What percentage of people do you all actually think would take the vaccine? So many people have gone apeshit over wearing masks and running with so much fake info and conspiracies and I'm afraid that once the vaccine is available, things will turn up a notch with hysteria. I wouldn't be shocked if this divide ends up turning a ton more people into anti-vaxxers and the turnout for immunization is much lower than expected. I've already seen so many comments on Facebook and such with people saying they will never get the vaccine.
99.9%. Its going to be mandated, like the measles vaccine or the other vaccines that we have in society. There will be a small percentage that will take themselves and their children completely out of society in order to not take the vaccine sure, but the vast majority will take it.
But my relatives said it's going to have government nanobots in it.

The Dow futures are already up 500 points with this vaccine news. If the money wants something to occur, it occurs in this country and the money sure seems to want everyone to be vaccinated as soon as possible

I was listening to “Mathematics” by Mos Def yesterday and he has a line that goes: “40% of Americans own a cell phone, so they can hear everything that you say when you ain’t home.”
That must’ve sounded like a FUCKING BAR in 1999. Now it seems almost whimsical.

As a black guy who lives in the South I do feel like it's worth remembering that the Tuskegee experiments only ended in the 70s and that there's a general fear/distrust of medicine and medical professionals that persists in some communities that is distinct from the anti-vax crowd. Vaccines are good and everyone should get them but I know a lot of people who would be skeptical of the first round of a vaccine who aren't anti-vaxers.

Speaking of money talking, Wal-Mart will be requiring masks in all their stores next week including Sam's Club locations. The mask confrontation videos are getting ready to get more insane.
I don't know that I'd call this a reality check as much as a pessimist's take on the timeline. It cites things like antibody-dependent enhancement as potential pitfalls, when, if I've been reading correctly, there's been no sign of that in any phase of the trials for the currently leading candidates. It also cites manufacturing timelines, and while that's certainly a consideration, deals are already in place and manufacturing is already occurring on several candidates, even beyond the two that are currently in Phase 3 trials.
I also feel like comparing the development of this vaccine to the development of others in the past is a bit specious. First of all, medical science has advanced a ton even in the past 20 years. Secondly, we've never had a situation in which pretty much the entire world scientific community has been focused on developing a workable vaccine, with the amount of money and resources being pumped into the effort that's being supplied now. The economic stakes are so high that moneyed interests all over the globe are going to be invested in this getting something out there as soon as humanly possible. That has literally never happened in modern history.
I mean, look, I don't know if the "early 2021 for distribution" thing is going to work out, or not. There are, of course, no guarantees. But this article, it seems to me, ignores some of the things that have already happened or that are already slated to happen in describing the process.

I not anti-vax and I sure as shit am not standing in line for that first round of vaccines. ESPECIALLY being asthmatic. I don't even get a flu shot (haven't had the flu since I was 18), I know I should but the distrust is real.

I don’t know what else you can do though. I guess you can wait a few weeks after the first group of ordinary citizens gets it to see if there are any drawbacks showing up in the public at large that maybe didn’t show up in the trials. Meanwhile we are pretty much stuck in this situation for at least the next 7-8 months at the earliest. I’m pretty bored with no social activities. And I’m sure several months down the line it will be worse. So I’m not planning on camping out to be one of the first. But I’ll certainly be in line pretty soon thereafter.

That first round of vaccines is going to be a madhouse. Think the panic-buying that happened in March, except unlike toilet paper, it's something you actually need ASAP. I assume they'll try to distribute it in phases based on both exposure levels (frontline workers first) and vulnerability (the elderly, those with pre-existing conditions), but that's going to lead to its own mess of people trying to "cut the line" and claim they need their vaccines first. And I'm sure celebrities will all get theirs before we do too. In other words, while I obviously want to get mine ASAP too, I'm gonna sit that first round out too.

As long as we get it in time for the 2021 festival season.

The vaccine administration process only makes me more skeptical about 2021 festival season, though. What is enough time for your attendees to get vaccinated? Do you make everyone sign an agreement that if they haven't been vaccinated, they are entering at their own risk? Do you still give temperature checks at the gate? Even an early 2021 vaccine gives little time for the spring festivals, especially if there's a long waiting list for the shot.

The other thing to keep in mind is who's President in 2021. Given the way this administration has botched *checks notes* LITERALLY EVERYTHING, I have no faith in a Trump-led government competently handling a nationwide vaccine rollout.
I'll just add that to the towering pile of reasons to hope like hell that he's voted the fuck out.

i am not a public policy or risk management expert, just a guy on the internet.
but i would think once a vaccine is widely available, festivals will basically be enter at your own risk. vaccines are to protect (a) the person taking the vaccine and (b) vulnerable people who for some reason cannot take a vaccine. i imagine festivals will add some hold-us-harmless covid-19 or more broad language to their TOS if that language isn't already in there.

that honestly sounds terrifying for Walmart workers. I feel like there’s no way this is actually enforced in many places.
Cause Costco hasnt been handling it well at all? I think theyll take care of it and give zero fucks as to the small amount of people who either dont shop there anymore or get thrown out of stores. It wont matter, theyll still make money one way or another.
Kroger is also going to require masks at all their stores starting next week.
Look, at least this isnt the UK where store staff is not allowed to enforce the new mask rules that are coming into effect next week. The police have to do it, which is utter bullshit.

ah yes because there are no massive differences between Walmart and Costco. In Denver people have been generally good about wearing masks and literally the only time I’ve seen people make a fuss about it in person was the one time I went to Walmart and some man was bothering a teenage worker asking if he was toxic because he was wearing a mask. Mind you the kid wasn’t telling the man to wear a mask, simply wearing one because obviously all their workers are required to. This is in Denver. I can’t imagine trying to enforce those kinda rules in a Florida or Alabama Walmart.
This is about as brain-dead as someone can get. The alternate reality Republicans portray or in some cases believe, is fucking crazy. Wtf is that d-bag on? That's coming on the heels of record deaths and record cases in Florida, and everything's fine. Dickhead.
