This is truth. I made two trips to meet co-workers from LC with generators and fuel. Not only is there no utilities. There's no anything.
Most people probably don't talk about it because they expect things to be bad after a Cat 4 hurricane. Particularly when it hits an area that's not as highly populated or not as touristy.
Most people outside the South can't name a city in Louisiana besides NOLA or BR.

People have also heard of Houma and Thibodaux, right? Those aren't exactly obscure cities. Also most people should have heard of Morgan City at this point. It's a small city, but it's not exactly obscure. IDK. When I was growing up, the 7 MSA's that had 100k people were New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria. Alexandria is drying up, but Houma and Thibodaux MSA is about 200k now.
And Grand Isle. Surely people have heard of Grand Isle, right?

Phoenix just had back to back months that set the record for hottest on record. In August it averaged 99.1 degrees, with an average high of 110.7. we had 50 days of 110+ in those two months; the previous record was 33. It never got below 90 at night half the time. We had 43 excessive heat warnings; the previous record was 25. We got 118 twice. My pool water is a steamy 98 degrees - and I built a giant awning that keeps it in shade for most of the day.
We haven't had our monsoons this year that typically cool things down, which is exacerbating our drought and getting us into a feedback loop. And people keep flooding in from California because housing is so much cheaper. Long term, Phoenix is facing some serious sustainability issues with respect to climate change and water.

Phoenix was never meant to have this many people living there. Or even half as many. It was unsustainable from levels years ago.
Sally is coming right the fuck at me now. We had that wicked orange hurricane sky this evening.
I love the it should only be a cat 1 and it's moving fast, to it's slowed down and is now predicted a cat 2 when it lands.
Looks like it lost some intensity overnight, should be a cat 1 at landfall. But when will landfall be? It was moving at 5mph yesterday evening, 3mph when I went to sleep, 2mph now. It's basically just sitting there.
10-15 in of rain predicted, possible 9 ft storm surge.
I don't live in an area prone to flooding, but this rain will be bad for a lot of Mobile. Feels a lot like what Harvey did to Houston.

What kind of snacks?
Little bags of chocolate chip cookies, plantain chips, tortilla chips, protein bars, bunch of bagels, these thin little cranberry cookies, bunch of golden crisp apples, bunch of oranges, 4 packages of reese's peanut butter cups and a loaf of homemade pound cake my sister brought over today.
Looks like Sally wants to make landfall in Pensacola now. This storm is crazy. The NE part of it is bad news, already messing up the panhandle. Still going to be bad for Mobile but maybe we won't get the worst of it.
