if y'all see me tomorrow, tell me to get my ass back to the office i have work to do.
lol. I didn’t see you. Kind of a chill Mardi Gras for me. I ended up driving and so drank mostly water. We started CBD and saw some of Zulu then walked to the Marigny to see Societe of St Anne. Ran into my nieces and baby brother then caught a cousin who moved back to town I hadn’t seen in a while. I could have partied it up and left my car in the parking garage but I didn’t take off tomorrow so said f it. Had a half of a beer and then went to El Gato Negro and had 2 pineapple cilantro margaritas around noon and left it at that. Lots of fun but certainly not wild and crazy for me. Caught the kids all but just for a little while and ran into my ex-bil on a detour around the cleanup uptown and saved him a few blocks walk which was pretty cool and random. Not the greatest year for costume parody costumes though there was plenty of clever shit around.

I saw the purple ski mask with the horns. I yelled and yelled. We were at the corner of Esplanade and Royal around 11 or noon. thejeremy went running after but the ski mask disappeared. When the person didn't respond to esteban or Steve, we assumed it was one of you kids.

We tried really hard to get your attention.
Oh shit. K said she heard someone calling my name a couple of times and I couldn't find anyone. Sorry I missed y'all, but I'm glad y'all were out there. People seemed perplexed at the mask though it got some compliments. She got way more on her gumball machine costume which was obviously a lot more work.

She may have heard, but she never stopped moving. LOL Like didn't even pause and I didn't see her looking around. It's all good. I am glad that she got some compliments. I was body shaming myself to Jeremy, and right when I finished, some chick on the street basically dammmmmmmnnnnnned me and told me I was killing it. I apologized to myself and thanked her. LOL
vampire weekend is playing sat the 27 per their tour schedule announced today. i'll be there!
I wish I could switch Greta Van Fleet and VW for weekend 2. I'll throw in Queen Latifa AKA THE EQUALIZER? Still don't understand how anyone would want to watch that show, much less it's apparently going on season 4.

