Yeah I saw them in NYC the other night. It wasn't quite as good as the two shows I saw in 2012, but still really good. I feel like they're gearing up to play stadiums. It just felt like that kind of "big production" show

The opener was pretty good too, highasakite did they open in NYC too?

Sooo I was scrolling through my iTunes when I got to First Aid Kit, then I noticed that right above them is Field Report, then right above them is The Felice Brothers. If this pattern keeps up Father John Misty should be added soon! (Then shortly after, Fat Boy Slim...)
I've been listening to Highasakite's version of Heavenly Father and Tallest Man on Earth's Dark Bird is Home on repeat for the week. Two incredibly beautiful songs. The Tallest Man song is perfection.

Of Monsters and Men in Camden, NJ yesterday. Pretty good! Hozier performed as well-- nothing near his performance at Newport last year. I think I need to see him on a Sunday morning in the rain... with a respectful, silent crowd everytime!
Ok.. longtime lurker. Been loving the discourse here about NFF. This will be my third consecutive year and I plan on doing it RIGHT this time. I am going to Italy this week and won't be back until 5/21. My concern is that I'm going to miss the Newport Blues Deer tick announcement. You guys have any inside info on when that'll be? Thanks! And in case your wondering my plan is Thurs night: watkins, friday: deer tick, sat: heartbreaker
hey JMurph - good to meet you. Sounds like you are indeed doing it right (I would add Sunday: deer tick just to cap the weekend :-) )
last year they announced the deer tick shows on 5/27, with tickets on sale at the end of the week, so hopefully you will be ok.
ps. the aftershow ticket sales were super-easy for me, not the struggle I expected.
Haha thanks for the info! Sounds like I will be in the clear.. Yea I'm considering capping off with Deer Tick on Sunday as well.. haha.. but haven't made up my mind. It gets pretty rowdy in there and I may be pretty exhausted at that point... we shall see!
I almost hope there are no Deer Tick latenights, being so close to them and not there would make me cry, but I really want to try to be more social this year.

Yea, haha. I planned on skipping them this year. Only one I'd try for is Sunday night if Felice are there (and I would be heading home that time anyway so can't be social if I wasn't going anyway).
I'm sure they'll be great as always but there's always next year.
Literally what I was about to say exactly! Probably it's just the order they're announcing things, but in terms of "big names" Saturday seems miles ahead of the others right now. Decemberists, Sufjan, Isbell...
I expect it will at least somewhat even out as they announce the other headliners of course.
I'm surprised they aren't giving Friday more attention seeing as how it's the only day not sold out. Saturday has 4 more announcements than Friday and 5 more than Sunday
Jason is billed above Sufjan. That doesn't seem quite right
Sounds about right to me. I think Isbell is one of the best songwriters going today and is finally getting the recognition he deserves with the last album

Yeah I definitely think he has more than enough talent to deserve that spot. I just figured Sufjan is considered more popular, but I guess I was wrong.
I'm crazy happy for Jason and what Southeastern has done for him. It's been a very long-term thing too. I lost track of him after he left DBT. Then Southeastern started popping up on "Best of 2013" lists so I started listening to him again. Less than a year ago he was opening for Ray LaMontagne and now he's close to the same level

He's below Sufjan now fyi. Which makes way more sense.

You guys do realize that the order isn't by stage, it's kind of mixed in there, it's possible that sufjan could be headlining the quad

Yeah, it's ordered by what they consider the "bigger" act, which is why it'd be interesting if they considered Isbell "bigger" than Sufjan (which they don't). Of course a million other things factor into where someone is listed, not least how well their booking agent can negotiate for a better placement.
Like last year for Friday they had Ryan Adams, band of horses , jimmy cliff, Jenny Lewis. In that order from the top , jimmy cliff played the quad and Jenny Lewis played the fort
