Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Bonnaroo had 100 arrests, I have been to zoe 12 times, and while there is no on site trouble roughly 70-80 tickets are written for possession on the highway every time. Waka went well this year, but that was after last year and the organizers saying they would move it if there were cop searches in line this year. You know a lot less about the scene than you think kid. Statistically Bonnaroo has the least number of arrests per capita of any festival I have ever heard of.
EDIT
Also they are not releasing the Waka numbers but it was "Dozens" and a record number. Last year was 70 if I remember so probably more than that. With 18000 attendees your odds were a lot worse there than at Bonnaroo.
waka was moved to mulberry mountain because of the cops at the last festival grounds. also, i can almost guarantee you that many of the arrest at waka were probably made on the hike to the waterfall because cops were very often there and i heard first hand stories about that, however, imo, that is not the festival grounds. they were wakarusa attendees, but as compared to roo, i'm pretty sure most of those arrests weren't made in the campgrounds. also, you've also got to realize that there were satellite campsites a mile away from the venue, so i'm sure people were also arrested walking to and from that. the only time i actually saw an arrest on the festival grounds (and trust me, we were keeping an eye out) was when they busted the tanks around 6 or 7 AM the night/morning tipper played, and i was cheering the cops on for that one. i hated walking past the nitrous alley. with that said: it's obvious that security at wakarusa was WAY more relaxed than at bonnaroo. Ask anyone who was there... it stopped being 2006 long ago
Also about camp zoe: EXACTLY. YOU HAVE NO PROBLEMS ON THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS. Going to and from most festivals is a risk that you should always be aware of, but that is not part of the festival, you just have to be smart on the road.
Do you work for bonnaroo or something? No disrespect but you always seem to go balls deep defending roo....
No but you are the one acting like 50 camp ground arrests is a big deal. I have been festiviling and following jam bands since the early 90's. The scene these days is 100 times safer than it ever has been for recreational fun time.
Roo had 70 highway arrests and 50 in the campgrounds out of 80k. If you can not beat those odds you are doing something wrong. Like I said Waka had a similar number, so does zoe, and so does allgood. All three are much smaller than Bonnaroo so they actually increase your odds of trouble.
Also considering zoe has a roadblock usually in either direction on Sunday, that does not make it any better than roo. At least at roo I can get in and out with relative safety and anonymity, not listen to staffers tell me to give them my corn because of all the roadblocks.
yeah seriously. a camping music festival is not a place where there should be sheriffs walking around campgrounds practically raiding people. it's sad. and those filtered water stations, what the quack, you had to wait forever to get some damn water.
bonnaroo is no longer free. try scoring some mind expansion at roo and you may find yourself in prison. how sad. i also will never be back. you can find me at some real music festivals where the Leno isn't so out of hand. look at wakarusa, first off, their porto's were nicer, the crowd was nicer, the scenery and camping grounds were nicer, it's cheaper, and you don't see kids that look like they're in middle school quacked up.
I would love to hear BTW from an actual person busted for POSSESSION not Sale of corn at their campsite. I am pretty sure that rumor is about as true as bigfoot. You say there tons of arrests and raids, well 50 is not tons it is one per 1600 attendees. The Waka number if we assume dozens is literal and we say 25 arrests in the grounds was one in 750. Zoe is more like 1 in 250 for the people who drive through salem, and one per 500 that go through Eminence. Since there is no other route those might as well be on the grounds as well.
So in parting I just want to say I am not going all out defending roo, you are going all out to attack it without consistent facts.

