If the QB is in the shot gun and the snap is low and his knee touched the ground while catching said low snap, then play is dead. He catches ball when knee is touching ground, he can not throw a pass with knee down, play is dead, correct? Then can someone explain why the place holder, on a FG attempt, is able to pass the ball with knee touching ground?

Yes, also, the cheap nature of faking FGs and punts is the one thing I hate about college football.

Actually, I love the "fake", I enjoy that about college football, but only when executed with in the rules of the game. Was wondering if I am missing something?

It's a specific exception to the "knee being down" rule in college football to allow plays like this. I only know this from a previous LSU fake FG. But it's basically so you can do fake FGs because they are tons of fun to a neutral observer.

Because the place holder is in that position to begin with? He wasn't forced down and he didn't slip. Running the play for FGs or extra points requires him to be "down." So he's an exception to the dead ball rule to begin with.

Oh, you're not missing anything. As others have stated, it's just an exception to the usual rule for that play to be legal. To me it's not real football. I get that it's part of the game and all that but I have hated plays like that my whole life. Even when I was young, it just seemed cheap to me. Good game though for LSU. UF can't expect to beat a team with a stud running back like LSU when they are tackling that poorly, giving up 215+ rushing yards. It's all good, UF really won't drop that far from that loss and all we really care about is beating FSU

I didn't catch much of the game. Was Florida tackling poorly or is it one of those things where Fournette is playing at a ridiculous level right now and making everyone look silly?
Also, with Chubb out, expect the Heisman talk for Corey Coleman from Baylor to pick up. He has 16 receiving TDs through six games which has already set a Baylor school record for a season. The NCAA record is 27 in case you were curious.
Fake FG, I mean I have seen it done many of times and never really thought about the knee being down until tonight. NCAA needs to reevaluate this exception to the rule.
Dave, it was a little bit of both. Poor tackling and he's a beast.

Honestly, I was not expecting Gators to beat LSU before last week, so I am okay with the loss. Beating FSU is the only other request I have for this team, this year. They have far exceeded any expectations that I had at the beginning of the season and I am very pleased with where we are under Coach Mac!!
Sounds like I missed an exciting day in college football. Seems like the difference in the UF/Georgia game was a trick play. Like I said a few days ago, it wasn't a must win for Florida. Beat Georgia next week and they all but secure the SEC East. Encouraging though that they got behind by a few scores in Baton Rouge and came-back from it in Treon first start of the season.
The only thing I missed was the bonehead Michigan loss. Unfortunately for 8 pts. I sit in 4th place.
I looked at the rankings for the week. I'm third behind two people who missed two games but it was their one and two point games whereas Michigan was my four. Damn confidence points.
I hope we can get by this trap game noon game at Miami next week. Miami is talented enough to beat us if we're sleeping. After that @ NC St on Halloween which they'll probably make a night game because that is a tough place to play. Then it's on, FSU at home.

FSU @ Clemson is November 7? I assume that will be the ABC 8pm game. That probably means Notre Dame at Pitt is a 3:30 game that day.

Yea, LSU-Bama is also that day. So I'm guessing we won't get Game Day again.
