So you're saying if someone saw that Neil Young was on the lineup again in a different form, they still wouldn't go because he just played the year before, albeit different songs and totally different band. Makes sense. I could see how people don't want to see Neil Young with the Crazy Horse or if they did another rendition of Crosby Stills Nash & Young. Nah, nobody wants to see that.

This is madness! For the sake of my sanity, COME BACK NOW INSIDER! Just tell us something. Anything to calm the nerves of those who are not the least bit excited by RHCP. Radiohead? NY? Prince? Some nice surprise (I dreamt of Bowie the other night...)? Even a 2nd line name that people could get behind...

Look at the amount of crying and hand-wringing going on in here concerning Red Hot Chili Peppers! If I didn't know any better, I would think we were getting Kings of Leon again, Lady GaGa, or somesuch other trash. I wonder if the general Bonnaroo-going public shares your distress or if you guys are just a really loud minority? One question for all of you so upset about this: have you listened to the new Chili Peppers record, or did you automatically just write them off as soon as you heard John was out of the band?

I did, and thats the issue. I have no problem with older RHCP. I hate the set lists Ive been seeing and its sad that of all their wonderful catalogue we're likely to hear this Monarchy of Roses crap.
Second on Gaga. It would, if nothing else, be a much more entertaining live show.

Guys, the Raconteurs aren't gonna be there because the Dead Weather was there just two years ago. Come on (re: the Neil Young/Buffalo Springfield thing).
I, too, would rather see Gaga than the Chili Peppers at this point in time. Gaga's show would be batshit fucking crazy and probably awesome.

I wrote the Chili Peppers off around 1994.
And it might be the minority who are complaining, but the "majority" is full of idiots.
Finally, I'd take Lady Gaga over RHCP any day of the week at this point in their respective careers.
The majority pays the bills, and they want to see RHCP. They put out plenty of good albums post 94
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
I can see insider enjoying the insanity on here. She said she was surprised how early on we were discussing this year's headliners. She probably doesn't feel the need to tell us much more.
I'm sticking with Radiohead, RHCP and Phish. Because it has to be! I would even put money on RHCP being the last of the three to sign on.

Guys, there is no chance that Allman Brothers will be there for at least 3 years. Greg Allman & Warren Haynes Band last year, Gov't Mule in '09, and Derek Trucks in '08.
I think part of the problem might be that Roo fans are frustrated/jealous that Coachella consistently books better headliners. Check out the "competition" the last 5 years:
2011 - Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Kanye West VS Eminem, Arcade Fire, Widespread panic 2010 - Jay-Z, Muse, Gorillaz VS Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon 2009 - Paul McCartney, The Killers, the Cure VS Bruce Springsteen, Phish, Beastie Boys/David Byrne 2008 - Jack Johnson, Portishead, Roger Waters VS Pearl Jam, Metallica, Jack Johnson 2007 - Bjork, RHCP, RATM VS The Police, Tool, Widespread Panic 2006 - Depeche Mode, Tool VS Radiohead, Tom Petty, Phil Lesh
The majority pays the bills, and they want to see RHCP. They put out plenty of good albums post 94
The "majority" won't be there for RHCP. There will be bands billed way below RHCP with the same drawing power and ticket-selling impact as those decrepit, crusty geriatrics.
I love me some Neil Young, and I get that his catalogue is way more expansive than the music Buffalo Springfield put out. The point I was trying to make is that Bonnaroo changes it up every year, not just because they have to do so to compete with the other festivals and to keep it interesting, but I'm sure the big men in charge don't wanna see the same big names/headliners year after year. Like us, the guys that run this thing are huge fans of music, and live music, but they're also businessmen and they gotta do what they gotta do to sell tickets. The same headliners/big names two years in a row might sell tickets, but when people have the options of all these other festivals, assuming they went to Bonnaroo last year, do you think they're gonna go back to a place with some of the biggest names returning? I guess they could, depends on what bands they like, location, the festival atmosphere, etc, but when you look at ticket buyers as a whole, you gotta expect they're gonna go somewhere different.
That's not what I'm saying at all. Personally, I would love to see Neil back in any form, and I'm sure most of the people that post on here would. But people like us here on Inforoo aren't in the majority of those who go to Bonnaroo, who tend to be more casual fans of music. The selling point is the biggest names, and I think if those casual music fans that make up the majority had a chance to see Neil Young and the Black Keys again versus whatever Coachella, Lolla, ACL or some other festival puts out, they're gonna go with another festival because they want to see something different.
Top 6 from previous 6 years:
2011 - Eminem, Arcade Fire, Panic, Black Keys, Buffalo Springfield, My Morning Jacket
2010 - DMB, Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Tenacious D, Weezer
2009 - The Boss, Phish, Beastie Boys, NIN, David Byrne, Wilco
2008 - Pearl Jam, Metallica, Jack Johnson, Panic, Kanye, Robert Plant (not counting Chris Rock who came before Plant)
2007 - Police, Tool, Panic, White Stripes, Ben Harper, Wilco
2006 - Radiohead, Tom Petty, Phil Lesh, Elvis Costello, Beck, Oysterhead
The only ones that repeat are Panic and Wilco. Again, because Panic is a jamband, that's a different scenario than someone more mainstream or classic. My thoughts as to why they book a jamband on Sunday night is, not just because a noticeable amount of people have started leaving by that time and just aren't into those kinds of bands, but I think they might do it also to start getting people out of there, to sort of ease the traffic flow late Sunday night/early Monday morning.
is everyone on here being serious about wanting to see Lady Gaga?
Compared to RHCP, yes. And maybe not even just in comparison. I hear she puts on a crazy show. And if Bonnaroo must book atleast one big pop name I rather have it be her than most acts of that stature that I can think of.

2006 is a blowout in Roo's favor.
2007 is a wash.
2008 is a wash.
2009 is debatable (I'd prefer Coach).
In 2010 Jay-Z was at Roo, just not a headliner. Lawyered.
Last year Kanye pushes Coach past.
Not exactly a curb-stomping by Coachella when it comes to headliners.

Don't see Neil Young & Crazy Horse on there once...I guess there's hope!

Once again natedogg, the point is that Buffalo Springfield does not = Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
Also, you brought up the majority of festival goers as being more casual music fans. If NY & CH play this year (don't think they will but this is hypothetical), I can almost guarantee a large percentage of Bonnaroo goers wouldn't say to themselves "Wait a minute, didn't Neil Young play last year?"
The majority pays the bills, and they want to see RHCP. They put out plenty of good albums post 94

Unless u r strictly speaking about the headliners. Then maybe they got us last year on that note. Thought we killed em in 09, then they returned the favor in 2010. Last year was very close overall, Buffalo Springfield pushed me to Roo.

No. 2010 is Coach. 2011 was Roo. Otherwise I agree.
Really?
In '11 AF was shared, Kanye > Em, Widespread = KOL (or close to it).
In '10 Coach had Jay-Z, who was 4th for Roo. But basically that Stevie set was one of (if not THE) best sets I've ever seen. So it elevates that Roo higher than it's ranked for most other fans. You're probably right, but I can't be unbiased for that year, I guess.

The fact theres no Tennessee date definitely helps, but that might be because he hit Nashville or Memphis on his run last August. I'm at work so I can't check that.
