I didn't see the half-time show but, wether you thought he was actually palying or not, Prince is a top-shelf musician. It's not fair to judge him (one way or the other) based on his role in a tv show. Not only is he one of the finest guitar players alive, he's an amazing songwriter, a true soul-man! Some people let his earlier material shape their opinion of him (some was very good but, way too '80s -IMO) but, in the years since "Raspberry Beret" he has recorded some of the best records i've ever heard! Just check-out "Musicology", for intance. It really doesn't get any funkier than that. Needless to say if he were to be added to this years Roo...I would be thrilled! Bonnaroo has a beautiful histrory of both out-doing it's self and broadening musically each and every year. This would be the perfect way to keep the tradition alive!

His half-time performance was about as genuine as they get. This is the first Super Bowl performance that I've sat through the entirety of. The man shredded his guitar to bits and didn't puss out with the rain situation, the way I assumed someone like Prince would.

Honestly, after seeing that i think i actually rather have prince at bonnaroo then the police. The fact that i dont think i've ever seen prince play near me does have something to do with it though. I think if the police didnt play roo id be able to catch them on their tour, but i dont know the next time prince will play near me.

I just had a sweet thought. Headliners go like so The Police/Prince/ then at this point widespread and dave could play all day, i could care less. But since im dreaming lets give Pink Floyd the last night. ;D A man can dream, right. This would definatly trump coachella, it doesnt get much better.
I will not soon forget Prince's Super Bowl performance as it was the best half-time show that I've ever witnessed. That dude plays the 'F' out of a guitar; his pipes are spot on too. I imagine he would put on quite a show at Bonnaroo. I heard he joined Maceo Parker at Vegoose during his late-night set. Could be fun

Prince was DEFINITELY playing and singing last night. No lip-sync there!
When it looked like he wasn't playing the guitar, he was hammering with his fret hand. That little dude can SHRED!!!
Hells yeah I would like to see "The Artist" at roo.
That was certainly the best halftime show I can remember in a long long time for the Super Bowl. I kept waiting for K-Fed, or Fergie to come out on stage and join him. Thankfully, they did not.....
I love you people. I was worried I'd come on this board and hear bad about him, but you all have shown his Purpleness lovee. If they pulled in Prince and the Police it would be fantastic. It would keep with the Bonnaroo tradition of good performers, without sticking itself in a jamhole. If he played at Roo it would be fantastic, but I'll definitely go see him on his next arena tour if he's not there.
Good idea too, Ziggy. Let's have Prince friday night, the Police saturday, and then a 6 hour Widespread Panic/Dave set. I don't say that to insult WP or Dave, I just hope that could please everyone.

I never knew till last night .... prince is pretty sick on the guitar. he'd be a totally different act to see, which would be cool. It's funny to imagine him there though.
I don't think it was an anti-Foo Fighters comment, it certainly wasn't from me. I just thought, given his big recording career, his releasing a pretty good album in 2005, and/or his love for Hendrix, he would have played either a song of his own or played all of All Along.
I'd love to see prince at 'roo. He'd be better than The Police and definitely better than Tom Petty, who occupied the "older crowd" headlining slot last year.

I would love to see Prince, and have said it before. One problem remains though. In my mind Superfly would not go for two acts based primarily out of the 80's, but who knows? The Police being there definately in my mind lessens the chance of Prince to a great extent.
That being said, I would love to see something like this:

isaac, I remember watching that performance on TV and my first thought was, "Man, that's a lot of guitars!" But yes, Prince is such a beast on the guitar and not many people are aware of it. It's funny, I wouldn't call myself a big fan of his music, but I'll forever defend the idea that Prince is one of the most gifted musicians alive.

i wouldn't mind a prince show, i've never been into him but my friend listened to him a lot a while back and there's no doubt he's a talented musician. i don't know what the chances of him being there are, though

Prince has recorded steadily for 20 years. He may have debuted in the '80s, but you can't really say that he's based primarily there/then. The police? No doubt about that...but not Prince. He just stopped releasing videos and singles, chosing to go more of a Pearl Jam route....but earlier. Personally, I would much rather see Prince at Roo and just skip the whole Police reunion. He's kept it continuously creative and real for decades. The Police are just making the rounds, couting on that whole nostalgia thing. *only my opinion....but i'm right! (j/k)*

Radiohead didn't lipsync, and they played their instruments. I would love to see Prince, but Roo is more about the music IMHO.
You're stupid. Prince is THE MAN. He doesn't lip sync and he can whale on the guitar. I don't know if you were drunk or sipping too much of that there absynth, but you can't go calling false shots around here.
