What CD would you guys recommend starting out with to get into them? I remember seeing them from the back in 09 and liked their sound. Would like to go in this year knowing a good bit of their material. Thanks!
Really listen to everything. Everytime ive seen them (like 5 times now) they play a good mix from all their albums, 3 or so songs from each.

Seeing them at my first Roo, on thursday, pretty much set the tone for Bonnaroo forever, for me. I can't wait to see them on the farm again. Afternoon, evening, latenight, stage, tent; it doesn't matter, I'll be there and it will be awesome.

This band is so sick live. I didn't really get their album stuff until I saw them at Roo 09. It was like a bomb went off in my brain and I've been obsessed ever since. When they busted out Moonage Daydream at their show last Spring I lost my effing mind. Not to mention the Kinks cover at the end of the set.
PS. I've seen them 5 times and have yet to see them play the song "Colors" from the Censored Colors album. I'm really hoping for it this time around. That will make the whole weekend for me

Colors is great. Haven't seen it live either. We should try e-mailing the band and requesting it. If enough people do it they'll play it probably. They personally respond to their e-mails (at least the ones I've sent in the past) so I think this could work.

when they played 930 club last year, john did 'created' by himself, my fav off of Censored Colors. he said he had only done it once or twice before. he actually couldn't finish it at first cause he was gettin all choked up. it was quite a moment. i hope to hear that song, chicago, bellies are full, and mornings.
Due to the 8 hours I had to sit in line I only got to see the final half of their show in 09, but it was one of my favorite experiences on a Thursday night at Roo.
I LOVE the final track on American Ghetto. I wasn't that into it at first, but realized i wasn't really into any of their albums at first. They have just a little bit different/weird sound to them (in the best way possible) that sort of took me a few tries to get used to. I kind of always knew they were good, i just needed to give them a few listens.
dude, same exact thing here, same tour. i remember distinctly turning to my girl at the time after the first song and telling her 'im in love (with the band)' haha. i sorta listened to them too much for a couple years and burned myself out, but pysched for a set at roo.
But yeah, i was going for minus the bear. I had only just barley heard of portugal and thought it was pretty good. I showed up only for the last like 3,4 songs of their set, heard them playing the outro to elephants right when i got in, and then pretty much knew this was going to be my favorite band.
About a year and a half ago i saw them in brooklyn, it was probably the best show ive ever seen by anybody
Really stoked to see these guys after watching this.

Here's a tweet from PTM the other day:
Putting together a new set list for the coming tours and new album. New jams. New stuff. Satanic stuff. Some Ghetto shit. 21 Feb Favorite Retweet Reply
It sounds like now is the time to flood them with requests. They are figuring out their festival sets now.

I know its old, but after like 5 shows over 3 years ive only heard Elephants once, and it was only the outro. I can see them opening a lot of sets with The Dead Dog or some variation. I really would love to see them play When The War Ends too.
American Ghetto leaves open a lot of jam opportunities, I'm excited to see what they do.
