All I am saying is that if everyone's guesses on here made as much sense as mine did, this would be 57 pages shorter...and it at least makes enough sense of the clue not to be completely chastised...didnt know you guys had a monopoly on the forum - sorry...but I will say this, if it's Alice In Chains, I will streak naked through Centeroo because that entirely makes no sense whatsoever
If every guess in here made as little sense as yours, then the topic would be 57 pages longer than it already is.
Your puzzle solving instincts seem good, but when you make your end result completely junk by using your instincts to connect it to an artist that is almost literally impossible, you just look silly. Especially when you continue to defend it.

I feel as or more confident about Alice in Chains as you do LZ. Doesn't mean leno. And, as soon as Gary Chardonnay drops the next hint (if he's so inclined), I'll probably drop Alice. It's the way of the clue.
Wasn't Led Zep guessed early on? I looked through but couldn't find anything... If Led Z was already guessed, then it isn't possibly the answer- GC has ruled out alot of early guessing. Who is the new poster attacking all the people who have been doing the work on this clue from the beginning? Cokes and riburro have been doing alot of work on this clue- kudos to them for all their hard work! Thats all I am gonna say... Back to actual clue solving? In peace?
Rite - yet I come here and give a guess, and I get run over with criticism...Yet AIC and LZ if I'm not mistaken, have just as many dead band members...but Im not a member of your guys' lil country club though so nevermind...continue with your close-minded, random, shotgun approach...i hope the 4 of you can figure it out since they obviously just are doing this for the handful of you
You're lucky to even be drawing notice. Don't get me wrong, LZ fits the clue. Hell, the Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen, which sheds *water* when it burns. But, the suggestion LZ is going to play 'Roo is a long-running joke, born of the time *Lez Zeppelin* was mistaken by news outlets to be the better known group. J.P.Jones and Robert Plant have both played 'Roo in the recent past. Stick voraciously with your clue at your own peril. There are some very knowledgeable people on the board, probably even some insiders. Personally, I never get a clue right, but it's fun thinking elliptically.
Someone requested Empire of the Sun reasoning... it goes with the original clue of how people were saying the clue is about Apollo 13 and Ron Howard? Well Apollo is the god of the sun. And the recent hint is that it's a metal band. The main member of EotS is Emperor Steele (steel I think is accurate since Gary mentioned a "nail"). Also, sun isn't on Earth, but I've always been pretty sure that the band name as a whole is a reference to the fact that they're from Australia... just saying. I can't find any recent clues that fit as well as EotS does. So even if it isn't that, well, it should have been!
Also, EotS will be stateside for Coachella, so it's not a stretch that'll they'll stay for Roo too. Hopefully they'll do a US tour as well while they're here between Ultra and Coachella at least...

See, that's the thing. There is a semblance of a process we should take when we come up with a prospective answer, and it's not "does this answer fit the clue", not at first. Because as we know, we can turn these inkblot clues into anything. The first step should always be "does this ban make sense". EG:
Q: Is Led Zeppelin together? A: No Q: Are they likely to reunite? A: No Q: Are they likely to be at Bonnaroo? A: No
Q: Is Alice in Chains together? A: Yes, as they have a new singer. Q: Are they likely to be at Bonnaroo? A: Maybe Q: Do they fit the clue? A: Ehhh.
Note the difference. Neither are great answers (at least imo), but for different reasons. It's bad enough people try to turn every clue into Radiohead, we don't need people trying to turn every clue into a band who no longer functionally exists.
well to be honest, cokes, at least i have something to defend...i just looked thru 50 of your posts and didnt see you make a guess once, just downgrading others...perhaps youre the reason why this thread is 58 pages long....or maybe youre right, maybe ron howard is hosting bonnaroo this year
Shows how clearly you have read the topic. For quite a while I had one of the better guesses in Ben Harper / Fistful of Mercy.
Eagles of Death Metal are theoretically out as well, under the assumption that Homme is not pulling double duty with QotSA. At the very least, it can only be EoDM or QotSA, not both.
I haven't read the next page and a half to see if anyone set you straight, but Homme hasn't played with EODM for a few years now. Joey plays drums for them now. The thing that would make them unlikely is that Brian O'Connor, the bassist, is currently battling cancer.
Plant certainly is more likely. I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in the least. Decemberists seem pretty likely as well, though I must confess, they might be one of few artists I couldn't tie into this particular clue.

Was aware of the latter, not the former. Both make sense.
This morning was when Gary tweeted that he had seen a correct guess for this clue. He has not logged into his inforoo account since 4:55 last night (yes, I understand he can be lurking) so most likely he saw the clue either around that time (not sure how long he stayed on inforoo) or through Twitter.
If we say that he read the correct answer through Twitter, here are the answers from tweets (that I can find) between his last tweet about Mexican food and this morning's tweet :
Opeth Mars Volta Empire of the Sun Hawkind
Do ya'll like this reasoning? It helps narrow down the list....
I was really hoping someone could narrow the list down! I am totally lost in this thread now... I thought that Opeth had been guessed though before GC had left for mexican/scotch. Wouldn't that rule them out as well?

I'm hesitant to base any guesses on login times. Seems like metagaming the premise of the clues a bit too much.

It was guessed here on the board around 3:00 yesterday afternoon, but not on twitter until later (and it was a tweet from me). So I'm not sure.
I'm about to just give up on this one and let everyone else figure it out...
I would bet money that at least Plant is more likely to show up at Bonnaroo than any member of AIC, but I digress...I guess I should just guess "Decemberists" because I know they're due to show up and they're touring and then i will just find some way to force them into the clue...i like the EOTS guess though fwiw...at least theres some logic to fitting the clue, rather than trying to relate Mike Starr to the Apollo Space Program...anyways, yall have a nice day
Not trying to be disrespectful, but if Layne Staley's body was found surrounded by spray-paint cans, it fits "speckled lad's demise" to a frickin' T. Although, I have some doubts a clue would edge this close to being disrespectful of the dead, unless speckled instead refers to a history of more acceptable forms of addiction in contrast to huffing spray-paint.
This has been very frustrating... I am gonna go put my head in the microwave now. What did/does Ron Howard have to do with any of this? Didn't GC kind of confirm that the Ron Howard/Opie line of thinking was correct? What is the rest of the logic for AIC beside "chains"? And riburroo nailing "speckled lad" on the head?
This is frustrating because in all likelihood AIC is wrong.
The band is from Seattle, home to the Space Needle, and known as Rain City. Their lead singer died as said (in Seattle). From Gary's hints, Chains are made of metal and the band is influenced by metal. Their 2nd album is titled "Dirt," referencing Gary's "closer to earth" hint. Of course, every band can be bent to shape the clue, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
I went back and saw your OP. The reasoning to me is sound, I see the connections. And the speckled lad/Staley explanation is "sheer" genius (albeit, very sick). I am saying AIC. Final answer. Thanks riburroo, I am off to the microwave! If it isn't AIC, off to the microwave anyway!
I dont wanna stand out there naked during AIC's entire set...Im very freckly, I will burn...Wait, maybe this clue was about me...it is true, I will be at Bonnaroo...I wanted to be an astronaut as a child...there it is
You'll be covered in dust. Just like Burning Man. All reality is subjective. It is about you. Use your will to bend the universe into funny gigantic balloon shapes. Half the crowd will be dancing naked. Choose a side.

Hey! Chances are I'm overwhelming and embarrassingly wrong.