I haven't read all of this,
but I will say that the more you talk publicly about how there are no cops at your favorite festival and how you can break any law you want when you go there... the more likely it becomes that you are going to find cops enforcing the laws at your favorite festival.
I've been to 4 music festivals in the past 2 months and guess which was the only one where the cops had a strong presence and people were getting quacked with. Yep, you guessed right, it was roo.
Schwagstock at camp zoe - no problems.
Wakarusa - no problems.
Bonnaroo - sheriff deputys shined flashlights in our camp multiple times, witnessed many undercovers and set ups, many arrests, and them taking things from many people and even arresting a girl for selling her own artwork.
Dex Fest - no problems, although i heard of just one arrest on the festival grounds.
I said it before in this thread and i'll say it again:
Wakarusa =/= Bonnaroo
Waka = 15,000 people max
Roo = 70,000+ people
The other 2 festivals you listed are, again, not anywhere near the size of Bonnaroo. They are completely different entities and for you to act like because they are all music festivals they should all have the same standards for security is just silly.
Also.....god forbid a sheriff deputy shine his flashlight in camp. Wow that's so horrible. Did it hurt your eyes?
the only time i actually saw an arrest on the festival grounds (and trust me, we were keeping an eye out) was when they busted the tanks around 6 or 7 AM the night/morning tipper played, and i was cheering the cops on for that one. i hated walking past the nitrous alley.
This makes it seem like your first priority at a festival is to get fucked up.
Stop acting so entitled to something that's not legal.

No it doesn't.... but it does when you go back and add emphasis on selected phrasing.
Stop acting so entitled to something that's not legal
It grows naturally and freely all over the world.... I would say that means we're entitled to it. Just because something is illegal does not make it wrong.... it means the government is trying to condition you to believe it is wrong so that they can make profit from your naivety.

Blindly ignoring the fact that something is illegal and getting pissed when people enforce the law is stupidity, I'm sorry. This has nothing to do with why Marijuana is illegal in this country. You can try and change the law in other ways, but smoking weed is not the way to change the law.

I just have to say I think it's funny at the gate they made me dump out my kids' water bottles & said "people have tried to bring drugs in on their kids." But they didn't check my husband's pockets... Just sayin

Nobody is saying that corn is wrong. People are saying it's illegal.

I'm not trying to change any laws by smoking weed. I am perfectly fine with weed being illegal because if it was legal it would cost an arm and a leg, just like tobacco. Honestly it's a lose/lose situation. Since I am the type of person who likes my cake and to eat it too, I am a fan of decriminalization.
But since I am curious, what would the ever so wise NoD recommend?

Point taken.
However, not wearing a seatbelt or talking on the phone while driving are also illegal (at least in the state of TN) but they don't take you to jail for either and both imo are more dangerous than smoking weed.

There are different levels of the law. One person doesn't go to jail for punching another guy in the face.....but if he punches the guy repeatedly to the point that the guy dies then he will get taken to jail.
Also, not everyone who smokes weed gets taken to jail. A lot of the time (depending on the cop, the amount you have on you, and the situation) you just get a ticket or a fine (same as for driving without a seatbelt or while talking on the phone).
I wear my seatbelt and I smoke weed. I don't think I could compare the two as to "which is more dangerous" because they are two totally different acts that could result in multiple different things.

I know a few parents that have lost their kids because of that being found. From that perspective I'd pay any kind of "sin tax" to avoid losing my kids or going to jail. It's not as bad or addictive as some prescription pills, but it's still illegal *shrug*

TRUE STORY: I was pulled over on my way home from roo '08 (profiling, ya think?) and I did not get arrested and I was issued a "citation" but when I went to court I plead guilty (in my county that is a fine if you were not arrested) but in the county I was in, they wanted to put me in jail for 5 days.... FIVE quackin' DAYS FOR A DIME BAG. So I pleaded not guilty and it cost me about $1500, 50 hours of community service, and 1 year probation. So no, I did not go to jail, but it would have been a lot cheaper if I would have, they would have had to pay to keep me up for five days so yeah, back to my original point.... the government it is all about money.... not what is good for the people and not what is keeping you safe. Friends, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but yes, our government is corrupt and no, this is not a free country (obviously).

