^^well last year also had Bruce and phish either one of which is better than KOL+DMB. It also had awesome 2-3-4 line bands like the mars Volta, gov't mule, moe. NIN, and beastie boys.
I just don't see anything comparable this year. If that makes me pretentious so be it.

Yeah that's my point, I see plenty of things comparable to last year, and if you want me to go through the top of the lineup and tell you which bands i prefer i'd be glad to cause i don't have much of a life outside of music on the weekdays lol.
You saying you think that lineup is better than this year doesn't make you pretentious, saying it "clearly" is does.
Also i called myself pretentious, you holier than thou, for clarification
I just don't see anything comparable this year. If that makes me pretentious so be it.
It doesn't make you pretentious. It just means you have different musical taste then some people. some people (though maybe not many who post here) will be as happy with this lineup as you were with last years.
NoDe was right on in his post...I don't think you can make it much clearer than wilco/byrne vs. Tenacious D/Weezer. That is quite a juxtaposition.
this is your opinion.
guess what. last time i saw wilco, i feel asleep. YES, that's right ASLEEP. at 5:30 in the afternoon. so needless to say i don't find them very entertaining. but that doesn't mean that i think weezer/tenacious d is sooo much better and all you people who think otherwise are stupid and ridiculous for not seeing the light. BLAHBLAHBLAH. you don't like it, we get it. (hmmm...this thread is starting to sound like another thread that nodepression liked to bully in.)

I don't really think it's bullying to say that Wilco and David Byrne are far beyond anything Weezer and Tenacious D could every hope to be. Jack Black isn't fit to wipe David Byrne's behind.
last year also had TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Decemberists, Band of Horses and Andrew Bird...
Still, nothing comparable.
ummmm.....sure there is.
You see......I only saw 1 out of those 5 bands. I'm not a huge fan of TV on the radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Decembrists, or Andrew Bird.
I'd be much more happy with this year if I had to choose between those 5 acts from last year or these 5 from this year: Dave Rawlings Machine, Dr. Dog, Michael Franti & Spearhead, The Black Keys, Les Claypool.
Like I said......it all depends on musical taste. You really can't compare bands like it can be factually determined which is "better". They all put on amazing shows, it just depends on what you're into.

As i said, last years lineup was better, because of bands like that. But to say there is nothing comparable makes you all look like *dickheads and i'm sorry to keep saying it this will be the last time but SOME PEOPLE THINK IT IS COMPARABLE. they aren't right and neither are you. it's music, it's opinions, it's taste. get off your *fucking high horse

How about comparing them to other bands?
Wilco = Flaming Lips - established name who have risen in popularity and played the festival multiple years
David Byrne = Jeff Beck - legendary name who has found success in a band and solo and is still able to put on an awesome show.

yeah and here comes itrainmonkeys to agree (albeit in much more mature and civil words) with me so i must be right lol. itrainmonkeys keep it up man, one of the few regular posters who avoids meaningless negativity and above all doesn't act like he is better than everyone else.

Well it's easy to compare based on lineup place. Who are we comparing Weezer to then? I'm not really comparing name to name when looking at the lineup and feeling a little let down. I just look at names like Weezer and Tenacious D and say hmm not that good, especially not good at their spots, but not good in general. Same with KOL and a bunch of the other bands people are complaining about.
ITM you can recognize someone's talent without liking them.
I do. I completely understand. I recognize that TV on the Radio and Andrew Bird and all the bands you named are extremely talented. I even said so in my post ("they all put on amazing shows"). My point was that you can't really compare bands that way........ya know by saying "Look....these bands are better than these bands". Almost all of the bands on this years (and every year's) lineup are based on being able to put on an awesome concert. It all comes down to what music you like.
I don't really think it's bullying to say that Wilco and David Byrne are far beyond anything Weezer and Tenacious D could every hope to be. Jack Black isn't fit to wipe David Byrne's behind.
Haha who said they were? I didn't read that. And although i believe music is more about opinions, what you just said was fact, i just don't think anyone disagrees.

