Geez, I figured there would be some political minds here or at least some debaters. Someone just lock this up, nothing of substance coming from this.
that note, I am also a huge fan of Pepper Fire. It's right near my hood and allows you to avoid the ridiculous wait time at Prince's. I still haven't tried Bolton's.

I will have to say, if nothing else, this whole debate has reminded me why I went into Sociology in undergrad. Fascinating stuff this group behavior is.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

We must live in the same hood.
Could be. I'm technically much closer to Bolton's so I really need to try it. I'm in Edgefield on Russell Street, crawling distance from the bars around 5 Points. Slug life!

That is very true. It seems it just caught on, went viral, and became a mob mentality before you knew it. The internet certainly exacerbates this to a whole new level.
I like Chic fil a, their chicken is quiet tasty. I don't agree with the CEO's opinion, but I also think people protesting infront of chick fil a need to get a hobby. It's not like the CEO is refusing to serve homosexuals, I could understand protesting for that reason. The CEO is just voicing his warped opinion, which should have been obvious already , knowing that chickfila is closed on sunday.
If you want to boycott, boycott. But protesting and trying to block chickfila from opening restaurants (that provide jobs, shitty jobs, but jobs none the less), that doesn't make much sense to me.

Also, many managers of individual stores are being unfairly affected by this. Some have come out and said they aren't homophobic/anti-gay marriage and they disagree with the CEO's opinion but they still have people picketing and protesting. They speak kindly to the protesters and offer them drinks.
Boycott makes sense to me. Protesting outside a store in this instance isn't really going to do much to help IMO.

I don't think protesting is the way to go in any situation.
Really? Protesting has helped plenty of movements in the past. Worker's rights, civil rights, etc.
I don't think this situation it's right to protest but in certain circumstances I feel it's more than necessary. Protesting is one of the reasons women have the right to vote....so would you be against those protests? Just curious.

I believe some can be productive. People used to protest at my college with pamphlets, instead of signs and yelling. This actually gave people information, rather than soundbites of histrionic slogans. Then I joined the group and realized all they did was protest, rather than go to the school board and show them a realistic budget of what they wanted. Many of these groups do not know how to work a system or are pragmatic, but at least some can be informative, rather than inflammatory. I'm quite sure most of what is happening with chick-fil-a is inflammatory.
I try to stay out of these conversations because I have very little knowledge- past or present- about anything political (I shouldn't have just posted that, ITM). All I know is the I am SUPER passive. I would probably cry before picking up a pole and seeing people protest makes me anxious no matter whether if I agree with the situation or not.
And my lack of knowledge really makes my opinion void. I couldn't follow your statement with, "No! It wasn't the protesting that got this to work, it still would have happened because of x, y, z." Can I reword the other post to say, "Protesting gives me heart pains"?

While admittedly protesting played an important role in various movements in the history of the United States, the activity does not appear to accomplish anything in 2012. I personally think that protesting is simply over-saturated in the U.S. in modern times, and has been used for so many trivial purposes (case in point, Chick-fil-A) that the act has lost nearly all effectiveness. Obviously something was accomplished with protesting in various middle Eastern countries about a year ago, so, to me, the ineffectiveness of protest is primarily a modern problem in the U.S.
This is simply my opinion, and I certainly welcome examples of effective modern protest in the U.S. Please do not say the Occupy movement.

Or perhaps, with the constraints and demands of surviving, let alone thriving in the good ole US of A in 2012, most people don't have the time or energy to protest?? You won't find me on a picket line or out verbally boycotting/protesting. At this point, I do that with my wallet or my vote.
I'm not a chicken person (a childhood of chicken 6 days a week to thank for that), so I wouldn't patronize them to begin with, but I definitely won't be now. If the stance of the patriarchal CEO bothers you, stop eating there. Protests end, but my experience in business tells me that lost customers generally don't come back.
