I have no clue! All I can think of is that you were on the right track with Ron Howard (maybe even Opie?) and then got derailed somehow.
But if Ron Howard was the speckled lad, the only way I can think of that he could have thwarted someone's "trip to space" is if someone was supposed to be in the movie and then got cut or something. But all I can find is that Brad Pitt was offered a role but turned it down. Not really thwarted by Howard, and certainly not by any "demise" that I can see.
I'm pretty sure we're shit out of luck with this clue...way to much trolling and other stuff going on that we're just blinded form what it really means.
My guess. Simplify it. We got Apollo 13. Who was in Apollo 13? Kevin Bacon. Gary Chardonnay just used the word Cast in a hint. So there are two options:
The Bacon Brothers
OR
Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band
Kevin Bacon went to space in Apollo 13 because of a speckled lad. The other crew member that had measles. Kevin Bacon was also in Ron Howard's movie Frost/Nixon. Which was about the Watergate Scandal .. Watergate ~ Watershed?? Bacon Bros Band?
Gary Chardonnay tweeted that same thing about riburroo, and he also tweeted this: "There are no stones to throw with this hint. Look for a common cast."
I wonder if there's any way the common cast is the cast of a movie or tv show?
Common cast would seem to imply between Apollo 13 and something else, I think
Or it's a complete play on words and it's talking about a common cast meaning like... a broken arm.

Ok If the speckled lad is Opie, which is what I took from the Gary Chardonnay "quickly falling off the right path" line, there's a point in the movie Almost Famous where the groupies refer to the Patrick Fugitt character, William, as Opie, and at a point they chant "Opie must die", referring to the groupies taking his virginity..
If it is an Opie and and it's not Ron Howard as Opie (Even though the trip to space part would logically make sense as Ron Howard's Apollo 13).. Then the "Opie Must die" line from the movie would put a different spin on "A Speckled Lad's Demise", and could be a loss of innocence/virginity of sorts instead of an actual death..
In any case I can't remember anything from that movie having to do with a trip to space besides the whole "I'm a golden god/Spiked hallucinogenic drink" scene, and I'm doubting that really fits.
But the Character William is young reporter for Rolling Stone, Gary Chardonay did sweet something about "no stones to throw", and this is another movie so could be another reference to the "Common Cast" comment. Maybe Almost Famous could have something to do with it, doubtful, but maybe.
Indeed they do. But the Dead Weather are presumably not together now - The Kills and QotSA are making new albums. Raconteurs are out for the same reasons + The Greenhornes. So if 1 & 3 are related through a common artist, it's not likely Jack White.

I like this train of thought. Any other common cast members between Almost Famous and Apollo 13? I guess I'll start looking.
Has the band 30 Seconds to Mars been guessed yet? The reason I ask is because Ron Howard didn't give Jared Leto the lead role in A Beautiful Mind, which went on to win many Oscars and I do believe that Russel Crowe did win an Oscar for. There are currently rumors out though that Ron Howard will cast Leto in his making of the Dark Tower, Gunslinger movie... I don't know? Sound crazy? For Leto, a trip to space thwarted by a speckled lad's demise (making) A watershed moment otherwise?
Ok, thanks! I did see that they were already guessed, after looking back thru. I don't know anymore. I give up! But I do believe that Ron Howard/Opie thing is the right track since Chardonnay said how "quickly" you fall off the right path.
GC's response said something about falling off the right path when exploring Ron Howard as the speckled lad, Opie. Opie's last name was Taylor. He also said something about elements. "Fire and Rain," by James Taylor references all four elements, earth (ground), air (flying machines), fire and water (rain). Supposedly written about Mr. Taylor's speckled past in mental hospitals.
Going back to elements, Nickel Creek has members that are now solo (Sara Watkins) and in the Punch Bros. Do either of them line up well with Clues 1 and 3?
The movie, "The Man Who Fell To Earth," matches the clue almost exactly. Maybe it will be shown in the Cinema Tent? If clues #1 and #3 involve the same element (light/fire?), and are somehow described by the word, "cast," maybe #3 is a movie too?
Gary Sinise & The Lt. Dan Band seems to make sense (although, they're a pretty obscure cover band). Sinise's character in Apollo 13 didn't go to space because that freckled kid was sick...

Are we getting the Cinema Tent lineup via clues this year? Clue 2 could mean The Purple Rose of Cairo, as someone attempted to tie to it earlier.
