I don't see how you can criticize Lil' Wayne for "bad lyrics." He was at one time the best lyricist in the rap game. He can sometimes make bad songs that make no sense but you have to remember, this guy isn't sitting down and writing out lyrics. He goes into the booth and freestyles 99.9% of the time. SO yes the Bone Thugs may be telling a good and interesting story with their rhymes but comparing "Crossroads" and "Duffel Bag Boy" is just dumb and pointless.
Weezy could put on a great show if he's lucid, freesetyling, doing mixtape songs, bringing guests, etc.
If he's rolling his face off and lying on his back wiggling on the stage eating a silly-big lollipop giggling to himself, people will get pissed and say it was worse than Kanye.
I've seen both, I hope he brings the A game, brings guests, freestyles, is around for the weekend being a guest on other sets, and doesn't just do Tha Carter III and leave.
you know that with wayne you also get drake and the rest of young money right.. this isnt going to be a weezy by himself set.
hell he might even have travis barker as his drummer.. they are on tour together.. but travis doesnt fly anymore and has a fest in germany a few days later. so that might not happen.
either way you are going to get these people on waynes set
Drake Nicki Manaj Baby Eminem (maybe if they are the same night) Rick Ross (maybe)
and it would be very smart of Bonnaroo to put Eminem and Weezy back to back
Go from Weezy to Em and let them pull out all the guests.
You either like him, or you don't. It's that simple.
This. There's really no way to try to convert. I used to detest the guy, but he grew on me like a fungus down below and I do enjoy some of his music nowadays.

I for one am actually excited about Wayne.
Never was really into him before my senior year, but the mixtapes before Carter III, the actual Carter III album, and then a few mixtapes before Tear Drop Tune, were dope as fuck and got me heavily into him. I got all of his earlier albums and mixtapes and there is some amazing stuff in there. After that though, I haven't liked much of anything. I listened to No Ceilings but I just didn't feel it as much and now it's just like WHAT ARE YOU DOING WAYNE?! I still expect Wayne's show to be amazing, even if.
Now Drake... I really love Drake. I hope he shows up haha.

I hope Lil Wayne plays a LN on What and only conflicts with Pretty Lights and/or Bassnectar. That'd make the decision easy for me. I'm actually kind of excited for Wayne. He's so out of his mind that his show might be completely awesome (or it might suck).
07 wasn't exactly a strong year for hip hop. so sure if it makes you happy go ahead and say he was the best rapper in 2007....
What? But what about the supergroup Bone Thugs and Harmony? They had a song with Akon that summer!
shut up everyone knows Bone thus last good album was the art of war. btw I realize your doggin on my thugs but I just can't think og anything better to listen to the East 1999 Eternal while blazin one.

"It's the first of the month, wake up wake up wake up!"
Didn't Chris Rock make fun of that song? Pretty sure he called it a "welfare carol."
haha I don't know never listened/watched any chris rock stand up, but it tottally is the song is effin hilarious. POD'ed is possibly the best term ever coined by a rap group. (for those of you that don't know it stands for "past overs-dosed")

What you don't know is that Carter Beuferd was on the drums for "1st of the month". That's what made it a classic.

I like almost nothing in Lil' Wayne's catalog. His voice and style just put me off, can't seem to get into his style. It's weird, and certainly very original, but just not really my thing. I hate when people say he's the greatest thing ever, and when people say he's talentless. He's so polarizing when it doesn't seem like he should be. He's just a rapper out making weird, original, but not spectacular music.
But you know, that's why I haven't come into this thread until now, just to see what the board consensus was. I didn't go onto Dave's page and talk shit about him while other people are attempting to talk about something they're genuinely excited for.
And I'm certainly not going to say somebody else has no right to an opinion because they like Lil' Wayne, when I've expressed some stupid opinions about Dave being the best live show since The Grateful Dead.
For the record, I never "got" Lil Wayne until he dropped "The Leak" EP on Christmas 2007. I was on break from school and downloaded it the day after on Christmas on a whim. The first track was "I'm Me," and it just hooked me. I probably played that album through, front to back, about a 30 times between Christmas and New Year's. Just clicked.
Yeah, I've always meant to look into his EP's and mixtapes, it's just hard to make myself listen to an artist I already dislike. His being on the lineup will get me to actually go through those, and maybe I'll end up liking him. And I actually do like a fair amount of his guest parts on other rappers' songs.

I'll see if I can't contact his people to get him to sing his verse from Enrique Iglesias's song "Push" just for you.
Ah I'm a sucker for The Cool. Totally forgot about those two albums (Jay-Z and Freeway). Pharoahe Monch dropped Desire that year as well. Point is, '07 was NOT a bad year for hip-hop. I am a big fan of Cunninlynguists record from that year as well.

Is anyone else surprised at how low Wayne is on the bill? Not even a headliner...I mean I would put him and Eminem on almost similar planes...
I think it just speaks to who is at the top of the bill and the traditional format that Bonnaroo goes by. He doesn't fit this year at the top. Other years, he would have easily been the #1 rap act.

I feel the same way, though obviously i'm happy where he is, but I was under the impression that em and wayne were equals (if not wayne being bigger) I would have though it would be
Buffalo springfield* Arcade Fire* Lil Wayne* Eminem* Widespread Panic* My Morning Jacket...etc etc...

Eminem has sold something like 80 million albums - I think he's actually the biggest selling hip-hop artist of the past decade. Eminem is probably the biggest mainstream rap artist that tends to sell well among people who don't consider themselves rap fans. Not getting into the racial politics of all this, but I will say that Em is often played on the local "alternative" rock station, and he's the only rap artist that tends to get played. He's a lot bigger than Lil' Wayne.
ah i c. I was just saying that based off my exposure to the 2 artists. I hear everyone talk and listen to lil wayne all the time but i don't hear to much from people about eminem anymore. granted I don't listen to the radio and rarely ever watch television so that may have a lot to do with it haha.

Not only is Eminem bigger than Lil Wayne, Eminem is arguably the biggest rapper of all time. He's one of the biggest artists of the decade period, rapper or not.