I hear ya, that's why decriminalization is the best of both worlds!
The trafficking of NO NO WORD!!! causes more harm than people not wearing their seat belts.
In all fairness wolfie, I never said anything about trafficking. Also, if it was decriminalized that would probably cut back on a lot of NO NO WORD!!! related crimes.

Exactly. [sarcasm]I mean I totally believed the whole "Reefer Madness" movie. [/end sarcasm]

Decriminalization.
so.... one could say that to some extent you agree with me?

You still would have gotten 1 year probation (actually, 11 months 29 days) along with that 5 days in jail if you would have pled guilty. That's how it works in TN. It would have been an 11 month 29 day sentence, all suspended except for 5 days, and the rest of that time on active probation...plus court costs, a fine, and an alcohol and drug class.
Just to play devils advocate here........You got pulled over coming home from the largest music festival in the U.S. Whether there was a legitimate reason within the law, we don't know, I would not expect you to admit that anyway. My point is, you got pulled over and you had corn. Corn is illegal. You got o court and get your punishment. Are you saying it cost you too much money? Would 500 and 10 hours of CS have been ok? Who decides if it is too much? This is a free country...with laws...if you break them, it will cost you. Anyway, not trying to start an argument, just asking some questions for the sake of discussion.
Also, why in the world would you leave a festival like Roo with ANYTHING on you? That was kinda stacking the deck against yourself. I'm sorry it happened, I know that would have put me in a pinch also. But, really, not all that suprising.....to me anyway.

I got pulled over on the way to Roo once on the TN/AL border for going 38 in a 35, with absolutely nothing illegal in my car, so I didn't care when they brought in a dog and went through every inch of most of my car. Within' seconds, the dog found the t-shirt I wore the night before, stuffed inside in a plastic bag, inside a closed duffel bag full of a bunch of other clean clothes. I wore this shirt while standing near marijuana smoke for about 5 minutes 12 hours earlier, and the dog went immediately for it with no hesitation at all.
That was when I realized that it is absolutely impossible to get away with bringing anything into or out of a festival if they bring in a dog, no matter where you hide it. My car was completely clean and I was still nervous as hell the whole time. Not worth it AT ALL to me, at least not anymore. Totally the best way of all to teach me a lesson about that. It ended with "you are free to go, have fun at the concert"

Hmmm - I seem to remember passing you on the side of the road and all of us going "Wow - they pulled .... over"

I live in TN and the county I live in if you get a ticket for simple possession you only have to pay the ticket and get a year probation. One of my besties got caught within a month of me and pled guilty ... no jail time. It varies, really. I got caught in the wrong county. My lawyer told me the judge was up for re-election so it was coming down hard. My lawyer was also a total stoner.

Why wouldn't I leave roo with it? We might have laws but most of them are bullhonkey. I mean, I live life by my values, not how someone else thinks I should live. I'm not going to kill you, steal from my neighbor, or beat my wife but I will get high. Truthfully, the people who really know me are really glad that I do, lol.
Here's the thing knox, I understand that marijuana is illegal and all but the problem is that we just accept that. Why is marijuana illegal? How can one be punished for harming no one? In this universe, we are part of something bigger than our local law enforcement.... we're deeper than that. You know the slogan "live above the influence?" Well I like to think that I live above the influence.... the influence of fear. And well, I guess something just seems strange about making nature against the law.... not THAT outta be a law!
*edit: After reading rockinhood's last post, I would like to add that the officer that pulled us over had a dog so we total cooperated and gave them the stuff. The still had the dog do a run through.... but he sucked.
Needless to say, I still slept in my own bed that night! (which was good because I really needed that post roo shower)

Correct. Sorry...I wasn't trying to say that everyone who gets simple possession in TN gets jail time. I was just saying that everyone who pleads guilty to simple possession or any other misdemeanor in TN gets that 11/29 probation. I thought you were stating earlier that you would have only gotten the 5 days in jail without probation if you had pled guilty.
