Anyone who was there for their 2009 show knows........this band is legit. They rocked the tent on Thursday and this year I'm hoping they get a late night set. Probably like MGMT had in 2009.
My favorite band, and honestly THE best shows i have ever been to. Ive seen them 5 times and its always different. Little jams during songs, transitions in and out of songs.
I hope they get a late night, it would probably be my favorite set of the weekend

I can't wait to see Portugal. The Man again. 'Roo '09 was awesome. I hadn't heard of them before 'Roo and kind of just stumbled upon the show. A definite see this year.

caught part of their set in '09, knowing nothing about them. got into them thanks to your avatar on here. super stoked about being able to see them this year.
Yeah they're sound may have changed a bit, like ITM said, gotten a little softer but they still play with so much energy. I was kind of into them after just listening to album stuff, but caught them opening for Minus the Bear and instantly fell in love.

dude, same exact thing here, same tour. i remember distinctly turning to my girl at the time after the first song and telling her 'im in love (with the band)' haha. i sorta listened to them too much for a couple years and burned myself out, but pysched for a set at roo.
I LOVE the final track on American Ghetto. I wasn't that into it at first, but realized i wasn't really into any of their albums at first. They have just a little bit different/weird sound to them (in the best way possible) that sort of took me a few tries to get used to. I kind of always knew they were good, i just needed to give them a few listens.

But yeah, i was going for minus the bear. I had only just barley heard of portugal and thought it was pretty good. I showed up only for the last like 3,4 songs of their set, heard them playing the outro to elephants right when i got in, and then pretty much knew this was going to be my favorite band.
About a year and a half ago i saw them in brooklyn, it was probably the best show ive ever seen by anybody
What CD would you guys recommend starting out with to get into them? I remember seeing them from the back in 09 and liked their sound. Would like to go in this year knowing a good bit of their material. Thanks!

They'll play a bunch of songs from Satanic Satanist, American Ghetto, and Censored colors so get those.
They do mix in some of the older albums too. Personally, the songs "Church Mouth" and "Horse Warming Party" are some of my favorites from the first albums that they play.
