Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Bonnaroo had 100 arrests, I have been to zoe 12 times, and while there is no on site trouble roughly 70-80 tickets are written for possession on the highway every time. Waka went well this year, but that was after last year and the organizers saying they would move it if there were cop searches in line this year. You know a lot less about the scene than you think kid. Statistically Bonnaroo has the least number of arrests per capita of any festival I have ever heard of.
EDIT
Also they are not releasing the Waka numbers but it was "Dozens" and a record number. Last year was 70 if I remember so probably more than that. With 18000 attendees your odds were a lot worse there than at Bonnaroo.
"Police patrolled the roads leading to the festival, but did not make any arrests inside the campgrounds, officials said." So as i said before when i replied to this, most of the arrests were made on the trail and on the highway that were simply wakarusa attendees.
Keep in mind i was at all of these festivals and i don't think you were (correct me if i'm wrong on that one) So, i'll take my word over yours, considering i saw what i'm talking about first hand and you, however, did not. ;D Also; Statistically it's quite safe to say at Bonnaroo, compared to those other fests that were just mentioned, you have much more of a chance to get arrested AT the festival on the fests grounds. Which is what matters. The festival is what we're talking here, not right outside the festival.
I am astonished to see how hard you try to defend Bonnaroo, it makes you look like a tool.
I am surprised that someone who goes to so many hippie festivals has no idea how the festival world actually works. I have hit Mulberry mtn twice zoe 12 times and counting, and usually do 5+ festivals over the season. So while I was maybe not at THAT exact festival I have a good idea of how the grounds there work, and what to expect.
You have the unfortunate syndrome of now having seen some smaller fests, and turning into a self entitled smurf head that believes that they now really know "the scene". Also wasn't somebody hit in the face with nunchucks in the campgrounds and kicked out for their trouble last year? ( www.dead.net/forum/be-careful-out-there-search-attackers-wakarusa ). All festivals have good and bad, and plenty of arrests, and you are the tool for thinking Bonnaroo is worse than any of the other ones.
They keep security light, and I promise you that people you saw getting in "trouble" for eating corn in their campsite were either being hassled by fake police out to "confiscate" or did something else to bring it on them. The odds are still much much greater that you will get busted at either zoe or waka than 'roo, the location of the bust does matter nearly as much as the actual numbers. 84 people went to JAIL over waka, about the same as Bonnaroo, and the odds were much much worse that it could have been you. Then at the same time the internal security apparently got bought off by the nitrous mafia, and I have heard from phamily phriends who worked it there was also intimidation in the campsites. There is always a trade off, AllGood is the only fest that really seems to have it figured out.
I have always said go to Bonnaroo for the music, and jam fests for the party, it sounds like you have half figured it out now. I wouldn't worry too much though it is not like Bonnaroo will miss you or anything. For a big fest it is the best run out there, much better than woodstock 94 or any of the Phish festivals (discounting 8).
Also here is another great article, talking about how they moved a bunch of women out of the jail to make space for you guys.
Also your article pointed out some of the arrests were by the US forest service, and those guys will be looking at federal time, there are mandatory minimums and no parole system in the federal system give me Coffee Cty any day of the week.

