This is conformist attitude saying I'll go to bonnaroo no matter what because of the experience and there will be some great music. That's not the point to me. The fact that tickets are at $270.00 is that they are higher than last year. For me the acts should be comparative at least.
The experience has changed also. Standing in line to get searched sucks. They groped my girl and took our snacks before. This really sucks when the cops tossed our RV on entry and then you have to put up with this.
Just saying without the lineup being to my liking I won't just go for the experience. I live my life some kind of moral code.

no, it isn't.
it's an opinion that's based on past experience. ive been to 4 roo's and have had a great time, every time. based on that, i believe 2010 will be a great time.
if i end up having a negative experience, then i will reconsider my position that bonnaroo = a great time.
Sorry you had a bad experience, dude. However, I don't think that going because it is a huge party and you are bound to have fun one way or another necessarily breaks anyone's moral code. And I paid more than this last year, by the time I bought my ticket anyway. I didn't go to any of the early Bonnaroos but I think getting searched is to be expected, right? Are you incapable of hiding something on you that you don't want to get taken? I had no problem with it last year. I got searched a few times, they never found anything, I never lost anything. And if someone groped your girl then that someone has a problem, it's not like the sponsors told the creeper guard to go ahead and grope all the girls in his line.
I don't think the headliners are spectacular this year, I was frankly kind of disappointed at first. But I'm going, and I have no doubt that I'll have fun. AND my morals will not be compromised. Well maybe a few of them, but none of the ones you mentioned
This lineup is actually really solid, it's just missing the punch of a few more big names and must see acts.
Anyone who thinks 'Roo will be lame this year because of the lineup doesn't belong at the farm in the first place. Of course people may not want to make a long trip or spend their savings when their favorite band isn't on the lineup, but the Bonnaroo experience we love is going to be there this year whether you go or not.

Everyone knows you wait in line to get searched. It's part of the festival. Now if you had a bad experience because you got one of the few guys who go to extremes when searching then that sucks. I typically scout out all the lines while I'm far enough back and see which guys look like they're giving people an easier time. Never had a problem yet. Simply because you had a bad experience, does not mean the entire experience as a whole changed in any way.
I've had a great time at 4 roo's. Just saying to put up with the ever changing rules sucks without a lineup that is anything less than stellar. You can't alway choose the person who searches your car the cops searched our RV two years ago and last year the cops searched my friends to the extreme. They pulled there food out and were sqeezing their bread and stuff and then left them to put everything back. I haven't been busted with anything. I'm just saying. You guys are so sensitive. You would thinks that I was talking about your family or something.
When I talk about morals I mean in general. Like the fact that I don't shop at Walmart for the fact that they use inported child labor products and ruin small towns all over America. I won't just go to bonnaroo because. I will go if the music is right.
I am extremely disappointed with the release of the lineup. But I gotta remind myself, it is Bonnaroo. So I just bought two tickets. quack it....I'm going
Ive been admittedly hard on Bonnaroo this year. I get pretty emotional because Ive spent most of my 20's (03 - Now) going to this fest yearly. As I was staring at the lineup just now, internally griping about the headliners I thought... "Wait, Ive gone to Bonnaroo before and mother trucking Widespread Butt Cheeks headlined 2 nights and I still had an absolute blast! Why am I freaking out so much?" I said it years ago and Im applying it to this years lineup.
Any Bonnaroo lineup that doesnt include Widespread Panic is awesome, flat out.
i dont think this year is the same as people being upset over one headliner. i dont think people are upset over any ONE of the acts this time and i see that as the important difference.
When I told my friends (who had gone to Roo 05 and 06 with me) that the 08 headliners were Pearl Jam, Metallica, and Jack Johnson.....they laughed their donkeys off at me and told me it would be the worst festival. They made me feel like it was going to be horrible and even I began questioning going.
I went and it was one of the best Roos of my life. We can do as much bitching and complaining and talking about how we were let down by superfly......but at the end of the day if you go to the festival and see as many acts as you want and have a great time then you really weren't let down. You just think you're let down because of your initial feelings towards the lineup without even giving it a chance to be great yet.
I am right there with you. 2008 was the funnest Bonnaroo I have ever been to. You would have thought that with all the horrible hand-wringing and whining about the lineup that it would have been a nightmare.
But it wasn't, it was fantastic. I met cool people, I partied my tail off all night, I saw some great shows, really it was everything you would want out of a festival.

