I think I posted this somewhere else, but I just don't get Kweli. I like a lot of different types of rap and hip-hop: old-school, gangsta, underground, "concious", mainstream, commercial etc. I consistently find Kweli to be bland and uninteresting. His voice, style, lyrics, beats: none of them stand out. Anything he collabs on from Blackstar to the Chappelle movie, I find him to be the least interesting part.
Anyway, I'm not just here to hate (I will probably check out his set just based on his reputation and feel like I should like him based on how I see him discussed). I've listened to plenty of his music (I do love Blackstar for Mos, I have Quality, Ear Drum and I think a Hi-Tek collab?) and have several albums on my computer, but who can recommend me some of their favorite tracks to change my mind?
I feel about My Morning Jacket the way you do about Kweli, and that's after having seen them 6 or 7 times in concert at various fests, a bar in Louisville, and opening for Bob Dylan.
As for Talib, I would like to see him but I feel like it's going to end up being Lupe and Talib in a latenight tent and I just know the conflicts will be terrible.
Every Kweli album is strong but I think Quality is his best personally. Im not gonna lie, "Get By" is what got me listening to Kweli's solo stuff (which coincidently was one of if not THE first hit produced by Kanye). On a side note, how amazing would it be if they took the concept of Dave Chappelle's Block Party and made it into a tour? Even if Fugees werent in, it would be the most amazing hip hop tour of all time. I hope that Blackstar is added on Thursday for sure. Common has a new album coming out so I think we may get him added. As long as we don't get Lyrics Born. His show was hands down the worst hip hop show Ive ever seen and Ive seen basically everyone...literally. His whole show was callback type stuff with the "When I say (blank) you say (blank)" stuff. I personally think he's crap. Bone Thugs would be a fantastic add too.