Jess and nodepression, just keep in mind that basic stats and probabilities are hard for the entitled, 18-year old wook to understand.
I just saw that he really is 18 and is spending at a rough estimate 1500 on festie tickets this year. This actually does explain quite a bit, about his attitude. When I was his age I was watching entitled wooks breaking down the wall at DC, and getting my last chance to see Jerry canceled. Or waiting 12 hours to get on an Air force base to see Phish in a environment with maybe one nasty porta potty per 10000 attendees. These kids have no idea how nice Bonnaroo is compared to the stuff they idolize but never attended.
My mind is blown that you people are just like "whatever" to actual deputy sheriffs practically raiding the campgrounds. You think "oh only the dumb and unlucky people get caught." No. It's not like that. I used to think like that too until i witnessed all of it go down this year. If you think i'm full of Leno it really doesn't bother me because i know what i saw going down all of friday night and saturday night and a little sunday too. When the sheriffs came to our camping spot we weren't doing anything at all to attract attention. We weren't being loud, we weren't selling/buying anything, we weren't even drinking, we weren't smoking pot, nothing at all. You know why they came there? Because they were literally walking around all camp spots in our areas repetitively looking for anyone with a pipe, baggies, pot, anything and everything that could possibly be drug-related in their hands and then going up to them and taking it, hassling them, searching them, and even sometimes arresting them. If you think that's cool, you need to go to another festival because that is NOT how other festival grounds are. I understand busting people that are being obvious, but for fuck's sake, something is wrong when you can't smoke a bowl at your own campsite without being paranoid at a MUSIC FESTIVAL. For the record they literally walked under our shade canopy and shined their flashlights in all of our stuff before even noticing a little bag. There is no reason for that. You people who pull the "you just come here to do drugs" stuff make me sick. No i don't, but many people do use them at festivals because normally it is the one place you don't have to worry and can be free about it, as was bonnaroo 4 or 5 years ago. Honestly, at a music festivals with the line-up including artists like bassnectar and the disco biscuits, you should expect people to be hanging out with molly and lucy. Have you ever noticed that most people who went to roo the first 3 or 4 years have stopped going? Hmmmmm..... I know i should have got videos of all of this, which i thought about doing, because some of you people will defend bonnaroo forever, until you see it too. Seriously, any real head would agree with this. Which is why the only real heads at the fest are vendors making bank off all of you blind custies or making even more bank selling you custies weak Leno at high prices. It's the truth. I've been on the road, and been to more festivals and shows than most people have, i pay attention to stuff.
Compare this to wakarusa, another decent sized festival. Ran much more efficiently. Getting tickets was easy, going through the searches was easy, the searches through the gates to the stage were short and sweet as were the waits. The porto's were nicer. I didn't see any cops there. They only care about glass bottles. I never saw anyone getting hassled. Bonnaroo is twisted, if you expand yourself to going to other festivals, you'll notice too.
Sounds like a pretty classic example of the fake cop scam to me. Don't take any wooden nickels at AllGood kid.

Seriously jess, as far as how much money i spend on tickets goes... i'm not really sure what that has to do with, but trust me, mommy and daddy don't buy my tickets. But if you're trying to call me spoiled or something to that effect, you're dead wrong. I go to college full time and am actually 2 years ahead(I bust my ass to pay for college too, thank you.), pay for gas and other car shit, pay for tickets, work two jobs and some 'here and there' jobs when needed and pay my own rent and bills. So, please, take your 'this 18 year old knows nothing' comment somewhere else.
Seriously, you keep saying that these were fake cops. No. They weren't. It's irritating to have some one sit there and tell you you're lying when i saw the cops all weekend and they were definitely real cops. Our neighbors were hassled, we were slightly hassled, people around us got arrested and more... i witnessed it all. You're speaking on something (and thinking you're absolutely right about it) that you didn't see first hand and i did. I have no reason to lie and i saw on of their badges, i saw those same sheriffs detaining people. They were real.
The main thing i'm confused at is how you continue to argue when i am pointing out completely valid points, post after post after post. I saw it all firsthand so i'm not too sure how you argue with that but god knows you will. I really couldn't care less about arguing with some attendees of a festival that i don't care about anymore. More than anything, your complete and total ignorance for what i'm saying makes me both laugh and want to puke.. I could dissect your post word for word but it's not like you would ever actually take into account what i'm saying.
Reply if you want but your post tend to get a little less relevant with every post so i won't be paying any attention.
(also let me add, i'm not here trying to attack your opinions if it seems that way.)
It didn't bother me. Waiting for water and the heat are small prices to pay for Bonnaroo. Also, if you couldn't sneak drugs into centeroo, you're an idiot.
I wanted to puke after reading comments from "the guest" autumn, but instead I just crapped my pants. Last time I heard about cops harassing people, profiling as much as you say they were, was in the ghettos of south Los Angeles. And I believe a lot of those peeps rights were violated. College boy with two jobs smoking some Ganga at Bonnaroo, not so much. True, as far as festivals go, Bonnaroo seems to be standing on the shoulders of giants. That is why next year I demand one of the porta-potties have a Bidet, I mean for $250 I should have an options to have my taint cleaned, perineum for the edumacated.
"Don't worry man, sometimes Jesse makes me wanna puke too". (Of course that could possible be from killing a pony of Dos Perros over the course of about 5 hours...)

