ok. 1. i don't see how tool could ruin anything. 2. it's hard for me to believe that one band can ruin an entire four day festival. As for tool fans i am one and we're no different from any other fan. i don;t we're about the rage and hatred for submission undr one control like most ppl think. i think most tool fans are about understanding the depth of many things, both simple and complicated. 3. i may disagree with the fact that tool and rage are entirely different. they did record a song together called "revolution", so they've worked together and seen eye to eye on some things. but who's to say rage even ruined coachella. everyone's entitled to their opinion. their will be ppl complaining. even if i wasn't there i can't believe rage ruined coachella. i think ppl who are pessimistic about tool playing will be impressed.

I personally think that most of the hardcore "overly aggressive" types that may have been interested in Roo will be staying home this year. Instead of going through the trouble and expense of attending at fest like this, they are probably going think that Tool has "sold out" and stay away. If someone is a "rowdy, hippe-hating trouble maker", they're more likely to see this as a strike against Tool than they are to drive across the country to see a festival that's being headlined by The Police. Even if some undesirable folks do show up, hopefully our mellow vibe will rub off on them. Or at least, They'll quickly see how grossly out numbered they are and be on their best behavior. I don't hink it's really going to be an issue. Granted, I could be wrong but, alot of people last year thought that Radiohead fans were going to start fights, set fires and rape people.....and that did not happen! Not even close! Last year was great!

oh i am most assured looking foward to the show ... bit of a disagreement though about "fans being the same, if someone asked you, what does a typical katy lang and indigo girls fan look like, dont you think a "typical type" would come to mind .. not that i mind any "typicals" but there are reasons these thoughts come to mind ... its gonna be a great show, and for me the police and tool are the reasons .. cr****

when i first heard about bonnaroo i was told it was a bunch of diverse music and a bunch of diverse people . and anyway not all tool fans are tools some may be assholes but there alot of people on the jamband scene that are complete assholes too so tool will not ruin roo when fall out boy and good charlotte show up it will be ruined but even then you dont have to go to there sets easy as that. I say bring gwar and rage against the machine to roo if i could see them sci, keller, ween, ben harper, flaming lips, xavier rudd, sts9, white stripes, regina spektor, and the roots all in one weekend i could die happy.
The point of this was???? Maynard tried to get them to back up and the article goes on to say that it happened at the same festival for AFI (of all bands)
Not to get off topic or contradict what you've said (I heart you guys, Megan AN Boz), but you probably don't know what kind of band AFI was before their major label metamorphosis. They had like five albums before that, and they were one of the most hardcore punk bands around (without descending into straight-up hardcore, as opposed to hardcore punk...seriously, there's a difference). I'm sure the trampling happened after they turned soft, but think about all those 16 year old girls that had to see them then! That's worse than a bunch of 16 year old punks.
Yes, there will be a *few* sterotypical tool fans in black baseball caps turned backwards and wearing armbands and calling everyone "bra" while they walk in groups with their high school pre-frat brother buddies... but honestly, I don't think they will have much of a dent in the atmosphere at Bonnaroo. I do like Tool - especially their psychedelic rock vibe... not so big on screaming and bumping into people - I'm excited about their show, should be fun.
The hell are you talking about? I've never seen one Tool fan like this. Tool = mind expansion, not fist expansion.

I think a lot of people will be suprised when Tool starts playing. The majority of the audience will be in a psychededlic trance (If they aren't already) by the second or third song.
Yeah, I've known some dumb people that like Tool, but I've never known a Tool fan (devoted enough to plop down $200) who was a meathead trying to start fights. I've known people that are ready to fight, and they like Tool, but when you get around that many people and everyone's so chilled out and friendly, you really have to be a serious weirdo to want to start trouble.

Thats exactly what I mean. Thats what a Tool show is like. Not a bunch of moshing. If anything people are more chilled out than for say...Flips or String Cheese because they're just so struck in awe.
i think what is funny is: on this thread people are saying, oh no, cr is making some sort of stereotype of rage fans ... no, i just said they have some hard core fans ... then you go to another thread, and they are talking about "the worst thing you have seen at the roo" and go on to talk about wookies ... hummm now what is a wookie, could you clue me in, maybe there is a type of person that looks and acts like a wookie, opps, no that would be a stereotype, that would be wrong i say lighten up ... cr****

im not sure if you mean me. i never accused you of stereotyping anyones fans. but i did post a couple of minutes ago about some wookies on the worst thing at roo thread. but i specified sketchy wookies and lot kids. just like there are sketchy anythings. i in no way implied that all wookies are sketchy or bad. but there are wookies that are sketchy and bad. i dont base it on their wookieness but on thier behavior. i love wookies. and if i could stand long hair in the heat id likely be considered one.

