I'm gonna get flamed for this I know. But does anyone else not like Jack White? I mean, he's a great songwriter, but his live guitar playing makes me cringe... Or did I just catch him on a bad day (Roo '08) and watch bad vids on Youtube? I want to like him, but I just don't.

Some people do dislike him. A lot of people are annoyed with the god-like status some give him.
I have loved White Stripes and Raconteurs....really dig Dead Weather but like the other 2 more. I'm also a big fan of everything he's doing at Third Man Records so that makes me like him more.

If you can watch these videos and dislike Jack and his guitar playing then you probably just aren't into him and should move on. There's nothing wrong with that.....different stroke for different folks.
The good news hidden in all of this is that Jack played a White Stripes song. Knowing his mindset, I was a little afraid he was going to set all of the White Stripes songs aside forever and never play them again. Very happy that he seems willing to play them still.

Yeah when I saw he showed up at SXSW with the Record Store bus I pretty much figured its a lock for Roo. The Bonnaroo mention pretty much confirms it. I would be shocked if hes not there

Part of what makes a truly great guitarist great is having a unique style that sets him/her apart from all his peers and makes him more than just a talented instrumentalist. A side effect of this is that while some will love this person and their music dearly, some just won't get the appeal.
I think this is what sets Jack White apart from his contemporaries. John Mayer, for instance, comes to mind - a *very* talented guitarist (I would say more talented than JW) but also a less creative guitarist and someone who doesn't have quite the same level of 'style' when it comes to playing. It's pretty hard to define what I'm talking about. They both draw heavily on old blues-rock. But while John Mayer is more technically proficient, Jack White is better at playing a music that (as much as it draws on old school blues) is at the end of the day no one's but his.
I guess my thing with him is he's got the Jimmy Page syndrome. He makes too many mistakes, which throws me off. So, I guess my biggest issue is that I like guitarists like Joe Satriani and John Frusciante, who, even if they make a mistake, they blend it right in, so that it's difficult or impossible to tell there was a mistake at all. JW seems to notice he made a mistake and the song suffers for it.
But, to each his own. I would kill puppies to see JF there. Okay, maybe not, but I'd love it.

You are not alone.
Wise man hide karma before insult JW on Roo board.

White told me in an interview while sitting in the Rolling Record Store's black leather front seats, he plans to take the store to festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo, as well as county fairs and car shows, after its SXSW debut- via pitchfork

You should commit the opinions of Pitchfork/Rolling Stone to memory before posting here.