Well if you want to talk about morals, shouldn't you be boycotting Bonnaroo regardless of the lineup? You should be making a stand against their "ever changing rules" but instead you're saying that you can be bribed into going to Bonnaroo with a stronger lineup. That's like saying, I don't shop at Walmart because I'm against what they're doing, but I will make an exception if they have a really good deal on something I want.
Also, your implication that people who are excited about this year are being conformist and have no principles or moral code is way off base.
If you've had bad experiences at Bonnaroo and the lineup isn't doing it for you, then don't go. This has nothing to do with morals.

But, like he said, he had not been to previous Bonnaroo's.
You will never be able to contrast the '03 searches to the '08 searches (worst ones IMO).
Your are correct sir. I was bribed last year. That's why I didn't go with my girl. Other than the illegal searches I have had a great time. I won't ever go again. Still working on my moral code. Have fun being patted down by kids and if your lucky they will pick you out on the way in for the cops to ransack your stuff.
everyone on here needs to stop bitching about everything. first, if you don't like the lineup, instead of complaining on here, don't go to the festival. more room for everyone else who actually wants to go. second of all, for people complaining that ticket prices are so much higher than before, and its not worth it, i'm about 95% positive ticket prices have remained the same for the past few years.
i hate the people complaining about the way the lineup was released...well, tough crap. no one forced you to sit here and watch it. you could have gone about your life and checked the site when all was said and done. man, thank god i was around for that Miranda Lambert announcement....whew! but seriously, stop complaining. its not gonna do anything. if you wanna "make a stand", then do it by not going to the festival. maybe if Superfly sees a significant drop in attendance, then they will book more big names acts next year.
as for my opinion about the lineup, i'm perfectly fine with it and i can't wait to get on the farm. everyone says its missing that one big name, but the amount of mid-level acts that are playing is staggering. instead of seeing that one big name, go see someone you've never heard of and discover something new. even if you don't like the lineup, don't let that ruin your time on the Farm. it's still going to be the best weekend all year no matter who plays. WSP could headline all 3 nights, and i would be there ready to have a great time. (and i really don't care for them at all).
i just think people are completely overreacting to this. everyone has just been spoiled by past lineups. i mean, eventually it has to get a to a point where they just can't top themselves every year, and i'm perfectly ok with that. i hope people don't go this year as a form of protest....more room for the people who actually want to be there. sorry for this rant, but i'm just sick of seeing everyone complaining about this and throwing Superfly under the bus. they got together a list of diverse bands to showcase their talent, and you're just ripping them apart.
i heard a lot of people saying the economy has a lot to do with the lack of big names....i dont think thats the case. i just think the event organizers wanted to get a group of bands together that they know people are going to enjoy. there are quite a few acts on there that we have seen down on the Farm already, and in their previous appearances have rocked the house. Superfly knows what they're doing.
If you don't like discussions, don't get on a forum. There is a thing called freedom of speech. Tickets have gone up every year, but there were some big names that did that. ex. The Police, Bruce, metallica, etc. I didn't like any of those, but understood the cost of the ticket is all I'm saying.

Well I can definitely agree that oppressive goon presence at Bonnaroo would ruin the experience and if I had my stuff ransacked maybe I would feel guilty about continuing to support Bonnaroo.
I've gone the past two years and the searches I received weren't a big deal. Also, as far as I know, once you're in Centeroo you can pretty much do whatever you want without being hassled.
It sounds like you just got unlucky with a couple a-holes on a power trip.

i paid the exact same price for 1st tier tickets the past 3 years. they didnt go up. maybe some of the fees went up, but the face value of the ticket has stayed the same. i'm fine with the discussions, but for people to overreact like they have been is just absurd. "well i'm not gonna go if the lineup is gonna stay this terrible!!!" good, dont fucking go! its the people that repeatedly post something saying they arent going that are obnoxious.
To all the people saying "if you don't like the lineup then don't go, that's more room for us", keep in mind that each Bonnaroo with "extra room" could be the last.

it is still the premier festival in this country. it's not going anywhere. people are still going to buy tickets and go because most people know that its still going to be a good time.