I think the general concensus is that Tool isn't gonna ruin Bonnaroo. I don't think anyone here's trying to pre-judge, either. Dude doesn't mean it, he just has a direct way of speaking (or typing).
i mean everything i say. except when im wrong. i didnt mean that stuff. i remember this one time, i hated on radiohead and got everyone all riled up. i didnt even mean that stuff. radiohead melted my face and all was well in the world!! ;D you guys should chill

only a single band on the lineup would ruin my bonnaroo.. so im not going to see that band
ps (and no, rage did not ruin coachella..
pss (the nightwatchman was one of the best shows all weekend expecially when perry ferrall and boots riley (from the coup) came out to play the last song, a litty ditty called This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie ;D )
DO NOT MISS THE NIGHTWATCHMAN it WILL BE THE SHOW OF THE WEEKEND
in the end im sure it will be great. in my opinion tool would have been a better fit for a latenight. to me they just dont seem to be big enough for the headliner. seems like superfly just trying to pull in a new crowd. depending on the latenights alot of people will probably skip tool and get a spot for those. or just chill at camp. seems like there would be just the right number of rooers interested in seeing tool to make a latenight show a better choice. but again in the end it dosent matter. roo will be insane amounts of fun and we will all be looking forward to the surprises of 08

I really dont think you're giving Tool enough credit. They along with The Police are by far the biggest draws on Bonnaroo this year. Tool has masses of rabid fans, including myself.
That, and I really don't think many people are going to skip Tool. Keep in mind, Tool is probably by far the most commercially sucessful band on the fest. At least with the folks that are going to be at Bonnaroo. I mean, the Police might be up there with them, but they really havent been commercially successful in a while.
Thats just my two cents though. I think a lot more people will be eager to see Tool than you think.
Tool will only enhance Bonnaroo 2007. Quite the amazing act. We're very fortunate to have them aboard, i think.
If you are really worried about die hard "Opiate/Undertow" fans that are only there for Tool, and only interested in the more testosterone-fueled side of Tool, then just realize that Tool IS TOURING right now..it's not like they've been out of the touring scene for a few years and Tool fiends will be flocking to Bonnaroo from all over the globe (yes, Tool is that big of a headliner, dude).
Most avid Tool fans don't have a fat enough wallet to be following Tool around the tour and also hit up Bonnaroo along the way. It seems like Tool performing Roo is more geared to the kind folks that have always associated Tool with metal, and have no idea the degree of enlightenment that awaits them - the shock value should be through the roof..
Tool's come a long way.
Like Mokane said: "Art, Mind Expansion, Spirituality."
i know they are big world wide. but at roo if they were a latenight against umph/bisco, my morning jacket, grab, mule, flaming lips, sts9 or string cheese/keller incident they would probably have the smaller crowd against all of these groups. at bonnaroo anyhow. now coachella, lolla, or euro-fests would have a different outcome. just seems like tool would have fit nicely in a latenight tent and a different headliner that seemed to appeal to the normal roo attendee a little more would have pleased me. but thats just how i see it. i understand the need to sell tix and get free mainstream advertising by having radio bands at roo.
its hard to complain about roo. it will be the party of the year no matter what. but sometimes there are minor complaints.

Personally I'm really looking forward to seeing them at Bonnaroo. The thing I really like about 'Roo is that so many different styles of music are present so it's easy to get into new kinds of music. I think this show is going to open a lot of people up to Tool's music. Too bad for the ones who really like it though. Isn't this their last tour?

Madness. Pure madness.
EDIT: I would find a late night Which Stage set perfectly acceptable, because, like Dude said, the other headliner could possibly appeal to the main Roo crowd more. BUT, the draw for Tool might be underestimated, and the Which Stage subsequently swamped.
