Probably because nobody likes his new stuff, so he'd be playing mainly the same set. If the new album was good and he played lots of material off it I would be fine with him headlining. If it's just gonna be Crash and All Along the Watchtower then the spot could be used better.

? Not sure what you mean, in 2005 a third of their set was from Stand Up, and they only played 3 songs off of Crash...
And they almost never play the same setlist twice - I've never heard them accused of playing the same set.
If DMB is touring in support of a new album you will get similar sets, but that is how it is with any band. They never repeat sets though, they always try to keep it somewhat fresh. Personally I am hoping for another Dave & Friends show.
i agree that roo needs to keep it fres. but i disagree with keeping it fresh with underground hipster stuff. sure us oldskool stoners love our oldschool jambands i dont know anyone who loves only the oldskool stuff. what about grace potter, tlg, alo, moonshinestill, etc... its not all dead and wsp. and part of the reason that we are happy to see the same act over and over is the fact that each show is different. they arent controlled by radio playlists that dictate which songs they have to play. and the songs that do get repeated are done differntly each time. we could have seen that same petty show at any stop on the tour. or saved some money and listened to it off the cd. sounded the same. i like petty and im glad i saw him. but i thought it was weak. why play your greatest hits note for note off your albums? weve all heard that a million times.
in example. another band i wanna see is the who. and i havent heard them on tour but i imagine its a similar show to petty. id rather hear grab open up with a 27 minutes who are you then see the who play it off the album.

If RHCP wasn't doing Coachella I could see them filling a headliner spot at the Roo, besides that I think moe. will headline either this or next year. Add someone like steve miller band and thats a headliner lineup... thoughts?
I won't say moe. won't ever be big enough, but as long as there's still things like summer camp and moe.down, Bonnaroo won't want to headline them. Who would pay $200 to see them at 'roo when you can get 3 nights of them at summer camp?

seriously??? i dont think any of those bands could headline roo. just my thoughts though.

I Like RHCP...but
I saw them at woodstock '99 and they're live show is pretty rough.... i'm not all for sounding like studio stuff..but anthony can barely carry tune. Maybe I caught him on an off day.
I've also noticed that they failed to sellout some of their shows on the current tour...

idon't think i'd like to see the chili peppers headline a fest i was at. just because in my opinion the last 2 cd's the realesed were absolute crap. californication was okay, and one hot minute was terrible. sure they play some of the old stuff, but not enough imo
I don't want to see them headline because it'd just make me say "so what?" They play so many festivals, it'd be nothing if they played Bonnaroo. I actually like the live videos I've seen recently on Youtube, but I would like someone a bit more unique in the spot they'd take. Even though it wouldn't ever happen, a pre-headlining spot would be great for me.

Hasn't the Dave scene died off considerably now? I mean he hasn't had the big national radio and mtv exposure he had mid 90's so it doesn't seem like there would still be that "white hat" contingent.
what would you do at a concert if your not going to drink and yell. its a party. ive only seen dave at roo so i cant comment about his other shows. but if you go to a show on or near a college campus of course your going to get asswipes there. it dosent mean his music is bad. and if thats your problem with him then you should want a roo show. those asswipes dont come to roo. they wait til hes playing near their frat house.
there were tons of buttholes at john butler trio in ann arbor (even though its an awesome town. i think mosst of the aholes came from toledo. maybe a bus from columbus ;D ). but it was still a great show and i wouldnt blame john butler for that.

Everyone has their own opinion about Dave, I was never a Dave fan BUT............................his 2005 performance awesome, simply awesome. He was also very good at The Christmas Jam with Warren Haynes. Their version of Cortez the Killer was unforgetable.

I dont think anyone came from columbus, most of the assholes im sure were residing in ann arbor. ;D
Not really a Dave fan but I've been to a couple shows and it wasn't that bad. The only thing I didn't like was the dirty looks many people gave me when we lit up a joint. I mean I understand the whole "it's illegal" thing but it was outside and we weren't blowing it in people's faces. I mean if you don't like then just look away for the few moments people are smoking. Nothing happened but it was a little uncomfortable. It's just something you have to accept at a show like that.
