love tool but i dont go to the concert to "rock out and get drunk". and i also enjoy the odd time signatures and lyrics. these posts are just really close minded and are trying to define people by the music they listened to. and its really okay that not everyone is so focused on peace and love,, sure those things are great but our world is so much more interesting and complex. and there is no one way to live thats better than the rest. basically there are some a holes, schizos, murderers, any type of people in every group. the exterior is always misleading

i think one point people are missing from some of what i said is: the only problem i see with tool and the fans is just the numbers and devotion ... i don't think they will be any crazier then some of the other people at the roo but they will be up front for hours before tool comes on so they can get a good spot ... it is not the individual fan i worry some about, but the shear mass of humanity at the show ... and i have never once said anything about moshing, but have you ever really been in a major surge ... the back starts pushing to the front like waves and it can be a little overwhelming if you are not prepared ... cr*****

yea, people are thinking i'm crazy right now. but i would bet there will be some people here complaining here after the festival. i just hope it's not too much of an issue. i know some sci fans are going to be really annoyed if they are playing before tool.
