I bought that too... and... i never used it or the travel sized gold bond i had. however, i probably should've when my crocs were blistering me (that or the blister relief stuff i bought... eh. im lazy. lol)
about shaving.... I usually try to shave Wednesday morning or something, but yeah at roo i just say EFF IT!! haha... no one is going to be looking my my legs/pits, and they are the farthest thing from my mind at 'roo... who cares about stubble when you're watching the flaming lips?!?
i am packing tomorrow... i did have to go out and buy some chafe stuff, I found this at walmart: dont know if it works, havent tried it yet.
i am rocking lots of dresses and skirts this year- shorts are way too hot imo. i bought a couple of cheapo bikini tops and painted on them with acrylic and glow-in-the-dark paint, those will be fun for latenight!
I bought the Lanacane, used it religiously and it worked like a charm!!! No chaffing whatsoever!!
And throwing my skirt up to reapply the Gold Bond in the middle of a field with hundreds of people just walking by - yeah, it was worth it.
My friends are always incredibly embarrassed when I do this, but you are right. Totally worth it!
Haha I had never ever needed Gold Bond before this year, but I guess because I was sweating so much it became a necessity. Luckily my hubby was working at Roo and had some in his car. My friend and I would totally just lift up our dresses and apply powder whenever needed. I'm sure people thought it was strange but I love that stuff!

Not so much "strange" as HILARIOUS! Me, and about 3 other girls literally pulled up our skirts and were applying in a little circle in the area in front of the vendors and ferris wheel - all with a handful of GB - and the looks on the faces of the people walking by were PRICELESS. This one guy was laughing and pointing, and Stephanie yells out, "Im comfortable with my decisions!!!" I about died.

That is still one of my favorite moments from this Roo.
And also I'd like to second what mayo mentioned about the nights being really warm this year! We talked about this at Roo, we were like "uhh we're going to need to explain this on the GFT or they will think we are insane." But yes, this year was a bit unusual in that sense. In past years I've been freeeezing overnight and this year I would just sleep on top of my sleeping bag in boy shorts and a t-shirt and only crawled into my sleeping bag maybe twice...and then ended up hot once I got in it.
We were all a bit amazed by how warm it stayed at night - I think we all just stayed in our dresses the entire time. All those tights and hoodies and stuff never got worn, my blanket just got used as a pillow, my sleeping bag was more mattress than sleeping bag, and my pajama pants basically just served as a decoration for my bag.
But for anyone who Rooed it up for the first time this year - please remember to pack all that stuff next time! I'm sure you felt like you were wasting space in your bag by packing all those warm clothes this year, but this year was really unusual in that respect. And it's so much better to use up some space in the bag and end up not needing the warm clothes rather than doing the opposite.
So, just as a side note, the texture of that Monistat Powder-Gel stuff is.... insane. I spent a good amount of time rubbing it around just because it felt so crazy. (then the dudes in my camp started talking about purchasing some when they got home for... recreational purposes >.<)

Yep all my jeans, hoodies and tees stayed in the bottom of my bag where I packed them lol. I stayed in my sun-dresses until 3 am and never once got even a little chilly...... That is not normal!!!

