the Keys definitely don't have a big enough sound to rock the mainstage the way it's supposed to be. maybe if they have a full band...
Big enough sound? Seriously?
I agree it sort of looks funny when they're up there and about 50 feet away from each other to fill out the stage better, but the sound was not lacking at their set last year, just a couple more songs to make it longer than it ended up being.

i don't know man, i was there too and was pretty disappointed. maybe i was just really excited for buffalo springfield, but i really expected a much louder and more raucous show. didn't help that dan auerbach looked like a douche with his hair jelled up. sorry, i won't say anything else against them because i generally like them
Fri - The Killers > Foster The People Sat - Red Hot Chili Peppers > Radiohead (keep hope alive!) Sun - Phish
What a bizarre Friday. In that scenario, I think they break up RHCP and Radiohead. Plus, Foster the People would Pre-HL for The Killers. I would be surprised if Pumped Up Kicks isn't closing a tent (Florence's spot), or are on the Which.

Where were you watching the show from? Because I was pretty much leaning on the rail on the left side of the stage behind the pit and my ears were ringing.

I don't know why everyone is so down on Radiohead. I still think they'll be there. We can't have two headliners that begin with R? Is this some unknown Roo rule?
If it is Radiohead and RHCP (I'm still blindly hoping no even though I know its inevitable), then Black Keys are out. They could only do Friday HL this year. Saturday pre-HL and HL are out for them.
I still don't see The Killers. I see them in 2013 after their albums likely drops in the late summer/early fall, similar to AF when Suburbs came out in August 2010 and they played last year. Same with Muse.

i was probably a little more than halfway back. i'm sure that contributed to my listening experience; the crowd was pretty fuckin huge from what i remember

during sleep and activities of life have i missed something that puts the Chili peppers on Saturday? If they're in Louisville on Thursday, i'd think they could do Roo on Friday

They've talked about this a few times now, but if you look at their tour dates, they never play three nights in a row. Since they have shows on June 6th and 7th, people are expecting them to play Saturday.
I can't see Foster the People in that spot. Personally I think they suck but I get that people like them. I see them more in the same spot as Neon Trees last year. One pop song on the radio that blew up and a bunch of other mediocre songs at best. I just can't imagine using them to lead into a headliner.
But hey, what do I know. I'm new at all this stuff.

I said previously in this thread that I can't see them getting a spot better than Florence ATM got last year, meaning, the #1 tent spot of the weekend.

oh yeah i forgot i pushed that to the back corner of my mind to leave room for a Radiohead Saturday
Not sure about Radiohead, but the Black Keys and Neil Young will not be there. Two of the top names from last year would not be back two years in a row, or in the Black Keys case, three. I know the Black Keys weren't a top name in 2010, and that it was Buffalo Springfield that played last year, but that's just not how Bonnaroo works. You can argue about the rotation of jammy headliners and bands on the undercard, but that's a different scenario. Would Arcade Fire, Eminem, Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, Kanye West, Metallica, Pearl Jam or Tool be back as headliners (or even big names) in the next couple/few years? Most likely not. Phish or Dave Matthews? Much more likely. Radiohead? Possibly. I mean it's been six years since they last played, not that non-Sunday headliners have to wait six years, but even the case of Radiohead is different than having someone like Kings of Leon, Metallica or Tool back. You could probably even throw Pearl Jam into that category with Radiohead, but I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for them to return. And as far as artists like Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty go, there's just other classic artists to go after.

RHCP are just a Saturday band to begin with, regardless of the 3-dates-in-a-row thing. People need to accept this. They are a huge draw for the mainstream audience, and they are definitely "classic" enough, especially compared to Eminem and Pearl Jam.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse completly different band than Buffalo Springfield, sure both have Neil. But, Buffalo only did one non Springfield song. And Neil is a classic as Stevie, Bruce and Tom. Unless you just don't like NY no one would be unhappy if he is there.

I love me some Neil Young, and I get that his catalogue is way more expansive than the music Buffalo Springfield put out. The point I was trying to make is that Bonnaroo changes it up every year, not just because they have to do so to compete with the other festivals and to keep it interesting, but I'm sure the big men in charge don't wanna see the same big names/headliners year after year. Like us, the guys that run this thing are huge fans of music, and live music, but they're also businessmen and they gotta do what they gotta do to sell tickets. The same headliners/big names two years in a row might sell tickets, but when people have the options of all these other festivals, assuming they went to Bonnaroo last year, do you think they're gonna go back to a place with some of the biggest names returning? I guess they could, depends on what bands they like, location, the festival atmosphere, etc, but when you look at ticket buyers as a whole, you gotta expect they're gonna go somewhere different. They just gotta keep it fresh and keep evolving.

Um, not quite. Buffalo Springfield weren't headliners last year. Nor was The Black Keys. Either could be brought back as a headliner this year given the jump up in status on the billing.
And like ITM said, BS is not the same thing as NY&CH.

So you're saying if someone saw that Neil Young was on the lineup again in a different form, they still wouldn't go because he just played the year before, albeit different songs and totally different band. Makes sense. I could see how people don't want to see Neil Young with the Crazy Horse or if they did another rendition of Crosby Stills Nash & Young. Nah, nobody wants to see that.
