It's the difference between paying for VIP or going GA. Everything in this world has a pricetag on it.
No, it's not. VIP is an option offered by Roo, one that doesn't affect anyone else at the festival. I didn't see anything about 20 dollar front of the pit passes on the website...
The biggest issue to me is the fact that since he payed, someone didn't get the spot they waited for, and someone else didn't even make it into the pit. Buying VIP has no such consequences on anyone else's good time.

But even you know this isn't right. Buying your way into "the pit" is the same as paying scalpers to get into a sold out show.
What's wrong with that? Scalpers aren't fans fault. If bands took precautions to assure that tickets went to fans and not scalpers, then it wouldn't be a problem.
True story that pertains to this issue. But it's long.
Many years ago, when no one had heard of Blue Man Group, we wanted to see their show in New York. Little dump of a place in the village, or close to it. Shows were sold out. (someone must have heard of them I guess) They told us we could wait in line for the midnight show and see if some tickets became available. So we went to Tower records, and bought some crap to read.
We were second in line behind a cute German kid. He had tickets but needed more for friends and was holding their place in line. We had 4 hours to wait. We had a blast. Got to hear the first show. Watch them come out. Watch the Blue Men kiss their programs. German kid wanted to party with friends, so he left us his tickets and a wad of cash to hold his place in line. We met a bunch of fun people. German kid comes back and is amazed we are still there with his stuff. We wound up getting 4th row seats and needed rain coats.
Moral of the story. Sometimes it's more fun in line.
I'll admit it is a shady kinda assholish thing to do.. Well I'm kind of a shady a-hole. Whatever. I did it the year before for Stevie and Jay Z, I did it last year for Keys/Em, I'm going to do it again this year if I can get away with it. I know it's not fair to other people, but I don't really see why I am obliged to be fair to other people. My actions aren't out of line and what other people don't know won't hurt them... Well I guess now you know and it hurts you if you waited in line, sorry I guess? Black Keys and Em were awesome, here's an emoticon of a mouse <:3)~.

Don't blame gambit, it was a smart move by him to realize the security guard could be bought. Blame the security guard. For the people who waited and didn't get in, sucks for them. Life isn't fair.

ughughugh.
If you, or anyone else that's supporting your decision ever makes some remark about the "magic" or the "vibe" of the festival getting worse over the years, I'm just going to throw up on you.
So you know you're screwing over other people, but you're totally ok with it because it helps you?
I don't mean to get all hippie sentimental (something I rarely do), but this isn't the real world, this is Bonnaroo, show some goddang respect for your fellow Roo'er, and we'll all benefit in the long run. Karma bitches.
I know it will never happen, I'm just being honest with myself. I doubt i'll ever wanna be in the pit for any headliner, I like the lawn more. I'm not morally perfect, but thats not front page news.
I like scalpers because they're pieces of shitfuck. And when it's two minutes before bands start playing they're much more likely to accept my outrageously low offers for their tainted goods. Saw Arctic Monkeys two months ago, 20 bucks for two tickets just because we waited until the pissant was sweating.
Screwing over scalpers since 2008, I am your white knight.

And I've bought my share of stubhub tickets, don't feel bad about that either.
Just cause I know something isn't "right" doesn't mean i can't take a long hard look at myself and know that yeah, I might do it if the situation were right. I pick my battles and getting mad about some kid getting in the pit for Eminem is not something I'm going to let upset me.
No, I dislike the idea that Bonnaroo isn't the real world. My friends had their campsite raided by theives last year. So, you have to look out for yourself first. The idea of everyone getting along and being peaceful is nice, but the real world doesn't work that way, and neither does roo.

lollollol.
Because that's relevant.
Yes, your friends got robbed so it's totally ok for everyone else to do whatever they want.

woooooobonnaroooooo.
It is relevant if you understood the point of what I was saying.
If my friends would have spent more time taking care of themselves and not being so trusting of a bunch of people they don't even know, their stuff would not have been taken.
That person in line, that you are so concerned about, probably doesn't give a crap about you, and given the chance to screw you over, to better himself, would probably take it. So, you have to look out for yourself, family, and friends. Everyone else is fair game.
If you'd like to walk around with your head up your ass, go ahead, but you'll get burned.

I think everyone is making way too much out of him slipping the security guard a 20 to get back in the pit. I mean, really. Big deal. Did anyone reading this thread get turned away from the pit? Has anyone reading this thread been turned away from the pit ever (provided you got in line at a reasonable time if you really wanted to be there)?
He saw an opportunity (or made one) and took it.
I would do the same thing to get up front for a band that I really wanted to see too.
People can be bought, no matter where they are and that includes Roo. The only question is the price. And I fully intend on paying an extra 20 to the broke volunteers at the gate to get to a good camping spot. I almost did that this year, but coming in I just forgot in the shuffle because I was so excited to be there.
Scalpers can be quacked over just as easy as they quack other people over, just wait till the opening act starts. I walked over from work to The Ryman to see a sold out Flaming Lips show back a few months ago. I think tickets were goin for like $40 regular. Walked up to one, told him I only had a $20 (lie I had $40) and that I only needed one ticket, didnt care what seat, just needed to get in the door. He says "nah $40" i say "ok maybe that guy will sell me one" and he hands me some poop ticket and I get in the door, find my friends, and sit with them.

No, it's not.
Your point is Roo is real life, and real life isn't fair. Well no shit, I'm not saying it isn't.
I'm saying maybe people should actually be genuinely thoughtful and caring of other people. Obviously that's never going to completely happen in day to day life, but it would be nice if you at least put some extra effort towards doing so in a setting like Bonnaroo, or any other large gathering of people that's meant to be for the enjoyment of everyone.
My friend had his tent pissed on by a drunk guy. I want Spicy Pie, so I'm gonna steal your slice. THAT'S LIFE BRO.
Your friends getting robbed doesn't change any of that.

ftr, no, this isn't a big deal at all. But nothing on this forum ever is so we might as well ramble about for four pages like everything else, right?
But seriously, no it's not a big deal, I'm just rambling because people are actually defending it. At least admit it's a shitty thing to do but your still willing to do it cause well, your content with being shitty in this situation. Hell, Gambit more or less has admitted this, it's others that were defending his actions that keep acting like it's not a shitty thing to do. And well, come on.
So, how is describing that my friends got screwed over by people at roo, not relevant to my point that roo is real life and real life isn't fair? You aren't making any sense.
Whatever, my final post on this subject. I don't see anything wrong with what he did. If anyone is to blame, its the security guard. I would've said hell no to 20, and asked for 100.
