You know what my favorite set was in 2009 out of all the sick shows: The Dirty Guv'nahs at the Troo Music Lounge.
I was such a joy to see this band I'd never heard of playing their asses off. And I was floored by being in the pit five feet from one of my idols Bruce Springsteen the night before. That's what makes Bonnaroo. You can go on an on about ticket prices and names but really it's about finding your own groove and exploring that make Bonnaroo BONNAROO.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
everyone on here needs to stop bitching about everything. first, if you don't like the lineup, instead of complaining on here, don't go to the festival. more room for everyone else who actually wants to go. second of all, for people complaining that ticket prices are so much higher than before, and its not worth it, i'm about 95% positive ticket prices have remained the same for the past few years.
i hate the people complaining about the way the lineup was released...well, tough crap. no one forced you to sit here and watch it. you could have gone about your life and checked the site when all was said and done. man, thank god i was around for that Miranda Lambert announcement....whew! but seriously, stop complaining. its not gonna do anything. if you wanna "make a stand", then do it by not going to the festival. maybe if Superfly sees a significant drop in attendance, then they will book more big names acts next year.
as for my opinion about the lineup, i'm perfectly fine with it and i can't wait to get on the farm. everyone says its missing that one big name, but the amount of mid-level acts that are playing is staggering. instead of seeing that one big name, go see someone you've never heard of and discover something new. even if you don't like the lineup, don't let that ruin your time on the Farm. it's still going to be the best weekend all year no matter who plays. WSP could headline all 3 nights, and i would be there ready to have a great time. (and i really don't care for them at all).
i just think people are completely overreacting to this. everyone has just been spoiled by past lineups. i mean, eventually it has to get a to a point where they just can't top themselves every year, and i'm perfectly ok with that. i hope people don't go this year as a form of protest....more room for the people who actually want to be there. sorry for this rant, but i'm just sick of seeing everyone complaining about this and throwing Superfly under the bus. they got together a list of diverse bands to showcase their talent, and you're just ripping them apart.
i heard a lot of people saying the economy has a lot to do with the lack of big names....i dont think thats the case. i just think the event organizers wanted to get a group of bands together that they know people are going to enjoy. there are quite a few acts on there that we have seen down on the Farm already, and in their previous appearances have rocked the house. Superfly knows what they're doing.
The amount of midcard names are staggering? Well yea they have the same amount of midcard bands from last year, it's just the quality dipped.
Seriously last year we got Wilco and David Byrne, this year we got Tenacious D and Weezer.
Tell me there's not something wrong with that scenario. We had one of the best contemporary bands around along with one of the most influential artists of the past 30 year still making some great music. This year we got two joke bands who either haven't released anything worth listening to or haven't released anything worth listening to since their second album.
Nobody gives a crap if you have more room to dance, or if you're worried about our bad "vibes" we're worried about getting our moneys worth from a festival we love.
Responding here cause i wasn't ibtl on the download thread. legal downloading? pshhhh *fuck that. lol. yeah wasn't trying to *fuck inforoo over lol figured the xx was good enough.
*sigh* i too am coming around. the undercard is fine. the headliners are mediocre. the people are great. the scene is wonderful. the weekend is a blast........BOOOOOONNNNARRRRROOOOOOOOOO
edit: i still want some great additions though, don't get me wrong.
hell yeah man, you were like number one against it too.
don't misunderstand me - i am still on the side that thinks this line up is the worst in roo history - but i thought about it all day and realized i'll have fun regardless. this doesn't make the line up any better. i'm waiting to see what lolla has up their sleeves, but i did remember the roo vibes.
Haha your way over my head man. Your gonna have to spell it out for me. I mean i checked cold cave's label and that's not it.
it's just a record store in atlanta...fairly well known one
It's Atlanta. And the free show at Criminal and the show tonight got postponed because supposedly there is some kind of blizzard or something up north preventing them from coming down. Insert joke about cold and caves here

I was so close to moving to that area and going to Georgia State. Opted for the cheap rent in Athens and UGA instead. I'm still in ATL for the shows once a month, so best of both worlds.

I'm not misunderstanding you man. I'm just glad you realized that it's gonna be a blast either way, that's what it's all about. You would have 10x more fun at roo with this lineup than you would at Lolla even in 08, and my god that was an amazing lineup. But Lolla is complete weaksauce, 10 o'clock end time. *Fuck that. Plus it's vibe is *fucking lamester if ya know what i mean. I had a blast seeing Kaiser Cheifs, Lou Reed, and Jane's Addiction all close, but nothing compared to a real festival.
baited and switched? if you followed these boards at all you should have been expecting exactly these headliners
Ditto. I wasn't surprised at anyone who is on the lineup. Maybe at people who weren't on it, but come on, we've been beating this horse since December...
NoDe was right on in his post...I don't think you can make it much clearer than wilco/byrne vs. Tenacious D/Weezer. That is quite a juxtaposition.
I love Bonnaroo as much as anyone else here, but you will have a hard time convincing that this isn't the weakest Bonnaroo lineup ever, especially considering what last years lineup looked like in conjunction with the idea that they're supposed to get better every year.
I still I hope everyone that goes has an awesome time (I still might)

I wish I had the kind of money that I could spend $500 plus after being baited-and-switched, just "because it's Bonnaroo".
Either you can afford to go to Bonnaroo or not, don't try to play it like the people who are going have so much money than you. If you can afford to drop hundreds for a good lineup, then you're not hurting for money.
For some people, this lineup is sufficient for a great Bonnaroo.
Thats not true for everyone. Some people go to music festivals for the music.
Haha of course, but the idk man i get that opinions are different but i just dont get how people could think this lineup is that bad that it would not be pretty close to the same experience as you always have at roo.

That is two spots on the lineup, i mean it is clearly way the *fuck better, like no contest, god i wanna see byrne. And yeah i would say last year was probably a little better because the top 25 acts or so were absoultely amazing. But this lineup had 41 acts i would pay to see before doing any research compared to 37 for last year, for what it's worth.
I'm definately not going to try to convince you that it's not the worst ever, because that is just an opinion and it's hard to change someone's mind when it's made up, but in my pretentious opinion, it is not the worst ever.
Edit: and by saying wilco/byrne compared to weezer/d makes it clear which one is better (which it doesn't) means your stating your opinion as fact, which makes you and NoDe look holier than thou
I prefer Wilco and Byrne over Weezer and Tenacious D, but if my memory serves correct, Weezer plays ALOT of older stuff even with their new album out and Tenacious D will put on a fun and hilarious show. I'm starting to look more and more upbeat with the way this schedule is put out, even though if I had to compare it to previous years, it's pretty weaksauce.
