holy crap the deervana show was nuts... they were drunk out of their minds and pure rock and roll. and some other band came on with them. then they destroyed their instruments and possibly the drummer
sonic stage right after black angel. the band that jumped in with them was Phosphoresce or somethign like that. they were COMPLETELY shitfaced and awesome. the highlight of the show for me. probably only 50 people were there tops
Deervana was awesome. I loved the guy that was trying to stage dive, but there weren't enough people there to catch him. I got some good video of a couple songs I'll have to get up when I finally get home.

So pissed I missed this (Deervana surprise show).
The regular set was FANTASTIC. The new songs sound killer....especially "Let's all go to the bar". Loved the whole show and they got people crazy when they covered "La Bamba".
Deervana being a surprise show is awesome but me now knowing about it is lame. So is the Portugal The Man secret parade. I would have LOVED to seen these two things. Why didn't anyone tell me?
I don't have one either, unless you have a rotary phone or something, any phone that receives texts can get twitter to their phone.
Well now I feel dumb. Didn't realize that. How does that work....do they text you every single tweet from people you are following? Or do you specify who you want the tweets from? That could be useful in the future.
I found out from Deer Tick's FB page the night before. They also announced it on Radio Bonnaroo quite a few times during the day on Friday.
Didn't have access to facebook since Wednesday but I am surprised I didn't hear it on Radio Bonnaroo. I'm pretty sure I heard it playing at random times throughout the weekend in campgrounds and centeroo. I need to pay more attention lol.

You just sign up for the text service on twitter. When you follow someone, you can click on a little phone icon to get the tweets sent to your phone. As long as you have unlimited texts, it's a great resource for music/sports news.
Unfortunately I missed Deer Tick's show, but unbeknownst to myself (until today) I actually DID see them as I saw the Nirvana cover, I just had no idea it was Deer Tick, lol.
I thought the drummer was dead after getting speared at the end of the set, lol.
hmmmm.... No particular order Easy Ashamed Choir of Angels Lets All Go to the Bar Smith Hill Christ Jesus Mange La Bamba Coconut/These Old Shoes Baltimore Blues No 1 Middle Brother Spend the Night Art isnt real (city of sing) alternate version Plus a couple other new songs
Really hoping somebody taped this show. Would be amazing.
I have a video of Houston, TX and some other random moments I thought deserved taping, although my decision making on video capturing isn't always the best. I'll post them later though anyways.
Immediately after posting my video on Youtube I see that VEVO has a MUCH better version than my own, but here it is anyways.
They also definitely played "I'm Gonna Learn to Fly an Airplane" about midway through the set.
If I'm not mistaken I believe that song is called "Middle Brother", by John's other band also named "Middle Brother". It didn't quite seem to have the same umph to it as opposed to the Middle Brother version.
ITM I know you're a big Deer Tick fan. I'm curious on your thoughts about Ian being added to the band.
Personally, I preferred the guy before him (don't know what his name is) who was a pure lead guitar player. Sure Ian is a good song writer, but I much prefer John's songs anyways so I like a good ear splitting solo here and there.

My opinion is that I've enjoyed Ian much more than Andrew (the former guitarist). Andrew was very talented but I always felt like he was a little boring on stage. Once Ian joined the band I feel like the sound has morphed more into a classic Rock and Roll style. He's really good at guitar and also has an amazing stage presence. I've also felt like John is more inspired when working with him....takes some of the stress off him. There seems like a lot more interplay between John and Ian than I remember between John and Andrew.
Just something about the first two shows I saw with Ian really stood out as awesome. The first time, Andrew was still in the band and Ian was more of a background role. The next.....Ian was the only lead guitar and he owned the role.
I liked both versions of the band......but I really enjoy this current lineup the most (especially with Rob on keys/sax.....he added a whole other element that makes songs stand out).

I send the addition of Rob on keys to be really good, adds a nice element to the band. I can also agree that Ian absolutely has more personality, I guess I just enjoyed his guitar playing quite a bit. I never can really hear Ian's guitar too well when he does take a lead, which I find strange as well.

I was unaware of that as that was the title that I had from the show I downloaded prior to Roo, but it is a good thing to know so I can yell the correct title next time I see them.

If anyone happened to catch it, I was the girl that passed out in the crowd and was carried out in front of the stage (hope nobody saw my boobs, my bathing suit top was coming loose while I was being carried). I only caught the first 2 or 3 songs of their set before passing out, so if anyone has video of the whole set, I would love to see it. Maybe I'll even see myself in the footage too.

I do believe I saw that, but rest assured, the twins stayed in their cage. At least from what I could tell.
