Also, Tallest Man on Earth is listed above Sufjan on the lineup. Now I know NFF is smoking something. And I guess it means he could be a headliner...
Definitely smoking something. IHEG has booked both recently. I saw Sufjan a weeks ago at the Busnell and will be seeing TMOE next week at the Calvin. I don't know seats, but the Bushnell is certainly bigger.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Hey folks, first timer here for NFF. I was hoping somebody could shed come light on the night shows. What can we expect? What venues do shows take place at? Are there shows each night? I understand Wilco played a night show a couple of years back. Is it common to have a band of their caliber play a night show or was that a one off? An insight would helpful. Thanks!
Also, y'all didn't hear this from me, but I've got a very good source who told me something may be a wee bit different about the Deer Tick after shows this year. But I'm forbidden to tell yous guys more. If it is true I'll be like "YEAH! I KNEW THAT! HA!" Sorry for the tease...
Deer Tick after shows. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

So that's the big announcement? Don't get me wrong I love that there's another night of Deer Tick. But do you know more that you can't tell yet?

Hey, I never mentioned a "big announcement". I just said it may be "a wee bit different". I wish I knew more, but that's all I know. Four nights at the Blues Cafe.

I saw Arlo Guthrie just announced a big 50th anniversary of "Alice's Restaurant" tour. He wouldn't have been my first guess as the artists seems to skew younger/hipper these days, but who knows? He's free for a couple weeks around Newport. Saw him live once in college, and he put on a pretty fun show.

Tommy Stinson played with Deer Tick at Brooklyn Bowl for at least one night during their New Year's Eve run. If he's in town the night before I'd say he's a good bet for Newport Blues Cafe.

I'm not quite sure what the Artist budget is per year, but I don't see a Jack White $$$ level announcement yet. I know his fee is pretty high. Maybe we'll see James Taylor as the final announcement?

Saw Hozier said some nice things about Newport in an interview last week. He's got then fest in Canada that Friday, but still free til his tour picks up in Pittsburgh on the 28th.
"You’ve had an amazing year—you had SNL, played at the Grammys with Annie Lennox, and were nominated for a Grammy as well. Any personal highlights for you? It’s all been so great. The Grammy show was an amazing highlight for sure and SNL as well. When I think back though, playing Newport Folk Festival last year was a big moment for me. You sometimes get these moments when you’re able to see a level of support that you haven’t seen before. That show was one of those moments for me. When it happens, it just kind of shocks you."
I didn't even remember Hozier being on the lineup last year.
Looked it up, Harbor Stage on Sunday mid-afternoon. Certainly wouldn't happen again.
And we were so there. Hozier was doing some serious nervous pacing out back behind the tent a few feet from us before the show. Glad he got to feel the love.