that is funny about what she said when she was using the gold bond. mannn i wouldnt think anything at all about seeing someone doing that.
i was wondering did you ever see anyone completely "washing up" at the wash stations. personally i wouldnt care. it no more nasty that my feet which i washed at the wash stations several times per day but i was just wondering. i mean.... a quick swipe under the skirt could save the awkward tent ritual i end up doing.
i put my monistat in my dresser now to be used as primer under my makeup...i feel roo is formally over when i do that
by the way... i did buy some baby ointment for diaper rash just in case i ran out of M and it also worked. not as matte as the M but it would work if you guys live in an area where you cant find the M easily.
so every time I sat down, I coated my feet (and the shoes) with gold bond.
Ah Gold Bond. ..."Im comfortable with my decisions!!!" I'll tell ya, i was rockin the Body Glide this Roo, but on the super hot days, I was re-applying until it just didnt work anymore. So I'd like to edit my "chaffing" suggestions - Gold Bond when its flaming hot during the day, and Body Glide when its not so hot at night. And throwing my skirt up to reapply the Gold Bond in the middle of a field with hundreds of people just walking by - yeah, it was worth it.
I had a bikini on under my dress so I didn't really mind hiking my dress up to toss on some Bodyglide & Gold Bond. Hell, there were times the heat got so bad I considered just stripping completely. But yeah, I have no problem flashing people if it means saving my thighs, etc. And the multiple trips to the mushroom fountain just meant I had to reapply a bit more often. I managed to escape Roo with minimal chafing though!
mannn no doubt about that. its sort of like with shoes...no waaaay am i going to risk a blister. i take my shoes OFF immediately if i feel a rub. although i run around all the time barefoot and the bottom of my foot is really tough , the top of my foot and my heel is really tender. i get rubbed really bad. does anyone know a way to toughen up the top part of the foot and the heel? i made it ok this year because i changed shoes a lot but its a problem when i hike etc.

You should grab yourself a pair of Vibrams. They make you feel at one with the earth when you hike and it feels just like you're walking barefoot while your feet are protected. And because they cling to your feet like a second skin there's no movement or friction from the shoe so no chafing/blistering. I've done 10 mile hikes in them and been perfectly fine. I wore mine at Roo and my feet felt invigorated. I had a lot of friends with blister issues but luckily it wasn't a problem for me. And if you're usually into walking around barefoot anyway then it'll feel completely natural to you.

I didn't see anyone else doing it, but I did it myself! It was waaaay too hot and I was waaaay to sweaty to neglect this area. I've found that a knee-length black dress is perfect for this - long and dark enough so no one can actually see anything.
wow thanks. i did ok at roo but i will surely consider them for hiking. how are they on rocks
I wear the KSOs which are one of the most versatile Vibrams. I do some rock climbing on large rocks and they do fine. I also walk on a lot small rocky surfaces on hiking trails. At first it feels weird and funky and slightly painful and you sorta wish you were wearing a shoe with a thick sole but after you grow more accustomed to it (which doesn't take long - 15 minutes of straight walking) it ends up feeling more like a massage. It's much like reflexology. The first time you get a reflexology treatment it's a bit painful and then it becomes heavenly. One of the reasons I like them so much though is that I can use them for most anything and don't have to change shoes. I can use them when I walk, kayak, rock climb, hike or do just about anything else. If you're worried about whether you'll truly like them or not then I'd purchase them at REI since they'll accept a return for store credit at any time. Try them out and if you don't like them you can always exchange them for a different pair of shoes.

Just thought I'd pimp out my sunscreen. I'm so impressed with it I had to share. Aveeno 100 SPF spray. It was hot enough for the sun to burn our clothes right off our bodies but that stuff held up like a champ. I didn't even get pink and I'm pretty fair skinned. I HATE the feeling of sunscreen so I barely even put any on and it worked like magic.
i love this thread! this was my first roo, and here is what i learned:
a) bike shorts are a must! i wore a short dress on saturday and not only did these shorts help me preserve my dignity, they also kept my sweaty thighs from rubbing together. i also fell asleep in them on saturday night.
b) that neutrogena spray-on sunscreen did not work. remember my "i'm indian--i don't burn"?! i burned! so did everyone else that used that as their primary sunscreen. next year, i'm gonna try the aveeno i've been hearing about!
c) the hat i got was the best thing in the world. it covered up my gross hair and looked adorbs!
d) i need to bring more resilient shoes. after this thread, i will probably invest in some tevas next year. also, i ruined a really great pair of sandals in the mud! it was dark, i couldn't see, it was hilarious.
e) the gold bond was a lifesaver, too, especially when my boyfriend got a gross heat rash all over his back! i used the powder on my thighs, on my underarms and in my hair, too. best. thing. ever.
i had so much fun, gals! despite the heat and sweat and LONG LINES, i had so so so so much fun. do you have any newly acquired roo-wisdom you'd care to share? i'd love to hear!
I will reiterate what Mayo and PP said: this year was hot but it's typically not this hot in June. So next year, I still suggest packing some pants and long-sleeved shirts! I'm a Tennessee native and used to the heat, but this year, it got hot earlier in the summer. The weather we are having now is usually what we have in late July/August; it's not typical of June. (and if anyone cares to know, it's just getting hotter! The forecast for today has a scorching 98 degree high)
Gold Bond is really my best friend at Roo.... and all during the summer, in fact. It has a variety of uses (such as putting on your feet to prevent blisters) and absorbs some of the sweat.
I honestly couldn't imagine doing Roo without dresses/skirts. Having a breeze up my skirt is soooo nice
Even though Roo has passed, Old Navy is having a 30% off the whole store sale starting on Thursday! It's in store and online.

