THANK YOU CRUNKER..... im not the only one who got hate the fraty party kids... and yes that is prob a bad term to use, but most of these kids we are talking about were frat kids.... none of them were funny but still presisted doing stupid shit making them very annoying. talked loud during shows while packing towards the front.... shit was stupid......... if you are just going to stand at a show then sit down so everyone in the back sitting can see.... you wanna stand? go to the front and dance, but dont just stand there blocking everyone's sight....
oh, i'm sorry. i didnt relize that my posting style had an effect on anything that mattered. Maybe i should work on that. I don't want to get an F in posting style on my report card. Thanks for the look out.
lol sorry, i am just very frustrated. Unlike most people here i didn't have a good time. Yes this doesn't give me a right to complain but i am givin a right to freedom of speech and opinion.

I heard from someone else that there was an arrest. I was camped with my crew at pod 3, right in front of the porta johns a stones throw away from the $1 grilled cheese and I smoked like a champ every day and met a whole bunch of people.
Behind my tent the last day I found like 100 cartridges for the balloons - we lived at NO NO WORD!!! central and it was fun. lots of fun.
Our car was no searched at ALL going into the festival - we were following friends they put a big zero on the wind shiled told me to pass through and we did. Our friends were searched and they tried to take her adderall with her - good thing she had her license. I had a positive experience - will go again

I totally agree. If you speak negatively about their beloved bonnaroo they get all teary eyed and cry like they have stock in it. I've been to multiple roo's and after last year I felt that it was over. The over all freedom is gone and the crowd is not as cool. No big deal.
after seeing everyones complaints about searches and cops one thing has become clear to me, we dont need less cops at bonnaroo to enforce the laws... we need less laws! and dont complain about "frat boys"and "hipsters" going to festivals in larger numbers, what we call that is diversity, just because someone doesnt look, act, dress, talk, cut their hair like you doesnt mean you should hate them.

Right now most of you are exhibiting a worse attitude than any single patron I came across at the roo. You sure can throw a tantrum like a frat boy. Also, if you're going to have a hissy fit lay off the ellipses, it makes me feel like you're hesitantly shouting.

Frat boys don't throw tantrums! NEVER! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT! *falls down flailing limbs* WE DO NOT! *starts throwing pots and pans around*

...these people do know that not all "frat boys" (and I'm sure they make the same assumptions about "sorority girls" or "sorostitutes") are the same, right? Right...?
wow bennyc that really hurt...... it tears me apart that you will not miss me.... what a shame.... and im glad you know the scheduling habbits of bonnaroo. though i hope they are not like your reading skills..... i said if they are on the farm.... not just late night.... why post anything at all benny? are you wanna those kids who has to say something just to be cool? is that why my post bother you?
Hey ee cummings, pay attention.
I'm saying that Dr. Dog, based on their musical style, won't be a late night act - very few straight "rock" acts play late night. Moreover, very few acts play two years in a row unless you're of the jam variety or you really blew up in the span of 8 months. Dr. Dog, as good as they are, aren't a late night type of band. Look at this year - in terms of after 12, how many acts were straight up rock and roll music? The Black Keys and.... ?
You won't be missed because your bitching and negativity is annoying and stupid. Grow up and stop acting like an entitled little whiner.

