It's like anything else. We're least tolerant of people who display what we consider our own weaknesses. Look at Larry Craig. Look at Mark Foley. Look at generations of Catholic priests (not all, obviously, but more than, oh say, Methodist dentists). The list goes on and on. The people who are most vocal about their opposition to homosexuality are the ones who are mostly likely to get caught with their hands in the pickle jar. (Clumsy simile, I know, but I'm drunk.) There's never anything brave or upstanding about saying that some other group deserves fewer rights than you. And anyone who espouses bigotry with the excuse that it's what GOD wants is either a summers breeze in a sac or a douchebag's puppet.
This is why I am just waiting for Tim Tebow to step out of the closet and bridge the 50's with today. Maybe he will be the savior after all, for all the people still living in the stone age.
I am saying, going by what I quoted by billypilgrim, that I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Tebow came out of the closet. Have you seen his post-game interviews? Maybe if that happened all the backwards religious types would be convinced otherwise.

Oh, hey, found this in the "blatant hypocrisy practiced by people of faith" section of the library. Enjoy.
Dear Dr. Laura,
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's law. I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend homosexuality, for example, I will simply remind him or her that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other laws in Leviticus and Exodus and how to best follow them.
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Leviticus 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as stated in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Leviticus 15:19-24). The problem is, how can I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
Leviticus 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify?
I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
A friend of mine says that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Leviticus 10:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
Leviticus 20:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's Word is eternal and unchanging.

Who else loves the American version of la cage aux folles? Ya know, the Birdcage, with Robin Williams?
That film is stinking hilarious! Everyone should see it and maybe the uptight anti-gay haters should go have some fun? Live a little?
The character Senator Kevin Keely (plays the bigot who is up for re-election): "Louise, people in this country aren't interested in details. They don't even trust details. The only thing they trust is headlines."
All the Chick-fil-a CEO wants are these headlines- not the details- of the debate. We always have to be the ones to make the informed decisions, not follow the headlines, dig deeper for the truth.

Ok, one more quote from the film: Armand (the main character): "Yes, I wear foundation. Yes, I live with a man. Yes, I'm a middle- aged a burning bundle of sticks. But I know who I am, Val. It took me twenty years to get here, and I'm not gonna let some idiot senator destroy that. quack the senator, I don't give a damn what he thinks."
If ya haven't seen the movie, you have to! Even you kiko, give it a chance. If ya don't laugh, than I can't help you. It doesn't have to make you change your mind, but it should at least make you smile and think a little.
LOL- the filter changed a word that rhymes with "lag" to "burning bundle of sticks"!

Eh? It wasn't meant to be a joke. Someone mentioned how often those most opposed to something are hiding something or are that themselves. I was saying wouldn't it be ironic (and I wouldn't be too surprised) if Tom Tebow was gay himself, just from seeing some of his post-game interviews. And I thought for all the people that nearly worship Tebow, maybe it would make them think twice about things. Probably not, though.

Oh, so just some more narrow-minded commentary for inforoo's resident homophobe. My bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard any sort of anti-gay stance from Teblow. Given his religiosity, it's probably fair to infer, but he seems to be such a genuinely kind person that I'm not certain he is anti-gay. Don't get me wrong, since he is a former Gator I'm obligated to hate the guy from a football standpoint, but he really does seem to try treat people in a Christ-like manner. If there is some anti-gay rhetoric from him out there that I do not know of, then egg on my face.
Don't you live in the South also? I work with a bunch of people like Kiko....
Haha. I was thinking the same thing when I read that. Maybe Atlanta is more different than I realized.
My friend Sherry and I had a "discussion" about this whole issue with another friend at work that ended up with her storming out of my office. During the conversation, which I said I wanted to end 3 times because I knew it would not end well, she asked, do you really think I am a bigot for my beliefs and we both said yes we do...... Needless to say she was offended..... I refuse to apologize.

As Lono stated on facebook somewhere, I am Switzerland on this topic in public. I have an opinion, and I have talked to Abra about it, but it seems that bringing it up in public ends in hurt feelings.

Yep. I tried to end the conversation a few times, but she kept going. And she KNOWS that we are both very liberal, so to ask us that question and be surprised at the answer, just blows my mind.

People should be protesting/picketing outside of the CEO's house....not the individual stores that are run by people who may not share the same beliefs as the CEO. This whole thing is just silly.
Unnatural - our human parts and intimate relationships are made for procreation. Using these things for other purposes is going against nature, ie unnatural.
This one time I saw a monkey masturbate right in front of me. It was horrible. I was very offended and tried to tell him about the message of Christ.
Immoral - it is abusing one's body for unnatural and sinful desires. It leads to much higher incidence rates of STDs, AIDS, depression, suicide, et cetera. It is harmful to society and oneself, both physically and mentally, to make this point simple.
I invoke Poe's Law. "The fact that without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between sincere extremism and an exaggerated parody of extremism."
30-40 years from now, our nation will be looking back at the same-sex marriage debate with the same amount of embarrassment that we have when discussing our treatment of Native Americans, African Americans, Japanese Americans, and Women.
Agreed. Our generations' children and grandchildren will cringe when they hear their grandparents use words like "gay"
Dude. Hey...I'm am not homophobic at all and I describe things as "gay" all the time. I'm not saying those things are homosexual, I'm just saying they're like...you know, like limp wristed and stuff.
EDIT: damnit only posted the last half of my post.

Dude....
I'm not racist, I just drop N-bombs whenever I please.
You can "drop N-bombs" when discussing the historical context of the word or in a discussion of race. If a history professor does a lesson on the word and it's power and all that and actually says the word I wouldn't think of him as racist.
That said, I try not to use the word "Gay" to describe things I find "lame" or whatever. I definitely used to do it more often when I was younger, like "Oh man...that movie looks so gay". But a few years ago I made a conscious effort to try and not do that anymore and just use the word "lame". Even if I don't intend the word to be taken a certain way that doesn't mean everyone knows what I mean.
