Interesting...apparently, Shaky Knees just dropped their daily schedule, three months before the event. Now that Boston Calling is also a LiveNation-owned fest, I wonder if this means that we're going to get the BC schedule drop much earlier than in past years. I hope so, because why spend time checking out artists beforehand if it turns out that you're definitely not going to see them? Also, they might move more tickets earlier if people are holding off to be sure that there won't be a lot of conflicts between the artists they want to see.
Sunday has a few conflicts for me: Francis of Delerium playing on Blue at the same time that Royel Otis is playing on Red and Hozier vs Blondshell. Saw Hozier last summer, so could do Blondshell and catch the last 30 of Hozier, but he puts on a great show.
Also, if you're worried about the Fleshwater vs Megan conflict - we've got Megan at home > Cakeswagg on Saturday. Conflict solved
I also definitely still expect there to be aftershows announced, which could help with conflicts. Sure, they won't be at Sinclair, which is a bummer, but they'll exist. Shaky Knees always has a ton, though I don't expect us to have quite that many.
A buddy of mine got an email from bandsintown a couple weeks ago that listed a Frank Turner show at Big Night Live on Friday 5/24. Can't find any info about it online, but the venue is open that night right now, so I expect that to be announced as an aftershow. (The email came out the day Frank announced his US tour so it likely was included in error and quickly corrected.)

that's what i'm hoping for, it was listed on his website for a little while
Lovejoy just cancelled, according to Boston Calling posts on social media. They mention that they're going to book a replacement artist.
This could be an opportunity to tinker with the schedule a bit and move a few pieces on the chess board. I've been checking out a few songs by Blondshell and I wouldn't mind seeing the Hozier-Blondshell conflict go away.
It's really wild that the top three Green/Red artists on Sunday are all arena headliners now. Is it worth it to Blondshell to play earlier but in front of a larger crowd on Green/Red, taking over the Lovejoy spot given that a lot of people will be glued to the Green/Red end of the grounds that day? Then, they could book something very different from Hozier to close Blue. A rap artist closing Blue would create a one-two punch, with a rap fans able to get their money's worth on a one-day pass by moving from Green to Blue after MTG finishes.

putting Megan on blue against Hozier would make a lot of people quite mad. Speaking as a queer gen z person, there is a ton of overlap between Killers/Hozier/Megan fans so theyre better off just directly replacing lovejoys slot. Either that, or moving Blondshell to lovejoys spot and booking a new blue closer
I'm hoping they bump Royel Otis to the Lovejoy timeslot to remove the Royel Otis/Francis of Delirium conflict. Then I can roll from Red to Orange to catch Fleshwater and then coin flip Hozier or Blondshell (terrible conflict).
Also, Lovejoy cancelled all of their festival appearances - Coachella, Bonnaroo, etc. Not familiar with the band, but I guess there's some potential legal issues going on with one of the band members.

Where did I suggest that a Hozier/MTS conflict should replace the current schedule? Move Blondshell to the Lovejoy spot, keep everything else the same on Green/Red, and book the now open Blue closing spot with a rapper on the level of, say, Lil Yachty. Maybe someone old school like A Tribe Called Quest or Ice Cube. You've just made the idea of buying a one-day pass a *lot* more appealing to rap fans because they can go right from MTS on Green to "Rapper to be Named" on Blue.

Obviously MTS, not MTG. Nobody's paying to see MTG at a music festival, unless the headliners are Kid Rock and Ted Nugent.
obviously would be in favor of them booking someone bigger than Lovejoy as a replacement, like that "get a new Blue stage closer" idea... but more realistically, they're going to shift Chappell Roan or Royel Otis up and book someone we've never heard of to play earlier in the day

this is by far the most Boston Calling move, they did that for Black Star by replacing them w a no name band Bear Hands

They'd have to calculate whether the extra one-day passes sold by adding a second "name" rapper to the day's lineup would cover the cost of the booking plus create some additional profit. If it won't, then they'll probably do exactly what you suggested.
If they don't bring in a bigger name, I still like to see them move Blondshell back and have The Revivalists close Blue and they can then stick this year's version of Bear Hands somewhere early in the day. But they'll probably think that Hozier and The Revivalists are too similar to go head to head to do that.
The food line-up has dropped and it's almost exclusively the same vendors we've seen at Harvard for a long time, with Blackbird Donuts and their sister business, Sally's Sandwiches being new. The other names which appear to be new are Dumpling Daughter, The MacBar, Shaking Crab, and Ricen.
It does seem, though, like there are slightly fewer food vendors than they've had in recent years. On one level that's not a big deal -- it's not like there aren't a ton of additional choices just a few minutes away on foot in Harvard Square, if you want something that's not on the grounds -- but it may mean even longer than usual lines and wait times for the vendors who are there, which is a biggish deal.

i miss arancini bros :/ Dumpling daughter has amazing frozen gyoza tho
I'd like to get rid of that Chappell / Kingfish conflict
they loaded sunday up with all the best acts its annoying.
also i feel like Glorilla is gonna replace Lovejoy. makes the most sense because shes already touring with Megan
That would also make a one-day pass more appealing to rap fans. It's never made sense to me for a festival to book just one artist who's stylistically very different from everyone else in the day's lineup, because that may not create enough appeal to get people who like that genre to buy a one-day pass.
Surprise, surprise, they actually booked a decent replacement for Lovejoy. I'm glad that they reworked the schedule and that I'm now going to be able to see both Hozier and Blondshell. Sure, it would be nice to see Alvvays, too, but I'd rather see Blondshell, so this feels like a win to me.
An already strong Sunday line-up and schedule just got even better. (Honestly, I have no idea when I'm going to be able to eat on Sunday because there isn't anyone between 4 pm and curfew on my schedule whom I'd want to half-heartedly watch while waiting in line for dinner. Hopefully, either Zola Simone or Fleshwater will show up in the NICE lineup, which will open up a lane for dinner.)

Yikes, just noticed that Fleshwater was pushed back to a later start time and now overlaps with Hozier. Oh well, that's my chance to grab dinner, and the lines should be less intense around 7 pm, as opposed to 5 or 6.
Yeah, massive upgrade, but the Hozier/Alvvays conflict is tough.
Alvvays easily for me, gonna be the only act I feel bad missing from this lineup
yeah unfortunately i’ll have to miss them. Megan and Hozier are my partners two fav acts on here. Hopefully set times for Osh work out and SZA, Justice and Alvvays don’t conflict
A handful of Boston Calling artists will be streaming from Coachella this weekend, so it's an opportunity to get a sneak preview and possibly resolve a conflict or two.