This is a silly thread and I hate to see the rooers so divided, but at least the negative assholes are so firm in their stance that we wont have to see them next year and they won't ruin our time... why does it bother people that there were "frat guys" there? Because they dont fit the stereotype of a hippie, they're not allowed to come to Bonnaroo?
This whole concept of being pissed that "frat boys and 16 year old kids" are coming to Bonnnaro is really upsetting because I feel like it ruins the whole idea that the festival promotes, which is community and coming together for these four days where every single person there is part of a big family. EVEN the frat guys and 16 year old kids.
It also seems to me that people are just grasping for anything all to complain about from this Bonnaroo. Like, expressing extreme annoyance at kids walking around yelling "buttscratchers"? How uptight do you have to be to let that get to you that much? Also, I saw alot of complaints this year from people who attended talking about how the lineup sucked... why did you buy a ticket then? Why buy a ticket to a festival that has a "shitty" lineup? If your answer is because you want to experience bonnaroo regardless of the lineup, then you waive your right to complain about the damn lineup.
Anyway, to everyone who had a good time at Bonnaroo this year, cheers. I did too. Sure, it may not have been as smooth as the past few years (not that they were extremely smooth), and the water situation was a bummer sometimes, but the fact is, we saw some great shows from some great artists, and, oh yeah, we were at fucking BONNAROO! No matter what you try to say about other festivals being more this or more that or easier to do drugs in or whatever, there is no place on earth quite like Bonnaroo, and if having your lucy taken off of you really makes you have THAT bad of a time there, then you're really not there for the right reason in the first place. and don't be so goddamn judgemental about the so-called frat kids and other people you didnt like that you also probably didnt talk to.
makes me laugh how the so-called "hippies" today are so closed-minded to anything outside of their circle... it would make true hippies cry if they read this thread.
you just proved my point benny. you just have to say something to be cool. you once again you talk about dr dog being late night when i said i don't' care if they are late night and plenty of bands get invited to do two years in a row. do i need to give examples because i can think of plenty already? BUT MOST OF ALL, who cares if i am there or not? i did not see you. If i did, i apparently didn't rain on your parade. i don't hate judging but when you are ACTING like a belidgerant douche then i call it like i see it. EVERYONE i saw acting like this were frat kids. im sorry but you know a wookie when you see one and i know a frat kid when i see one. i live in frat central. They are every where in knoxville. Trust me i know when the frat kids are at the valarium (local venue) and when they are not. leno goes alot better and shows are better to enjoy. when lotus played here, volapolliza went on with passion pit during the same time. all i saw at lotus were the usually live music supporters and the show was so dancy and enjoyable. i also went to some volapolloza before lotus (wanted to see some pit) and saw all the frat kids there. This is why lotus was so dancy. other shows have been terrible to enjoy cause those who just dont know better seem to pack the front and just bounce while fistpumping or just holding their arms up like and grinding every piece of meat in sight while acting like rude idiots.
i don't care that they were there. just care that they harrased some kid who was having a bad trip and made it worse ( i know this were frat kids cause i met them). Most of all i hate the drunk frat kids at shows who just acted like idiots (ex. the kid who had the meat stick, buttscrather, pushers, etc....). Trust me the tools were in full form for bonnaroo and most the tools i met this year were frat kids. people were just more rude then usually. i walked through some peoples tarp that was near me and all these kids just looked at me like "oh no bro he didnt." Just staring me down and getting pissed. later on found out it was a bunch of frat kids. maybe instead of calling all these people frat kids, lets just say all the tools. sorry for using the term frat, but most frat kids i met acting this way. hate to gernerlize but alot of bad apples does spoil the bunch.
Every year there are arrests, thorough searches, confiscations, people rushing towards the front at shows, lots of trash, long lines etc, etc, etc... If the crowds were a little less enthusiastic this year, maybe that's because it was insanely hot.
It's what you make it and how you react to it. Sometimes an assertive, but not disrespectful attitude with a security guard will make sure you get in with your light snacks. Sometimes looking normal is a good thing. Sometimes a little discretion is called for. Sometimes just being positive and flexible will make a big difference in the time you have.

tool |toōl| noun 1 a device or implement, esp. one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function : gardening tools. 2 that guy that walks through your tarp at a music festival

I want to give you a giant hug for saying this. I don't understand how people can think that after 10 years of a festival that is basically legendary for all but saying "come to our farm and party and go as crazy as you can," that it will NOT gather pressure from various groups of people to be a little more attentive to what goes on there. Unfortunately for those who do know how to use drugs responsably, this may hinder some plans that you have. HOWEVER, what went on was far from Bonnaroo being RAIDED. Not a single person that I met (and I'm a freindly, extra social motherfucker ) had said to me/heard anything about anybody being raided/hassled/searched more than usual. Be smart and you'll be fine.
yeah and just because i didn't see anybody steal anything at roo doesn't mean it didn't happen. AND DONT TELL ME THAT PEOPLE PUSH TO THE FRONT EVERY YEAR!!!!!! One of my fav memories is running dancing through the crowd at STS9 in 07. No one packed in on anyone. if they did it was the VERY VERY VERY front. NOW they are packing the entire tent for shows.
lol at the idea of me being a hippie. also i am a promoter of bonnaroo and have taken noobs every year that i have been. So quack the diversity thing. i expose all kinds of different kids at my school to not just music but to live music as well. i just hate when these kids act like dicks. stuff like people cutting line going into centeroo and bathrooms was ridiculous. Years past people are usually very freindly and i always at least hear "after you" at least several times throughout the weekend. Not once. usually people just jumped in front of me without even acknowledging that i had been waiting there. i know the heat was bad but not to make everyone loose patients and start being dicks. I had to deal with it too! no excuse! and the buttscratcher thing in between sets while i was trying to nap got really quacking annoying. it wasnt funny. im sorry that u think it is. it's like my posting. you want it to stop, but it doesnt. now how do you feel? catch what im typing now? you are here trying to recreate some memories, share good times, not think about things, when all of a sudden something negative start spoiling your time. This happened all weekend long for me. Too many people who felt the need to do things just to be cool ruined my weekend.
TOOL- a person who does something just for the need to be cool i do like your diffention too.

