Ok I will put this out there for us all to think and comment about … don’t know if you follow other festivals but you should check out the Coachella board and all the talk about rage against the machine …. There is a lot of heated discussion how ratm made no difference in the fest this year, to, this is by far the worst Coachella ever, all because of rage and their metal fans … a number of people said that they wonder if “we” will have the same problem with Tool at the roo … so what does the board think … will Tool make this the worst bonnaroo ever, will they maybe make it the best roo ever, or are they just another band with some fans that are a little on the wild side …. Uh-oh. This thread is going to get blown up.
My 2 cents. No. Bonnaroo and Coachella are 2 very different festivals. Maybe you'll see a mosh pit or 2 pop up during their set, but its not like they're Anthrax. We're not going to have 90k doing a circle pit.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

No, I don't think it will be a problem. Coachella is not Bonnaroo. Roo is not an hour drive from L.A. Roo is more of a commitment (Time and $) than Coachella. It is not as easy for a truckload of metal heads to cruse over to Roo just to see Tool and start trouble.
Also. What specific problems are you referring to. I didn’t make it to Indio this year, but friends who did told me the redone sound systems (which caused bleed-over between all the stages) and a lackluster performance by Rage were he biggest let-downs this year.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
This is what people were saying about Radiohead last year and DMB the year before and so on and so forth. Unless they get Cradle of Filth or Toby Keith to headline, I don't think Bonnaroo will ever be ruined by a few fans of one band. Bonnaroo is bigger than that.
I doubt you will see a mosh pit pop up - I think someone else may have mentioned it - but Maynard will ask them to stop.
stuckinutero said it best - Coachella and Bonnaroo are two different festivals. I was amazed when I looked at pictures from Coachella this year. Everyone is dressed so nice and they are so clean, even their campsites are nice grass, flat with chalk outlines to show them where they should camp.
I just don't see things being any different then they were last year - alot of Radiohead's fans are way different then your typical "jamband" crowd also - and there was no problem. Not all Toolheads are screaming, raging idiots. (me for example - I am pretty laidback and like all music - but LOVE Tool)
It's not like Tool's just playing at Bonnaroo, they're playing everywhere else. I don't get why people think this and I'm tired of it. It's been discussed sooooooooooooo much on here and the general concensus at the end of the day is the same: No.
Besides, if a stereotypical metal head (just using a general example here) wanted to see Tool, saw that they were playing at Bonnaroo, they would look it up. Then, they would see the many many other bands that are playing: White Stripes, Wilco, Widespread, Ben Harper, Police. "Woah dude, these are a bunch of p*ssy bands, what a bunch of p*ssies, I don't wanna go to that sh*t. F*ckin gay, bro, f*g farm, for sure!" I don't think we'll find any of those fictional @ssholes there, if you know what I mean.

that is one reason i actually brought it up ... i have been to coachella two times and compaired to the roo, it is like disneyland ... where you camp is the polo fields of nice plush grass all trimed .. you get all the so kali people dressed to the max ... but it was different this year ... so i guess time will tell .. actually here is my comment about coachella and i think there is some truth to it ...
Let me put my slant on this and then you can tell me to f off …. Maybe it is just the times we are in … I saw ratm a number of times, back in the day when they were even more radical … tool also, and I am going to catch them next month at the roo … I don’t expect any trouble, but then bonnaroo is totally different then Coachella .. it may not be so much metal heads/tool/ratm people as I said but the climate of America now … we have not been this divided as a people since the late 60’s … people are on edge because of the war … it’s a total us vs. them attitude now, and if you don’t agree with “us” then it’s a fight …. The laze faire attitude of the last 15 years is giving way to the radical thoughts and actions of some of the people … I am not even saying that is bad, but it is more pervasive then it has been in a generation … (I was at the riots of ws99 but I consider that an aberration because of the heat and the location) .. so just a thought .. cr***** lets hope i am wrong about the "climate change"

If you think about it the difference between rage and tool are huge. I would not consider tool metal or heavy rock anymore, they are considered progressive psych rock, which would fit for a fest such as roo. There will be no moshing, no pushing, but there will be a lot of hippies with their heads exploding from the mixture of other substances and the music. I do not think there will be any problems with Tool, and by the way Radiohead was a huge hit last year and there were questions about the "crowd" they would bring with them.

guess that is all opinion ... i was talking with a friend of mine here at work, and he said the last tool show he saw a few months ago here "had the biggest bunch of redneck yahoo's" then any show he has been to in a long while ... and he is i guess 28 , married, with two kids and he goes to at least 5 shows a month ..cr***
There's a GWAR show scheduled in Louisville early August to be held at the old Waverly Sanitarium. I can't wait to see that one - the vibe will be insane!

Well how many rednecks would want to go to a supposed "hippie fest" (that is what my gf and a few friends call Roo). Like stated earlier they would be scared off by the vibe of roo and tool will do a more cerberal, mind expanding set than there regular tour sets. Also if those a$$holes are there to cause a stir, I promise you 30 hippies can take care of a redneck or two. They do not want their vibe messed with especially if they are in an altered state. Tool will kill, promise you on that.

LOL this conversation was had here months before Tool was even announced. And no Tool will not ruin Roo - I'm not sure any one band could ruin it - unless you let it.
Tool will have a huge amount of new fans after June this year imo.

Yeah I think everyone in the crowd will be in a trance during this show. Also you will see a lot Tool non believers change their tune after seeing them live I suspect.
