My girlfriend has this brother, that has this girlfriend that's been in Miami for the last week.
We havent been home since Christmas because the GF is an ER nurse and doesnt want to infect her parents. We've literally avoided seeing her parents (and mine as well) the entire year as to not expose them. Friday morning she woke me up (just in from her night shift) fussing at her parents because said brothers GF was over at her parents house, fresh in from Miami.
Her mom woke up with a fever yesterday. Needless to say, yesterday the brothers GF tested positive, as well as the brother. As well as the mom and dad. It's so unbelievably frustrating that they would not listen to us and stay away from that girl.

OMG. That's scary. I'm sorry she's (y'all) are having to deal with this. Sending good vibes to y'all and her family.

Thanks. It's good. You just want to be mad, but then can't because everyone's sick. They're the type that complain that the numbers are fake and the media is plotting to destroy cheeto. Mostly worried about her dad who has had some heart issues in the past. As well as her 70 something year old grandmother who hasnt tested positive yet, but does live with them. She's luckily got a place she can go to self quarantine and monitor symptoms away from everyone else.

My grandfather turned 83 the other day so I called to wish him a late happy birthday. Got pretty much all the talking points on how people are overreacting (death numbers are inflated, it’s mostly people in prisons and nursing homes dying, masks probably don’t do much good, polio was very scary too) and a recap of their Fourth of July party that at least twenty people attended. I tried to present some helpful information and then he just says he doesn’t believe anything anyone says anymore.
In good news, my office extended our working from home until August 10, and my supervisor is trying to convince the powers that be to give the three/four of us in my position the option to work from home permanently or at least until there’sa significant change in the state of things as far as the virus goes.
So I started a new job yesterday. Most of the time people are far enough apart anyway, but also people here really don't seem to want to ever wear a mask anyway.
I also hosted trivia for the first time in nearly four months yesterday. It was outside between a patio and the corner of the parking lot. That was different.
I've also been to a couple breweries now, the ones in NH I mentioned before. And some family gatherings, without masks.
It seems like I'm one of the more reckless ones here.

I don’t qualify so I’m gonna be holed up for a bit longer. Still no symptoms so I’m not tweaking too hard. The change of scenery and schedule has actually been kinda nice

Florida deaths and hospitalizations hit a record high today. Tuesdays are typically lower count days because they count Mondays. Plus, the median age of new cases is 40, so...
Ohio's implementing mandatory mask mandates on a county by county basis now based on severity of the outbreak. The 3 biggest counties (that encompass Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati) are included in the 7 counties under the order. It's a nice first step but I'm worried about how it'll be enforced and if it'll lead to people on the periphery of the counties just going maskless to neighboring counties' bars and restaurants
He's thinking about cancelling. He told his wife Lynn, "why are we going? We do zoom for church. We're going to get on a plane and fly to a state that's rising in cases?"
I told him don't go. I'm hoping he won't. He's pretty worried about the virus. Him and my brother were texting me everyday checking on me. Needless to say, my brother and I don't have that relationship at all.
I bought two really nice N95's back when the last big plant explosion happened along with a ton of filters for them. She's been using one at her job, and I'm contemplating on wearing the other one to work and out and about, but not sure if it's A) Overkill and/or if I'll B) be perceived as a jerkstore because it's an N95 not in the hands of a health care worker. But, like. Does anyone really want my used mask (also used it when tearing out my floors).
Holy shit Texas is ordering schools to open in the fall as well. Even if Texas and Florida were to completely shut down right now which they’re not going to do, they still wouldn’t peak till August (when school starts). Not to mention ICE basically forcing universities to open next semester. They’re giving teachers a death sentence.
Hail Mary's and desperation. The GOP will do anything at this point, good or bad. They are actively trying to take away healthcare, voting rights and people's lives. And it's not even a joke or irony or anything. They simply don't give a fuck making them all unfit to lead from Trump to Desantis to Webb to Abbott and Patrick. They don't care. They don't do their jobs. Politics is more important than lives. Terrible.

Mayor of Columbus has said that it won’t be enforced. When I went to the store seemed to be nobody taking it seriously (and a cop is stationed outside my Kroger 27/4).
I'm starting my MBA next year and the impact that the ICE announcement has had on programs is incredible. I know Harvard/MIT are suing, but if for some reason it's allowed, it's going completely decimate the graduate school landscape. Fortunately my program at the moment is hybrid so students should be fine, but the lack of internationals will kill the experience for many other programs that plan to be 100% virtual starting in the fall.

This is insanity.
All while we hit 10k cases yesterday (record high) along with record highs in deaths, hospitalizations and ventilator use.
