They would both be great and it is nothing against Prince. But do you really think he would have a setlist like that. Paul McCartney might have the best catalog of music out there. I don't know how anyone can disagree with that. Show me a setlist with more hits on it than that one. I would love to see it.
Glad you said it and not me, Juggs. I'm ready to virtually smack some sense into people.
I'm only going to say this, because posts like that hurt my brain so much - making a statement like "none of them could put together a 37 song setlist that stout" basically presupposes that the Beatles are the be-all and end-all of music.
They are not the be-all and end-all of music but they are the the most popular group ever and achieved that while making meaningful and socially conscious music. They reshaped popular music as we know it. Also I said that The Stones could probably put a 37 song setlist like that.
For instance, I'd rather see a 37 song set from My Morning Jacket, or Radiohead, or Wilco, or Jay-Z. So to me, yes, there are bands that I think could put on a much better 37 song setlist.
Totally agree. I'm a big Beatles/Paul fan but I'd take a 3+ hour show from MMJ, Radiohead, Wilco, or Jay-Z over him. I just like the other bands more right now.
People read too much into post on here sometimes. Ok I said no one could put a setlist like that together except for The Stones maybe. That is my opinion but why can't it be a fact. We are talking about someone who has sold over a billion records so there are a lot of people who probably agree. No I can scientifically prove that no one else can do it. But Lennon/McCartney have been deemed the best songwriters ever. It is hard to imagine if anyone or group will reach that kind of musical stature again. To Jugg's mainstream point that has nothing to do with this conversation at all. What does other people's opinions on bands going mainstream today have anything to do with what I said? I will answer that for you: Nothing. Yes you might rather want to see someone else do a 37 song playlist, but that's your opinion. Don't present your opinion that Macca is not the only one that could do it like it is a fact. Also try not to read too much into to post just for the sake of trying to start an agrument or debate to get your opinions across and degrade the previous poster.

I know it's all been said, but the amount of charisma/stamina/showmanship he has at age 69 is just unreal. The main set was 2.5 hours and there were literally no breaks to get a drink of water or cool down or anything like that, and the temp was in the upper 80's even at the end of the show. Add on two more encores and it was pretty much 3 hours. Plus his voice doesn't sound like it's lost a step whatsoever.
I know there's people who'd rather see modern/in their prime bands get headlining spots and that's cool, but I'd love to see him as #1 on the bill next year so I can be up close and not way up in the nose bleeds like last night. Either way I'm just glad I got a chance to see him at all. With how much he's toured recently you wouldn't think he's going to up and stop any time soon, but you never know.
The problem is, you're making opinion based statements like "they reshaped popular music as we know it," and "Paul McCartney might have the best catalog of music" and acting as if they're factual in nature. Also, for some reason when discussing "classic" bands like the Beatles, Stones, etc. it seems perfectly acceptable to mention how many hits they have, how popular they were/are, but when that argument is applied to any modern band, it is quickly dismissed as foolish, and the one making the argument usually gets heat for being a "custie" or "mainstream" or whatever the f*ck.
All I'm saying is, you're stating opinions and representing them as facts.
For instance, I'd rather see a 37 song set from My Morning Jacket, or Radiohead, or Wilco, or Jay-Z. So to me, yes, there are bands that I think could put on a much better 37 song setlist.
Now, if you're speaking in terms of who COULD put on a setlist with 37 songs (with the emphasis being that most bands don't play shows that are that long and also contain so many songs), then maybe you're right. Maybe Paul McCartney is the only person presently touring on the planet who could actually get up there and play 37 songs in a row, because nobody else attempts it. If that's your argument, then fine. Otherwise, please see above.
10 number 1 albums in a row, who better than me? only the Beatles nobody ahead of me, I crush Elvis in his blue suede shoes, Made the rolling stones seem sweet as coolaid 2
Reminder - Jay-Z
I think he just reminded us that the Beatles are kinda important.
We disagree on this and that fine but Juggs you thinking something is right or wrong does not make it so. You are the only one on the board that would have responded to my first post about the setlist like that. You try to call people out for no reason so you can look cool on the board. It is not like I have said anything on this topic that outrageous. You just feel the need to dissect peoples post into your context instead of theirs.

No I was abotu to call you out too but Juggs beat me to it.
He has a point. You can claim that you like The Beatles, that's fine, but you also have to STATE YOUR OPINIONS AS OPINIONS and don't get mad when someone calls you out.

I don't mind if someone would have simply disagreed. For example if someone would have said: "I think so and so could put a setlist like that together. They had a lot hits an good stuff. I wouldnt say Paul is the only one but he is one of few." Instead of "I don't know where to start with this". And try to start an argument over a simple little post that stated no outrageous claims. From now on does everyone have to say this is my opinion or this is a fact?
Just like when I started the Top 5 Bands 2000-present thread. Look at the title, not that hard to figure out. Then both of come along together again. "do you mean Roo artist, anybody in that time period, do we consider live shows, etc.. Specify yourself so we can understand." How about just read the title.

Thanks! I think it will go over really well. (You can use "I think" instead of stating the option at the end of each statement. Opinion is implied with "I think".)
Too troublesome. Plus what would yall respond to then? Yall wouldn't have any post to completely dissect for no reason instead of thinking to yourself "I know what he/she means" and leaving it at that.

Wait who are people trying to claim has a better, more consistent discog? I mean Stones peak>Beatles peak but c'mon no one can claim better and more consistent

Haha, no. My point is that no everyone loves the Beatles. I personally think they are OK but not great/holy/end-all-be-all the best group ever. But that's purely my opinion.
On topic, I've seen Macca. It was a great show. He would have a great show at Roo. But I bet there are 50 other artists that would have a great show at Roo, too.
And that's all I will say on it. I will stay out of Beatle-loving threads from now on

Neither. I posted about the setlist that jetlag posted on the previous page and the rest is history.
