They got it all, the twang, the blues, the soul, and an unbelievable singer to tie it all together. One of my most anticipated sets and I am actually excited to see a band like that on thursday before the bum rush.
Thursdays are always some of the most consistent days. Bands that still have something to prove are the ones that take advantage of big festival sets the best

Just listened to Alabama Shakes for the first time, definitely talented but feel what they're doing isn't really all that special. For me, this is territory that has been done over so many times at this point that it just seems too well-worn and safe.
Thursday does seem to get more and more crowded every year. I wish they'd open up the Which stage Thursday. We don't need a typical Which stage type band, just someone fairly big enough to disperse the crowd a little better.

sorry, only pascal is qualified to make those determinations.
i actually agree though. i'll be at this show because it'll be fun (barring a joy formidable conflict or something) but i feel bands like this bubble up every 2-3 years and then disappear. i thought FOR SURE Catfish Haven was gonna be the next big thing a few years ago and they disappeared. just hard to get excited about the genre really....

What? Well constructed opinions?
Why are you willing to respond to this guy's thoughts with a civil comment, but when I say the same thing about Black Box Revelation, you all jump down my throat?

People always joke about a Thursday headliner, but if they plan on opening a day early every year I say put somebody on the Which Stage. I stood in a crowd at Sleigh Bells last year, but I sure didn't see Sleigh Bells.

It always seemed so strange to me they didn't put someone on the Which. Every year I think this will be the year..

I've been hearing nothing but great things about them live. That's one factor that really has me excited to see them.

Probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me at Bonnaroo... Couldn't hear or see annnnnnnnnyyyyything.

I agree, solid additions this year, can't wait for Danzig. The only add I don't really understand is Black Box Revelation. They just seem like incredibly generic garage alterna-rock. I mean, haven't The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, Jay Reatard, The Black Lips, and The Black Keys already sort of fleshed out the whole genre?
Believe me, I'm content with the adds we have. But I was just curious if there was something I was missing with these guys?
I don't know, I don't really find this offensive at all.
The only thing I could see making people upset is that you're saying they shouldn't have been added at all. Just seems random. So many acts playing Bonnaroo are copies of copies of other acts that were "first." That's kind of how music is. Some bands do it better than others, Black Keys from Junior Kimbrough, Radiohead from Talking Heads/The Smiths, White Stripes from The Stooges are just a few examples.

Thank you for actually responding. Although I never even implied that they shouldn't have been added
I get the whole genealogy of music thing, I just get a bit rustled when I feel like bands aren't contributing anything new. But I suppose people enjoy them and that's all that matters and what not.
Yeah, I honestly don't get it. Pascal puts together well-thought out, articulate opinions and gets trashed because they don't seem to vibe with what people on here think. No crime there, I'm with him. Black Box Revelation doesn't do anything particularly exciting, and they're not as good as Black Box.
I was a big fan of Box myself. Not as good as Can though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with these feelings. I just don't get what is so great about them. I do agree with ITM though, I have heard many great live reviews of them and that is the only reason I'll be there (barring a Danny Brown conflict) but their music doesn't sound like anything that special to me.

I don't know about ya'll, but all of a sudden, I've gotten really excited/impatient with the upcoming cafe acts. Some of my favorite shows have been in the cafe (Gary Clark Jr./Walk The Moon/Kopecky Family Band/Uncle Skeleton/Devil Makes Three/Dirty Sweet/Dan Dyer/Turbine/Russian Circles/The Giraffes/The Heavy Pets/Imelda May/The Bridge/Paper Tongues/Jonathan Tyler & The North Lights/Tamarama/Supagroup - hell, the list goes on). I can't wait to listen this group of artists and realize my conflicts are going to be way worse than I originally imagined when the initial lineup dropped.
I'd love to see Shpongle added but I doubt they would be added now. They are doing some pretty heavy touring with the masquerade and I think if they were planning on coming back to the farm they would have been in the initial announcement.

I'm pretty excited for these acts. As I've said before, I'm really hoping The Lumineers, Joe Pug, Milk Carton Kids, and the Belle Brigade are part of the announcement (would also hope for Elephant Revival, but their tour schedule does not make a trip to TN over Bonnaroo weekend look feasible)
Either way, there should be at least one or two more acts that I'll want to see in the set of cafe acts. It should help flesh out some of my days, and really make sure I don't have much down time.
