Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
David Gilmour's been mentioned. Dark Side of the Moon was somewhat inspired by Syd Barrett's drug-induced demise. Plus, the moon, in space, is only speckled on the light side. The speckles disappear on the dark side. If Waters isn't gonna be there due to European tours, he's shed. "Ticking away the *moments* that make up a dull day."
How to solve Roo clues: 1. Think of your dream band to play Roo. 2. Make up a way, no matter how improbable, that the clue applies to them. 3. Announce your conclusion as fact.
Let me demonstrate: A trip to space thwarted by a speckled lad's demise. A watershed moment otherwise.
Clearly that's Led Zeppelin. Their greatest hits LP shows them as astronauts. They're Englsh and, when they were younger were referred to as "lads." One of them, John Bonham, died (hence the demise). As a child, Bonham probably had freckles or chicken pox or a mole or something that would make it apprpriate to refer to him as speckled. A watershed moment otherwise refers to When the Levee Breaks.
There you go. Clue solved.
Using the same very scientific formula, I have indeed solved it. Rick Astley's meteoric rise to fame was thwarted by the fact that he's so lame. His watershed moment is any time anyone gets rickrolled. We all get to look forward to hearing the only song he ever wrote or performed or bothered to read the lyrics to, "Never Gonna Give You Up", for 3 1/2 hours Saturday Night on the What Stage. /thread
Actually I think it's Atmosphere.

...where did you ever get THAT idea, babe? Hehehe...
*Warning - do NOT tell your sig. other your ideas....keep em secret - keep em safe*
Anyway - I haven't really read up on here, and decided beforehand that my guesses are Atmosphere or Cold War Kids. Getting WAY out there though, Mark Huckwell from Simply Red (who is also a Ginger dude, red-head, whatev.) called it quits and ended Simply Red's career within the past couple of years. He since has filled in for Rod Stewart with the Faces. They have been performing festivals, and apparently plan to tour US and play festies here in 2011. It's a far reach, but an idea nonetheless.
I was talking the clues over with my mother, who's a pretty sharp lady. She brought up the point that Ken Mattingly never actually got the measles. They kept him out of the mission because they were scared that he might get them, but they never actually developed. So I doubt that this clue is referring to the apollo mission at all.

Crass? They used to be called 'Stormtrooper' (Star Wars/Space..etc.), and renamed themselved Crass as a reference to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust; the line 'the kids was just crass.' Hehe, I would like this a lot!
They are touring.....fishingmaniac would love this too!
Bowie makes sense. If you look at the clue in terms of discography all of Bowie's major tom stuff came out in 1969 to accompany the moon landing. About three years later, Bowie turned to Ziggy Stardust, The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust to be exact (which constitutes a "demise"), abandoning his previous "space mission". This was a huge turning point in Bowie's career ("watershed moment") considering this is when the "cult of Bowie" really started. Boom.
plus ziggy sucked up into his mind "like a leper messiah"....speckled?!?!
We've hit a clue wall. Unless Katie gets the okay to provide some direction we're awaiting either fresh eyes or the line up. We might be able to solve both of these with a pool of 100 answers. Maybe.
(Then again, I'm still certain that a clue from 2009 refered to Peter, Bjorn and John and not Snoop Dogg. I don't care that he performed and they didn't.)
"Like water off a duck's back," is a popular saying. The movie, "The Mighty Ducks," is the story of a man who lost the big game as a lad. The movie uses as a theme song, Queen's "We Will Rock You," written by Brian May who is also a noted astrophysicist.
from Twitter just a minute ago...... garychardonnay Gary Chardonnay I'll tell you this, I still haven't seen a correct answer. RT higgyson: garychardonnay Could we get any comments on clue #1?
Hey guys, so this GaryChardonnay just entered the boards and he's been confirmed by AC as our savior for clues. He gave a small hint to clue #2, and I just tweeted him about Clue #1 to see if he had any thoughts on that and here's what he said.

I mentioned Eminem as well.... but absolutely no one decided that it was even a clue worth noting. (When it really should be... I have some good logic with that one)

I really don't think the answer to this clue is any of the following: U2, REM, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Daft Punk, Pink Floyd (or any members), or David Bowie
I just don't think they'd give out a headliner in the first clue but crazier things have happened.

I agree, just compiling a list of bands we named and can presumably throw away for the clue since he said he hasn't seen the right answer.
1. A trip to space - means exactly what it says 2. A trip to space thwarted - a space mission that failed or didn't accomplish what it set out to do - most obvious that come to mind for me are Apollo 13 and the Challenger 3. Thwarted by a speckled lad's demise - has to refer to JFK because he set out to put Americans on the moon with the Apollo space program and had freckles (speckled) as a kid (lad)
Natedogg is on the right track, but takes a wrong turn in part 3.

Blah. On the one hand it sucks to be back at square one, but on the plus side ruling out all those acts is definitely something concrete.
My feeling at this point is that we need something completely different from any of the trains of thought we've been playing with so far. But I have no clue what that might be!
Apollo 1 was the aborted mission because of a fire that killed three astronauts. Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Edward H. White II, Roger B. Chaffee. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes possibly?

Yeah, kinda hard to figure out where to go from here...
Was it mentioned that Mattingly was played by Gary Sinise in the movie Apollo 13? My bad if it has, I lost track on everything we said after about the 30th page...

First clue = me
sorry ive been holding out on everybody, but AC/Superfly told me to keep it secret. ill be LN on which Friday after Talking Heads
Ken Mattingly was exposed the the measled by Charles Duke, this cost ken mattingly his seat on the Odyssey (Apollo 13 Command Service Module name), but he did get to fly to the moon on Apollo 16, with the man that cost him his seat on Odyssey, Charles Duke. As a joke, Ken Mattingly put a sticker that read "Typhoid Mary" under Charles Dukes seat on the Apollo 16.
Just putting that out there, maybe it means more to someone else. I am gonna refresh my knowledge on apollo 1 and 2 and I will post some ideas soon
^So, should we be following the history behind the Challenger? Or something else NASA-related?
Jean Michel Jarre was commissioned by NASA to write and conduct a piece of music with Astronaut Ron McNair simulcasted playing saxophone from space. McNair died during the launch accident. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Michel_Jarre#Rendez-Vous
Kirk Whalum was McNair's replacement for saxophone in performance of the piece, "Rendez-Vous."
