In the protest videos and photos I've seen, there are plenty of people without masks, but they're outnumbered by people wearing them. It was slight assurance that more people are still taking this seriously than ones who aren't.
But then I saw the below video and realized nah, we're still fucked.
Need updates Silver Surfer . Where is Pip pic? Did Pip get a new friend? What if they don't like each other? Can I pick Pip in the Zombie Animal draft?

New report today on animal trials of the Beijing Institute of Biological Products' vaccine candidate. It was more effective than Oxford's at the same stage...which might be expected, given that it's your bog-standard inactivated virus vaccine, rather than the type of new technology being employed by AZD1222.
Anyway. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. I know we're all hoping that the fact that some of Oxford's monkeys did contract the virus could be explained away by the fact that they positively bombarded the poor bastards with crazy viral loads, but one has to wonder what's going to happen if a vaccine that kinda-sorta works is the first to market, vs. something like this one, which looks (so far, anyway) more effective.
EDITED TO ADD: As a bonus, also some really positive results in a very small-scale, non-controlled study on the use of the cancer drug acalabrutinib on COVID-19 patients experiencing severe respiratory distress. It's preliminary, but still. C'mon, science.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
We still have the Moderna vaccine to watch. We have not put all our cookies in the Oxford jar. That is one good thing about this. We are looking at 9 or so really good options.
And ranitidine is looking promising for slowing down the progression of the disease. Don't ask me why, it's for ulcers.

I ended up going, though I didn't stay long. Most people were in masks and there was a breeze, and I didn't feel uncomfortable when I was outside of the crowd (which was about 75% of the time). Probably won't take a bigger risk like that for a little bit, but I'm glad I went. And ngl just being around other human beings felt nice.
This feels odd to say, but at the protest I went to in Cleveland I'd estimate better than 80% of people were wearing masks, which was slightly comforting. Normally when I'm out shopping it seems more like 20%, and my customers are probably even less likely than that to wear masks into the restaurant.
Good to know that the pandemic is over, because most people around here have either stopped giving any fucks or never did to begin with.
I know there are SO MANY more important things going on in the world right now, and it's stupid to feel this way, but this being the weekend of Governors Ball - the first Governors Ball with an age restriction, with a lineup that felt like it was aimed right at me and what I like - has me in a really huge funk. ...
Again, I know it's dumb to get depressed over something like that when the world is on fire and people are out in the streets trying to change life-and-death shit...but, damn, I miss live music so much it literally hurts.
That's a totally normal way to feel, and there's nothing wrong about it. I was pretty down on Thursday when halfway through my work day I realized I should have been setting up camp at Nelsonville at that moment. To make things even better, I pulled a hamstring just before leaving work on Friday (or maybe a glute, but I'm not telling anyone I pulled a butt muscle), and had to hobble around on Sunday because no one could/would cover me.
This pandemic is affecting us all in different ways, some worse than others (as you know all too well), but the minor inconveniences sure are no fun for anybody. I live for summer and outdoor events like festivals, barbecues, and baseball games, and not going to Bonnaroo this coming week is weighing pretty heavy on me right now. I know I'm surviving alright, but this is feeling like a lost year and the tiny light at the end of the tunnel seems really far off.
Fuck no, because freedom! I don't know about Nevada, but around here, retail , service, and restaurant workers have to wear masks to protect the public, but fuck making the public wear masks to protect workers or each other, because it's a free country. What's good for the goose is apparently not something the gander give a shit about.

Lol, this is why the US is one of the worst countries when it has come to the virus
Masks are pretty effective at stopping the spread (not perfect ofc), but many are not great at preventing you from getting sick (especially those bandannas and cloths, or if the virus is on an object)
Poor workers have to deal with these people
Huge spike coming in early July, hopefully I can keep working from home even longer

If I tried to argue with every person who commented on local news about how masks are totally ineffective and the CDC/WHO doesn't recommend them for healthy people, it would consume my entire week.
My test is today at 6. My symptoms have gotten only slightly worse. No fever but I feel like crap, exhausted even after sleeping well. I kinda see it going either way now

Went to the local TN Dept of Health office today for their drive-thru screening. They used the oral swab, and it took less than ten minutes total. With four of us in the house, we are hoping to use that to overcome the error rate in the testing. For TN residents, this testing is free. They won't even look at your insurance card. See locations at www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov/remote-assessment-sites.html. Results take 3-5 days to get back per the nurse.

Let us know. Fingers crossed. My animal army are pulling for you. (Shameless plug)

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. The problem is that presymptomatic people are very contagious and there is no way to tell if you are presymptomatic or asymptomatic until you actually have symptoms
I didn’t cash out my ticket though I have no real idea if I would actually go or not. I would want to go and if fucking Red Bull or LiveXLive or someone would pick it up for broadcast, I’d be willing to pay if I like a sizable chunk of the lineup. But going? Eh? Maybe not?
We should pass World War I American deaths on Thursday. Y’all may recall that over half of those deaths were the result of the 1918 pandemic. The milestone is 116,156 (could have sworn I saw 114k when I did the research in April). Today we crossed 2 million know American cases.
i dunno about not uncomfortable. admittedly i got my test done at an "unofficial" site, but they stuck that swab way further up my butt then i thought they would.