I'm really surprised that happened with that sunscreen. Which SPF did you use? I used 30 and did not get burned and I was out in the sun a lot. The people with me used it with no issues also (for the 2nd year in a row). Did you guys re-apply often?

Weird about the sunscreen. I use that kind and it works great. I am ghost white too and burn after 5 minutes. I like that Aveeno is SPF 100 though! That rocks.
So any pics of the gals with their GFT pins? How did that go over? Did you pass a lot of them out?

My friend used the 100SPF Neutrogena (she is very pale) and didn't have any issues.
I got my GFT pin from mayo when I saw her at the brunch I wore it all weekend, along with my No Harm pin.
Well - I saw many pins at the brunch, and of course spent a ton of time with JHO and Pepper, so I saw theirs too. I only saw ONE "pin-in-a-crowd" and I zoomed in to take a picture of it bc i was a little far away to just DIVE through the crowd and say, "HEY GFT, GFT!" So then after I took the pic, I started working my way through the crowd, and by the time I got towards the mysterious backpack girl they had started leaving! We were waiting for Dead Weather I think... I will have to post the pic when I get home! I know it was one of you guys!!!!

I proudly sported one GFT button on my bag all weekend and added another one on my dress for brunch!
Also, I have a story to share with you girls about Sarah's "Do No Harm" buttons. I added mine to my bag along with the GFT button and the button I made last year for everyone in our campsite, so I had three roo buttons total. I've left them on my bag since then and haven't yet gotten around to switching back to the buttons I usually have there. Well, last weekend my boyfriend and I went geocaching and somehow in the process I lost my "Do No Harm" button. I have a tendency to check the buttons on my bag VERY often so when I realized I didn't have it I figured it must have fallen off pretty recently, so we backtracked a little trying to find it. When that didn't work we backtracked more and pretty much looked everywhere we'd been and still couldn't find it. So we gave up and left - somewhere in my huge collection of buttons I actually have another "Do No Harm" one that I got from Sarah last year at Roo, so it really wasn't a big deal to lose one.
Well, later that night my boyfriend emailed me two pictures from our geocaching adventure. In one of them I was proudly posing with the cache...and my "Do No Harm" button was clearly visible on my bag. So I pointed it out to him, thinking it was interesting that I'd been right about it falling off shortly before I noticed. If I still had it when we found the cache but didn't have it when we got back to the path, that left a relatively small area of ground it could have ended up in.
When I next saw my boyfriend two days later....he told me he'd gone back on his own to try to find my button! It's about a half hour drive each way to get there, and then the poor thing searched for about three hours...in the woods...in the dark. He still didn't manage to find it so I have no idea what happened to it. I feel so bad that he went to all that trouble for me!
Anyway, just wanted to share that story with you girls even though it's only marginally Roo-related, just 'cause it's so sweet. He's a keeper for sure!
