Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I'm sorry to clog up the forum with another Springsteen topic, but I thought some people who don't want to read through the discussions us fans have might find this interesting...
Below are the setlist statistics for the current tour. There are two more shows in New Jersey to complete the North American leg and then the band heads to Europe for a few weeks before coming back to Bonnaroo. As you can see, there have been almost 100 different songs played so far and that this tour Bruce has really gotten into playing covers.
I take no credit for making this, but it will update automatically when the person who is keeping it up-to-date changes it on the original website (how cool is that?!).
"Blinded by the Light" (yes, Springsteen wrote this song) won the vote on the other thread for the request sign and it was just pulled out for the first time a few nights ago.
I realize that this list can seem quite daunting, so I thought I'd recommend a few songs to get you started. Unfortunately these songs don't do much to show the diversity in his music, but they are the "warhorses." I can almost guarantee that all four of these will be played, so even for those that really aren't that interested, at least you can check a few of these out and now be totally lost (click on the words to link to videos and the lyrics):
I also presume that we will get one of these and perhaps even both. Though to the annoyance of casual fans, the above songs are much more likely to be played than these. I'm sure that people know these songs, but Dancing in the Dark isn't nearly as "cheesy" as it sounds on record with the way he plays it today. Also, watch the Glory Days video (particularly the end) to see why we want the ramps to be added to the stage for his set.
As for Born in the USA... it hasn't been a staple on a tour since The Rising Tour back in 2002-2003. I believe it was only played three times over 100 dates on the last tour and obviously has yet to be played on this tour. I would never say that there is no way he will play it, but I think that if it doesn't come out over the next few weeks in Europe where most of the shows are going to be outdoors and in stadiums (including one festival), then the likelihood of him playing it at Bonnaroo isn't very good. I'm not really sure why he doesn't throw it in there more often, but maybe the strain it puts on his voice is even worse than what is apparent when you hear him sing it.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Hard to believe, imo, that Because The Night,Ramrod,Prove It,and Cadillac (among others),have been played so little,so far.All would seem to be excellent candidates for a 'Roo show...
No Atlantic City or The River played so far makes me . I wish Bruce would stop playing crappy covers like Twist and Shout & Mony Mony and play more of his classic material.

I wish he'd play both!! I'd rather him keep the covers in and remove or at least switch up some of the songs he keeps playing (Lonesome Day, Waitin' on a Sunny Day, Radio Nowhere - though Jay makes this song come alive, etc.). They all are fine songs, but not good enough to make an appearance at most all of the shows.
I have to admit that I have more fun at a show when the crowd is into it, and the covers definitely accomplish this goal. Though he could probably accomplish the same goal by playing a greater number of his "hits" on a nightly basis.
As far as his playing of the "hits" is concerned, I really wonder if Bruce has a true sense of the songs the most casual of fans are going to know. For example, ask any fan to name the two songs that will never come out of the setlist and most will say "Born to Run" and "Badlands." Now, I love "Badlands" and agree that it belongs in the setlist on a nightly basis, but it isn't a song that the casual fans who only know what is played on the radio are going to know. Heck, most of my friends don't even know "Born to Run."
My dream would be for Morello to make a guest appearance and play The Ghost of Tom Joad and then they also play Because the Night and give Nils a chance to "melt some people's faces" (is that the correct use of that phrase????)
Haha yeah you got the phrase right. Ive been paying attention to set lists this tour and Ive never really followed them in the past but from what ive seen it seems like he mixed it up more in the past then he has this tour. I noticed that almost every show he has the Seeds, Johnny 99, Ghost of Tom Joad combo. I wish that he would rotate those 3 slots a little more as much as I like all 3 of those songs.
At the end of the day Im not really concerned with the setlist because this will be my first time seeing Bruce. Im just glad that he isnt playing much off of Magic or WOAD because those two albums arnt very good imo.
I noticed that 'Born in the USA' isn't on the list. Does he not play that anymore?
I saw him play an acoustic version of it on either the reunion tour or rising tour in jersey. To be honest, I could have gone without that one. He doesn't play it much at all. It was big when it came out because of everything with the Vietnam war.
I'm surprised he isn't playing Because the Night more often...would love it at Roo. Roo also requires Kitty's Back imo.
He is scheduled 9:30-12:30 sat night...we really don't need to worry about the set list. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he played over 3 hours. There will always be a song or two that you hear that you don't particularly care for but it could be a favorite of someone else in the crowd. He does a good job of mixing the old with the new and he always brings the energy.

I wish he would rotate those as well and substitute Youngstown or Because the Night for those songs more often.
I'm glad he isnt playing from those albums either.

See I can go either way with this. While I love to see Atlantic City or any of the older stuff I'd die at the chance to see 96 Tears,London Calling or I Wanna Be Sedated. I'm just gonna be happy with whatever he plays.

The real cool thing will be the song(s) he whips out that he hasn't played anywhere yet.
.... by the way, will max weinberg be back on tour by bonnaroo time? i heard his son is currently playing on tour, so max can be in LA for the new tonight show with conan.

The River is my favorite song by him. The lyrics remind me of several life changing summers while I was growing up.
"But I remember us riding in my brother's car Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir At night on them banks I'd lie awake And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take Now those memories come back to haunt me"
He's playing for about an hour longer at roo than he does on this tour. I saw him here in Houston and he played for about 2 and a half hours including encores. The Roo schedule has him playing 3 and a half hours, so i'm sure we're going to get some good tunes. BRING SIGNS IF THERES A BRUCE SONG YOU WANT TO HEAR, cause he does the whole grab signs from the audience thing at his shows. I plan on making a "lost in the flood" banner, but i'm thinking it might be a waste of time cause he probably wont play it =(
Garth Algar: Do you ever get the feeling Benjamin's just using us?
Wayne Campbell: Good call. It's like he wants us to be liked by everyone. I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.
And if theres one thing Bruce is amazing at, its getting a feel for the audience and switching up the set list on the spot. So I def expect to hear some older, more "jammy" type songs like Kittys back, incident on 57th street, MAYBE thundercrack, or the e-street shuffle.
He hardly plays ANYTHING off of "the wild, the innocent", with Rosalita really being the only staple so i'm hopefully not getting ahead of myself by thinking he'd play his most bonnaroo friendly album.

Haven't noticed you posting in the Bruce threads before, always nice to hear from other fans.Since you love The River, you've probably seen this before. But even so,it's a clip I particularly enjoy because I remember how excited I was when I first saw clips from the movie.
