Got the call from the test, and it came back negative. Whew. I still got a touch of a sore throat but I’m gonna not be totally concerned about that now as it’s apparently coincidental. Everyone stay safe. I’m going to continue staying as much out of the public as possible.
yay! did you get any insight into what criteria they're looking for before testing? it's still very hard to be tested up here

Thanks for letting us know! Happy for you and personally this is a huge relief for me. Keep taking care of yourself.
Thanks man. It was a weird position to be in. On the one hand if I had it, I wasn’t real sick and was hopeful that I was halfway through it. But it seems like that second week was where you either get over it or crash so I was preparing shit that I never fuck with like compiling passwords for 401k and bank and shit in case I had to pass that info along to the kids. Not having it means continued extreme diligence and hopefully a vaccine.

So I called Oschner Health on Friday and they prescreened me and said deal with it at home. One of my daughter’s friends who had a fever also heard you could go to the drive thru community health free testing site at UNO if you either had fever or if you did the day before. It was a National Guard site, so fever was the criteria in New Orleans.
i have my plex server set up so friends can download any media they want, pretty sure friends that work in hospitals have downloaded every single medical show in existence at this point. meanwhile im still stuck on that greys anatomy episode with the pole stuck between two people from 15 years ago
Anyone have any friends that work at Anheuser Busch?
Why do you ask? Is Pip low on beer?
Silver Surfer owns pip. I wish I did though. But moreso looking to network there. Most of my work experience is in experiential marketing and given that agencies likely won’t be hiring when I graduate I think it would be best to try to work that angle in a recession proof market (alcohol)
Ugh. Went to file for unemployment tonight to find out the file has been closed (after receiving two payments). Looks like I'll be spending all day on the phone tomorrow.

You've posted a few times about your concern about your career trajectory/job market/living with parents/etc. I know it's difficult, but try to to remember that while this may be effecting your immediate plans, you're at the very, very beginning of being in the workforce, and far more people than you might expect end up tossing their plans out the window after a few years anyway. And that's fine! Life has myriad twists and turns (such as this pandemic), and sometimes you just gotta ride the rapids for a bit. It's not the end of the world. Unless it is, of course, in which case the job market is the least of your worries. But seriously, you're gonna do your best with what you've got and things are most likely going to be okay. Hold onto the reigns, but don't white-knuckle 'em.
And on a more practical note, my girlfriend works in marketing and she's busier than ever as her company needs to communicate all the changes they're making to their business - new strategies, online engagement, trainings moving online, etc. It's a great job and she's got room to grow. You're not going to land your dream job right out the gate anyway but if she can get to where she is with a degree in photography, I think things'll work out for you just fine.

Lol sorry I've been talking about it so much. It's not so much an overbearing worry for me, I just know that I will probably have to (hopefully only slightly) change my career plans depending on what happens and I'm trying to work all angles of this thing. I'm literally spending my days working out for 3 hours and playing Fortnite. I'm a busy body and an extreme extrovert by nature so I feel like I always need to be doing something and talking to people so working out things like potentially opening a bar and finding jobs elsewhere has given me something to do/talk about and by default made this whole thing a little easier. Doing something during this also makes me feel like I will have something to speak for when all of this is over. I went from having 5 jobs + school to barely having school in 3 weeks so it's been an adjustment. I just feel like if I don't do everything I can to come out ahead of this then it reflects poorly on me and just makes my life harder in general. But I am also aware of my incredible limitations here and that people hiring will understand that.
Basically, (roughly) in the words of Christian Clancy: All you have to do is try your best. If you did your best and failed then there is no reason to be upset because there was nothing more you could have done.

keep on being you. we all thrive in different social situations. its ok to be miserable, worried, without purpose or whatever you're feeling right now... everyone is at some point. I know that i couldn't be enjoying the life that i am without people like you, and you'll get to be there in the future to pick someone else up that is thriving right now.
Y'all know any good apps/games to play real-time with people long distance? Lots of words with Friends type turn based stuff, or "all in the same room" party games. Trying to do a charades/cranium type thing with my parents and siblings over zoom, where we all have a phone/tablet etc. And video chat.
We did a game of Catan with our friends last weekend where we both setup boards and mirrored each other (one can overhead view, one cam player view) and it worked pretty well, but kinda cumbersome.
gamesbyemail.com has some clones of board games you can play online, been playing with some friends. If anyone wants to play Axis and Allies hit me up.
How do they test if the vaccine is effective? Intentionally expose you to corona or just send into the wild and see if the experimental group contracts COVID at a significantly lower rate than unvaccinated people?
They test for antibodies. If you start producing them in high enough quantities, then you will be immune.

That's a good one.
I like the Children's Hospital episode that does that plot, never realized they actually did it on Greys until now haha
One positive about having a Democratic governor in the South is that you're not likely to get as bull****ed by unscience. Turns out the death rate from Covid-19 disproportionately impacts African American Louisianians. It appears to be a combination of health issues and lack of access to healthcare along with blue collar jobs meaning people can't work remotely and similar type factors. Here's the graph on deaths here including racial makeup and preexisting conditions:
I think this is important going forward. We only have Edwards 3 1/2 more years, so eventually we'll have a governor that doesn't give a fuck about science in favor of bluster and bullshit.

So I basically leave the property every five-ish days to take the trash off. I have not really left much aside from that since abrakapokus does the grocery shopping. I go to a dump that is newer and a little further away than the one that is right near my house because I like to take the drive and be out a little longer but for an appropriate reason. On the way back today, I rolled up to a stoplight behind a semi with
TRUMP 2020 SAVE THE COUNTRY GIVE COVID-19 TO A DEMOCRAT
written on the dirt of the back of the truck. Fuck that guy. Thanks to him for reminding me that I may miss individuals, but I do not miss people really.

Those stickers are good for people to know who's vehicles to key.