y'know for all the crybabies lemme put in a little perspective...how many concerts/festivals are there where they provide FREE filtered water, allow you to carry snacks into the main venue, have "searches" carried out by people working for a free ticket ( not exactly motivation for a thorough search), etc. they only started the filtered water last year before that it was well water, but even that was free and cold. If you don't wanna go, GREAT but please stop trying to sell YOUR misery as my experience. Been every year since dustaroo this was best yet. Also thanx to all who helped make that experience better ROO LOVE TO ALL!!!!!!!

This far into the thread I know Im alittle off topic but.....People need to stop bitching about the H2o situation. I read so many ppl say the wait for water was leno...could not tell you no why??? I bring enough water..C'mon ppl you do no your going to TN in June right? If you read the Roo list and survival tips for bonnaroo they all mention water and to bring more than you can drink...common sense... PEOPLE WHO ARE BITCHING SHOULD ONLY BLAME THEMSELVES FOR NOT BEING PREPARED FOR BONNAROO....That being said my Roo kicked ASS..anyone else.
(also had no issues whit the Pork squad either.. but that is just dumb luck I guess)
I've went to Roo 08-09-10 now, All Good last year, and Bisco this year, and the search for both All Good and Bisco was WAY more thorough than at roo. Last year at roo, they opened our trunk, felt a few bags, and let us in.
This year, they literally asked if I had any drugs or weapons and then let me in. No car search whatsoever. I was hassled the least out of any festival I've ever been to entering the fest, during the fest, and leaving the fest. I may not be the most experienced festival goer ever, but this leads me to believe that there are simply a few rogue cops/staff members that want to be dicks. I do not think that the official agenda of the Coffee County/Manchester/Tennessee police was to stroll through campsites looking around for drug use, but rather a few crusader cops who stick to the "drugs are wrong" slogan from 9-5 before heading out to the bar to get wasted on their favorite legal drug. Yes it sucks, but i really dont think that it was planned.
Call me a noob because I've only been to a handful of festivals, or do whatever you want, but bottom line is that this years roo wasnt very different from my past two, and I will surely be going again. As a matter of fact, the worst part about this year was all the people I found complaining about everything. "This is bullshit that the lines for the water is so long," or "man, bonnaroo sucks now, its so corporate" or "I can't believe they have so many sponsors everywhere, fuck fuse, fuck chase, blah blah blah." Some girl tried to start a conversation with me in the water lines about how all of this "terrible shit" happening this year was MTVs fault now that they "own" Bonnaroo. It was easily the worst part of my weekend.
So if you had a horrible time this year, or think bonnaroo "sold out," or whatever, do us a favor and STAY HOME next year instead of ruining my good time.
P.S: I came across this article and it made me laugh. Apparantly the "Bonnaroo is ruined" shtick has been going on for longer than I thought.

That article just made me ridiculously angry.
I love this
"I mean, this is the Bonnaroo Music Festival, the place you see bands like Widespread Panic, the Allman Bros., the Dead, et cetera. It just feels like they've turned their back on the past five years, and all my reasons for going have up and left," says Bonnaroo regular Will Evans, who's been to every festival. "Mark my words, after 2006, Bonnaroo won't be a force anymore. It's the last year."

This year was my first Roo and I LOVED IT! I brought TONS of water for myself and whoever needed it. I don't ever rely on others for such a BIG necessity. It's hot out there people you have to be prepared for any circumstance. As far as the Police harassment, I saw none. My campsite was right on an emergency exit road and constantly had horses walking by. I even saw some Coffee County police guys walking around close to our tent. Corn was being consumed but they didn't give us a second look. Everyone has a different experience at these things. You have be prepared and cautious no matter what. As far as the type of people who attend. . . don't worry about them! Everyone is offered tickets therefore anyone can come! I loved Bonnaroo and will be there next year with more friends!