For the record,
This was my 9th Bonnaroo, and while certainly not the best one, I still had a great time.
The not so great things:
-Water stations: Less in centeroo this year than years past. Definitely a let down -Portajohns: If you think they were bad this year, you should have seen them the first year. I'm more disappointed that none of them had those grab bars on the doors that you could use to assist in the hover maneuver. -Heat: Hottest year to my memory. But hey, AC and Superfly can't control the weather. Just come as prepared as you can for any weather. Umbrellas were a lifesaver Sunday. -Police presence: Personally did not notice it, but it is evident that a lot of roosters did. It sucks that the man has to come down so hard at a place like Bonnaroo. I always tell people that it is a place that you can get away with anything you want to do that does not bring down someone else's good time. It sucks that that is not as true as it used to be. However, it is still better than the real world. -Poor Scheduling of acts: The Lips not being on What Stage, WTF?!?! Crowd was so tightly packed that even at the bobble heads, I was feeling nauseous from the claustrophobia. On top of that, Bassnectar completely overpowered them, and I couldn't hear Leno from the Lips. Lunar Stage had terrible placement. Definitely the most disappointing thing for me. -No glass allowed on shakedown: nuff said
The great things:
-Stevie Wonder: Definitely one of my favorite Bonnaroo shows. Good music, good vibe, and awesome crowd. -Cinema Tent: Lifesaver on Sunday during the heat. Tim and Eric was a plus too. -Steve Martin: Orange Blossom Special as a closer, and King Tut as an encore. All around great show. -Tenacious D: I was about to leave to go to Steve Martin, when they started covering one of my all time favorite albums, Tommy. Had to stay and sing along. -Ozomatli: Barely any crowd there. But thats ok, more room for me to get close. On top of that, Big Sam came and jammed with them. Great energy, despite the heat, and lack of a crowd, they did not hold back at all. -Those floating lantern hot air balloon things: That was beautiful during DMB. I was at the ferris wheel when they released those and actually managed to catch one when it came down. -The people: I have seen much worse crowds at Bonaroos past. Sure this one wasn't as good as when there are more jam bands, but still met some great people. I think it really comes down to what shows you are at. The crowds for OZO and Steve Martin were great. If you are complaining about the bad crowds, keep in mind you are one person in that crowd. How did you contribute to making it better?
So once again, I had a great year this year, and will definitely being going back next year for my DecaRoo. If you didn't have a good time, I'm sorry to hear that, and wish your Roo could have been all that you hoped it would be. Either try again next year or don't. Complaining and comparing this year to past years and other festivals won't change the fact that you didn't have a good time, in fact, it will reinforce that belief. Everything is all that you make it. Remember, if you don't have expectations, you get to enjoy pleasant surprises, and don't have to worry about disappointment.
bamadancer...... sorry, no i do not assume that all "frat" kids are the same. a few bad apples spoil the bunch is all. one of these kids i did met helped the guy who was all tripped out. i love my roommate and if i had to sterotype him it would be a frat kid. i just hate douchy kids.
shaggy, well wrote! i can always take some good advice. i will ponder what i can do next year to maybe help encourage the crowd or help bring good vibes. i did share my corn ALOT though, but i know that this is not going to help the overall crowd. i am upset now, but will learn from this year and think about how to make next year better. you are right, complaining will not accomplish anything. i just see less people like you (posting something contructive) and more people like me and the rest ( just the opposite).

i feel like since this was my first roo, i should say some stuff.
1. it was ridiculously hot. nothing could have prepared me for that. all daylight hours were pretty much spent just on trying to protect myself from the sun. night was a much different (and better) story.
2. the traffic getting in was insane. I waited in traffic for 9 1/2 hours, and ended up missing one of the shows i was looking forward to the most.
3. i saw LESS cops than i had expected. people did "bad" stuff all around me at all times of the day, and nothing happend. the only incident i heard of with cops was that one of our friends was at camp alone and was about to light up some stuff he just paid 50 for, and cops walked up to him, took his new pipe, the stuff, and his lighter, and then just walked away. (and i think it was probably just people dressed like cops, and wanting some free shit)
4. of course you have to wait in a line to get water when its a million degrees outside and your in a crowd of 75,000 people.
you just proved my point benny. you just have to say something to be cool. you once again you talk about dr dog being late night when i said i don't' care if they are late night and plenty of bands get invited to do two years in a row. do i need to give examples because i can think of plenty already? EVERYONE i saw acting like this were frat kids. im sorry but you know a wookie when you see one and i know a frat kid when i see one. i live in frat central. They are every where in knoxville. So what you're saying is that you really want to do is dance?
I hate to say it but they are getting smarter and realize whats going on. In a sense its for your saftey and they have to do it. But i do agree let em be.
Coming through the vip entrance the guy told me i was being searched for guns and it was for my own safety. What BS! They took a stash box from the guy ahead of me. Sure didnt look like a gun
you guessed it frank..... a) i type to fast to care about spelling on every single word B) im on a quacking board. i love it. oh this guy must be messed up because he spelled words wrong. give me a break. you are just another tool like the rest of them. you dont have anything constructive to say to them so you decide to start making fun of me. Just like those douchy people i say all weekend who had to say something just to be cool. you feel like a man stallone? do you? oh wait i forgot, maybe i should start using spell check. i might get an F on in posting spelling on my reportcard.....
benny, lol yes i just wanted to dance. just like that guy on dazed and confused..... "i just wanna dance" lol i about lost it when i saw that. That was good benny