Edit- If nothing else I bet a lot of people will be selling 4 day VIP tickets after the Rolling Stones day.
Not sure what I’m going to do now first weekend. I like Sunday the best which I didn’t intend going that day. Bomba Estereo is Saturday and I didn’t intend going that day. I also like the last Sunday and didn’t intend to go that day either.
Ok I lied, not going to jazz fest. Whole weekend wasn't in the cards anyway, was just gonna be there one day for NYCH.
Opted instead for pit Tix for Neil in Huntsville on Sunday night.
If bonnaroo keeps this trajectory, probably gonna go big on jazz fest next year.
BOOOOO!!!
Also, just so I can keep up my VW hate, thank goodness I know which day not to go now. LOL
lol. I might know one vampire song. Some people seemed to be excited about seeing them at Bonnaroo. My cousin in that neighborhood always has a crawfish boil that Saturday. So unless it’s Neil or Pearl Jam or The Who, I’m not usually going that day. I’ve seen Stapleton, and although I don’t listen to country, it is headliner. I’d likely either see a few minutes of VW and Stapleton or finish it jazz or blues tent. But otherwise Bomba Estereo, Freedia, Molly, Nicholas Payton, maybe even Cray Band or Dirt Band? Could leave early but I’m going some of that day.
More cool shit has been popping up for nights. Sun Ra is playing Shorty Fest outside at Tips Monday between weeks. I saw Robert Glasper and Yebba (Memphis in the hau) & friends (jazz after dark series) first Saturday early night. Lots more to come so im keeping options open. But it’s a weird year since all my kids/rides will be working nights. Easy enough to grab the streetcar home but you still have to get to wherever which can be a pain in the fucking ass. It got me last year night 1 of Disco Biscuits too. I had to drive and don’t drink and drive whereas otherwise wtf im at a biscuits show mostly sober?
I still don’t have any idea what I’m doing nights. I got shit to do in early April and when I get back to the city after that I’ll figure it out. I know all my kids have to work W2 and won’t be off until 3/4am but at shit I’m not going to. I kind of want to catch that Monday 3am Break Science show. I always try to see them when they’re in town and got to see that PL afterparty show in a daze but I got there and home. But I’m too old to come in at 5:30 and head to work (those were the days) and might not want to take that day off - depending on how many days I end up taking off during the fest (including possibly Daze Between). Other than second weekend Friday and Saturday at the fest it’s all up in the air. But I got Neil and Foo Fighters and most likely will go Panic day and first Saturday.
Damn the Tab Benoit show was cancelled for 5/2. My friend down there thinks we should go out on Frenchmen St so that's probably where I'll be.
The music bars I can think of there are DBA, Cafe Negril, 30/90, Blue Nile (and upstairs Blue Nile), Maison, Bamboulas,Spotted Cat. Snug Harbor, Vaso and Balcony Music Club. Dragons Den is close to there too if they’re doing anything. Santos is a couple blocks walk down Decatur and usually has punk or EDM. Also Checkpoint Charlie’s is right there on Esplanade. There’s decent food on Frenchmen and also street vendors bbqing and shit. It’s likely to be packed because it’s Jazz Fest, but it shouldn’t be hard to get in places. Most are covers for the bands (usually 10-20) but 30/90 is a tip the band bar that usually won’t have a cover unless they book someone bigger. There are also some window bars open as well for a quick beer or drink. Look at Satchmo before you head out that night and all those bars should have listings with who is playing. Most aren’t up yet.
Still too early ideas have me going Thursday Week 1, Saturday later in the day Week 1 and Friday/Saturday Week 2. So for my money
Thursday: Iceman Special or The Tin Men > Brassaholics or Agrupacion Chango of Columbia > jack around for a while > Cimafunk > WSMFP (2 1/2 hours) with maybe a trip to Stephen Marley
Saturday: Bomba Estereo > Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway > Big Freedia > Nicholas Payton & Nth Power or Robert Cray Band
Saturday Week 2: Smoking Time Jazz Club > James Rivers Movement/Pres Hall Brass > Kermit Ruffins & BBQ Swingers > 15 minutes of Antwigadee > PJ Morton > Nickel Creek > Neil Young (maybe a minute or 2 at Queen Latifah)
Some of the old vendors are back, and there are some new ones. The cultural exchange village (Colombia in 2024) has:
Empanada de pollo & papa (Chicken & Potato) con aji Empanada de papa y queso (potato and cheese) con aji Ceviche de cameron (Shrimp) con Patacones (fried plantains) Ceviche de vetales con patacones (vegetables) con patacones (Fried plantains)
I haven't had any vegetarian ceviche, but I'll be getting that. Otherwise, the full list is at the link. www.nojazzfest.com/food/
Off-topic plug, but any locals should swing by Uptown this weekend for Crawfest...$20 for a shitton of crawfish + some decent live music + watching a bunch of stoned college kids on 4/20
The Killers are doing a show Thursday at Tipitina's. That venue holds maybe 750-800 so that's going to be a shitshow. I don't like The Killers enough to do it, but it would be cool to see them in a small club. Tickets are on sale Wednesday at 10:00am at Ticketmaster.
Also Sun Ra Arkestra booked a night show at recently re-opened Dew Drop Inn Hotel & Lounge for the 28th which I think is Sunday.
So far for Weekend 1, I'm going to see Panic (wooo!) on Thursday and probably Cory Wong night show on Friday. I still want to go to the fest on Saturday but it depends on whether my cousin throws his annual crawfish boil or not and then I'll have to determine which I'm doing or if I'm splitting the day up. No other plans yet.
My Thursday schedule looks like Iceman Special > Agrupacion Chango (Colombia) or Mokoomba of Zimbabwe > walk around a bit > Cimafunk > WSMFP