I would go through band by band and say bands who I think have put out bad music, but I think that would be in poor taste because people take that stuff personally. Oh and by the way I'm psyched for Dave Rawlings Machine.

How about not comparing bands? My opinion: Flaming Lips 1000000x better than Wilco. David Byrne is at least 10x better than Jeff Beck. By better i mean i like their music better.
Although I know what you mean based on your explanations after.

We can say music is about opinions, but then some people think Nickelback are great and others think the Beatles are trash. There is some right and wrong in judging bands. I think true or the better word would probably be more mature music fans can recognize other bands as being good without loving their music. Most people on here recognize Phish as being great even if they don't personally like them.

How am I supposed to respond to this without coming off as a smurf. You're wrong, and I guess I could leave it at that. Tweedy is one of the better songwriters of the last twenty years. I'm sorry that you can't objectively see that they're amazing even if you don't personally love them.
Sorry for the double.

But why even do that? Why not compare based on what YOU want to see. Last year Snoop Dogg was high on the lineup and I was much, MUCH more interested in seeing The Low Anthem (who were way lower on the lineup).
Who are we comparing Weezer to then?
Don't know. I wouldn't compare them to anyone. I'd probably be somewhere else during their set......but that's just because I'm not a huge fan.
I just look at names like Weezer and Tenacious D and say hmm not that good, especially not good at their spots, but not good in general. Same with KOL and a bunch of the other bands people are complaining about.
Maybe they won't be that great at Bonnaroo. Maybe they will. We won't know until after the fact. Even so, they aren't going to be playing unopposed (KOL might......too bad. Use the time to rest or get a great late night spot) so it's not like you won't be able to be watching one of a few different shows that probably interest you more.

Yes which is why I said your statement that Jack Black isn't fit to wipe Byrne's *ass was fact. When it is obvious *shit like that then facts come into play, considering we are all devoted music fans. But when it's not so obvious, it's all just opinions.

Haha i like Wilco, not just respect them. I loooooooooooooove the flaming lips.

Well if you're going to compare Nickelback and the Beatles then my head may explode lol.
But seriously, can you say someone is wrong for liking the music they like? I know I couldn't look at a kid who was bobbing his head to Nickelback and tell him "hey kid....you're wrong at music. you're music sucks." People will like what they like and it's unfair to say someone is wrong for their taste in music.
for the record: i would never watch a nickelback show even if it was free. but i also wouldn't sh*t all over the fans that show for being "wrong"

Wilco and the Flaming Lips are both very good bands. Why is that hard to acknowledge? Weezer is way past their prime and a joke live. Tenacious D are a joke band at what the 5 spot? Jack Black is a terrible songwriter. I don't see how others don't see this. They're fine for the comedy tent I guess, but their spot on the lineup indicates they are meant to be taken as musicians.

Right on man, couldn't agree more. If I were to compare the two i would do it by writing out lists in order from who i wanted to see the most and compare it that way.

To answer your question: yes. Yes, I do think some music is objectively bad. Actually I think the majority of music is mediocre to bad.

Haha dude you aren't reading my posts are you? I *fucking said i like em, don't just think they are "talented". Like them, alot even, though starting with their new album was a bad choice. I listen to them, weekly. I listen to the Flips daily.
thats what I keep sayin...obviously I missed the promise of something somewhere else.
I realize that we think really, really highly of ourselves here at inforoo.com but Bonnaroo's twitter might just have a slightly higher audience.
They used that to tease the Rolling Stones, etc.
They also used said twitter to hype a "surprise" yesterday.
so you took "surprise" to mean some big name? Cuz when my mom says I have a surprise for you I dont expect Roger Waters to show up at my door. Its all subjective...this whole argument is subjective and based on expectations. Im sorry maybe some of our expectations are unrealistic or some werent met. I think inforoo hypes up everything so much that when we didnt get Neil Young or Roger Waters or whatever huge name you were looking for it was a real disappointment. My expectations for Roo were met...theres so many other festivals to check out.
