What are some of his better albums? I don't know too much about him but everyone I ask has incredible things to say so I should probably investigate...

This is very true, at least when it comes to rapping. Talib has much better flow, better lyrics, and a very distinct style. I have a feeling he'll be late night, and I will sadly have to miss him due to a conflict with either Superjam or Robert Randolph. I hope I'm wrong tho.
He is the only hip-hop artist I have interest in seeing this year. I have never been to a rap show so I am hoping he doesn't conflict with anyone good.

Well... I've been checking out "Ear Drum" and it's pretty good so far.
Zdlr, rap shows can be a whole lot of fun if the performer does it right. If you've never been you might want to consider putting a little bit higher priority on them at the Roo, only because it's probably less likely you'll spend the dough to see them at one of their shows. That's how I do it, atleast.
But I do agree sometimes the conflicts are just too good to pass up (ie. JPJ/Harper/?uestlove vs Aesop Rock )
Kanye sucks Talibs nut. Kanye is better at pleasing the masses (cant really say much is to be said for that. i understand he has worked hard for it but it's what he worked hard for that pisses me off. and his arrogance..). I saw Talib at Rock the Bells in Atl in August and he was great. Go see him and dont go see Kanye. Show Superfly what theyve done

You should check out Ozomatli. Not straight up hip hop but theyve definitely got the influence in there somewhere.
He was brutal when he opened for the B Boys in Philly. I don't know if he just had an off night, wasn't feeling the crowd, or what, but man... BAAAD. I'm def up for giving him a second chance. The guy's got skill.
I agree with that... I saw Kanye when he just broke into the scene a while back. He actually wasn't that bad. The best hip hop/rap that I've seen live was from The Beastie Boys/Mix Master Mike.
PE were "entertaining" but mainly cause Flav just messed EVERYTHING up from the second they came on stage until they left...and he didn't....he stayed out there cursing out his own band....hilarious...but not musically good at all.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

Talib is really the only hip hop artist i see myself catching this year. From what i've seen from videos he looks better live, which as has been said, is a rarity.

At Vegoose? Hmm... lol I guess I had more to drink that day than I thought!
Seeing Chuck D in person would have blown my mind. I know I'm a really white dude, but Chuck is one of my favorite songwriters and vocalists in any genre of music...and P.E. is my favorite rap artist.
The Beautiful Struggle by Talib is one of the top three hip hop albums of all time. I am against the hating on Kanye though...The College Dropout is also in the top 3...Everyone knows deep down that West will put on a GREAT show whether you like his music or not....

No...this was in New York at Rock Tha Bells (2nd day I think...I went to both)...it was funny as hell but kinda sad...the whole band left, and Flav was out there begging them to come back...they didn't...eventually his mic was cut, and people had to come out and kinda drag him off....
Edit: I'm sure it was the second day...the first day I got hammered, and don't think PE was even there....the second day I was hungover and miserable...and remember laughing at them being kinda the only bright spot of the day pre-Rage.

I have to agree with those saying that hip hop doesn't translate live very well. The only time I was entertained and didn't get bored at a hip hop show was with Cypress Hill at Echo Project and I don't even listen to them. I've seen Blackalicious, Deltron, Common, and GZA live and wasn't impressed with any of them. The only hip hop show I could see myself going to at Bonnaroo at this point would be MF DOOM and/or Madlib...and from what I hear I'd likely leave disappointed from that as well.
I don't know how you dudes can't get into live hip hop. It's certainly pretty damn hit or miss, but my favorite shows ever have been hip hop and electronic. If the sound is good (a big problem, often) and the performer is proven, you really can't go wrong IMO.