There definitely is a point where a weak lineup could prove to be a disaster though. They have to make enough money to still have sufficient start-up for the next year. While the bands this year will bring in fans, I think they'll lose way more than expected due to the lack of jam and other normally strong genres. The lack of a big "destination" band will make it harder to bring in new random friends who've already seen the top line acts in their own cities. The lineup has a lot of talent top-to-bottom, but not a lot of "wow" artists who you can't normally catch. It's only the premier festival in the country because it's combination of lineups and other factors, but the lineup is still a huge part of that equation and getting big rare/exciting headliners is a big part of what makes those lineups special. One year like this could honestly cause Bonnaroo to lose it's label as premier fest and start a slip, though likely slow, into festival obscurity. Keeping your major fan base just seems to simple a concept to me, but I guess the business majors have other ideas.
Anyways, maybe they're saving money this year so they can make next year ridiculous and they know it'll be so good everyone will come back. I'm happy enough with the lineup and figure at least one of my friends will tag along for the ride, but I think they've certainly misplanned a few things this year and it will cost them in things not measured in $$.
[ This is not a opinion, just an observation - I have my tickets and care not for headliners - I spent a grand total of a Bruce Springsteen (where I slept for too much of his show) and half a Rodrigo y Gabriella at What last year. ]
If you were still following the announcement trickle on Tuesday night you probably didn't catch the Jeopardy College Semi-Final where in the Double Jeopardy round all three of the contestants blanked on the following questions:
($1200 in the category Non-Beatles Rock Band)
"Be Somebody" & "Sex On Fire" are songs off 2008's "Only by the Night" from this band
($1600 in the category Non-Beatles Rock Band)
Bassist Stefan Lessard & drummer Carter Beauford are the rhythm section of this "Under the Table and Dreaming" band
Yup, the top two billed acts were unknown by three college students. Who did manage to get the questions about Them Crooked Vultures and 30 Seconds to Mars correct. The other clue they missed was for Sammy Hagar.
A possible addition?
On the other hand on last night's semi-final a coed named Lindsay ran the Category Band Names: Good Charlotte, The Grateful Dead, My Morning Jacket, Nickelback and Fallout Boy.

The amount of midcard names are staggering? Well yea they have the same amount of midcard bands from last year, it's just the quality dipped.
Seriously last year we got Wilco and David Byrne, this year we got Tenacious D and Weezer.
Tell me there's not something wrong with that scenario. We had one of the best contemporary bands around along with one of the most influential artists of the past 30 year still making some great music. This year we got two joke bands who either haven't released anything worth listening to or haven't released anything worth listening to since their second album.
Nobody gives a crap if you have more room to dance, or if you're worried about our bad "vibes" we're worried about getting our moneys worth from a festival we love.
I've had a great time at 4 roo's. Just saying to put up with the ever changing rules sucks without a lineup that is anything less than stellar. It isnt just one band that brings me to the Farrm, or a band that doesnt tour a lot, it's all of the bands in one place and all I have to do to see one is walk to a stage. Every year, the choices are staggering, and this year wont be any different, even if the headliners (except for Stevie) aren't "wow".

#1. people complaining about searches are ridiculous. of the two years ive been to bonnaroo ("the worst years" for this apparently) i have had one thing confiscated from me, and that is a bag of beef jerky which i probably could have fought to keep but was just baffled and said "ok? take it then...." the next day some corn was taken out of my pocket, and then stuffed right back where they found it. going in the first year, my car was not searched at all. no one bothered to open the trunk and look in the cooler even. the second year the search was minimal at best. Going into centeroo we were waved through in bunches almost every time i went to the arch. AND even if they want to rip everything out of your car they do have the right to do that as you are entering their grounds and they need to make sure you dont have any prohibited items. i will never understand these complaints
as far as the music, bruce/phish/Beasties/NIN/Byrne >>>>>> DMB KOL Stevie Jay-Z The D Weezer
but im still going, hoping for LCD Soundsystem, Jay-Z and tDB late nights. any one of those will make the whole festival for me. KoL will give me prime time to rest up for latenight

I'm getting sick of people telling people to stop b*tching actually, and I'm not one of the ones b*tching. This is a bonnaroo forum and this is a fine place to bitch. These are people who love bonnaroo and well they don't need to say it over and over, they are perfectly entitled to not like the lineup and complain, just like you are perfectly entitled to do something else besides read it. As for the people who say they are never going back to roo, they need to stfu and really find something else to do cause why do you care if you're never going. People like that are hateboxes and are basically trolls.

Jay-Z and Stevie Wonder are bigger names than all of them. Just saying.
