I was wondering how the bands feel that so many people are unhappy with the lineup. Don't know if they read this stuff, but if they do, it can't make them feel too happy.

I don't think anyone is losing any sleep over it. There are plenty of fans that are psyched for the lineup.

I just wanna say I think I came down a little hard on Alex of CoS. I do think he screwed the pooch, or just got unlucky and got screwed over himself. But it's not like i think he tried to f*ck it up or anything. Dude tried, and people can believe who they want to believe. Also his list was pretty cool, at least helped me out a ton in the mad month before the lineup came out. I don't think I'll let myself believe the speculation, or even care about it next year. Cause even though we knew Dmb, Kol, and Stevie for some damn time, we didn't really know, and I just think it'll be better not to go through the agony of being all caught up in it.
Isn't it even more common for die-hard Roo fans to be frustrated that most of their friends aren't into the usual Roo lineups? So this is your chance to bring your ignorant musically unsophisticated friends to Roo with the lure of a disgustingly commercial lineup. Get them hooked this year, then next year we go back to good bands, bring them back, and they're on they're on their way to enlightenment, and you've built up your pool of potential festival camp mates.
I wasn't even speaking about my own case.
In my case, I was planning on doing the whole thing by myself if no one else wanted to go. I was going to drive the 15+ hours each way by myself, so on and so forth. Then the lineup came out. I can't really commit myself to all of that with the abortion of a lineup that AC released.
Really, though, all that needs to be done is to add Neil Young and MMJ and EVERYONE will be happy.
Couldnt agree more on both front big man... add one more big name and its point set match... honestly this lineup is pretty solid. I think the tipping points for people are the lack of what seems to be one more big name. I get the feeling that some view Jay-Z as a somewhat of a loss because its rap. Then they see DMB and figure seen it done it. They want that one big name that isnt doing the other festivals and was a rabbit out of the hat and KOL if not doing it for them. Yes, I agree KoL is not mainstage and Stevie Wonder is nice, but well not that cherry on top. Then they look past it and see names that they saw last year and think well they were there last year and now they just move up and lesser bands take thier place. I can understand that. Watching Zac Brown Band, Phoenix, Michael Franti and so on just move up is not that great of a feeling. Yet, let me just make this point. There are a ton of bands that are hands down amazing on the lower levels here. Mayer Hawthorne will blow people away. Regina Specktor, Deadmau5, Steve martin and the rangers, Chemero, John Prine, kid cudi, wale, the xx, ingrid michaelson, cross canadian ragweed. I mean these are great bands. I am a music lover of all traits. I will admit I dont get into the jam band, phish, dead thing. Last year I sat out both phish shows and rather saw phoenix and only watched 30 minutes of bruce to eat and head over to NIN. My point is this, I had a great time last year and I felt like the experience in itself was great. Along with all my other years. You folks seem to want legends every hour of the day and its just not possible. I ll tell you this, its going to be nice to see three different shows on the headlining nights and not just the same band twice. Walk around enjoy the weekend. I mean Jay-z into lips doing darkside will be amazing. Dave into Deadmau5 will be great if it happens.
As for traveling together. I agree whole heartedly. Im looking at all these extras roo sells. Tents for 4 people. Buses for 8. With the lineup not so hot for some it might be hard to sell all these. Im going with my girl and I would love a tent, but im not dropping $700 for one with 4 beds. I need one with one bed can i get it for $250? lol most likely not
Ill say this I have a feeling something big will happen. I have a good feeling kings of leon is not a mainstage super headliner. I think that one big name is needed and will come. Look at it this way. They posted a tweet today saying they couldnt tweet because the internet was down or whatnot... if it was a small band or someone that wasnt going to put a ton of pressure on the site they could just tweet mid level names through an iphone?
Hold out faith... but even if this is the starting lineup come gametime... I say its a solid 8/10

Yeah...I don't think there's a whole lot of angst over who's on the lineup. More who is NOT on the lineup.

This might sound weird but when I was watching the lineup get spit out, I was really excited to see Chromeo w/ Daryl Hall. Did anyone see Chromeo in 2008? They tore it up, great show.

Now that this lineup sucks and everyone is planning on going to different festivals this year, there's a one word solution: Pitchfork. www.pitchforkmusicfestival.com/ They're off to a fantastic start with the lineup. It obviously gets much bigger, check out last year's lineup. I've heard nothing but great things about this festival and it's only $90! No brainer.
Also, since it's in TN I'm sure lots of you already know about it but for those that don't, Big Ears festival. More pricey but once the full lineup is revealed I'm sure the weekend pass will be worth the $250. It's already pretty impressive.
This is such a bad year for festivals. At the start of the year I was planning on going to bonnaroo, coachella and rothbury.... No, no, and no. Thank god for Chicago.
In 2008 when chris rock did his stand up was he announced on the initial line-up or with the comedy acts? because I think a huge unexpected comedy act near the top of the bill would make this line-up alot more intersting (cheech and chong, chappelle, steve martin does a stand up performance) Just a random thought

I am very impressed and excited for many of the acts scheduled. If they add more it will only add to it. Look through the undercard and tell me it does not look great.
DMB, KOL, Stevie, and Jay Z will put on good shows...but i am going for the 'roo experience, the 'roo people, and everyone else on the billing.
The headliners are only toppers to what will be a wonderful experience.
can someone point me to where 311 actually confirmed. the link in the first post is just a twitter search for 311 and i can't find anything anywhere that says they will be there.
If they allow KOL to play unopposed on What Stage...i believe they will be the 1st band to be mercilessly booed.
Guess you missed Kanye. Besides, why would anyone boo KOL? Is it worth someone's time who really doesn't like them to go to the show just to boo? My hunch is that people will find something else to do.

Did you go to Pitchfork last year? It was probably the best $75 I've ever spent, if I lived in Chicago I'd go every year.

What's going to make or break this roo is how many douchebags actually show up to this. It's just the kind of lineup that's begging for douchey audience members with the likes of 311, DMB, Damien Marley, KOL, Michael Franti, Tenacious D, Rise Against, etc. I'm hoping most frat bros aren't going to bother going and it will be a nice laidback roo where we can easily get up close for the few good things like Stevie and JAy-z (with hopefully an appearance by Nas.)

No, I lived in LA last year so I didn't fly out for it. Now I live in Cincinnati and will most definitely be going to Pitchfork this year, already have my ticket for it.
I like a lineup that goes from country to metal all the way back to techno.
I know this is a few pages back but I'm just catching up and had to comment. There's no techno this year. There's a couple EDM acts but neither bassnectar or deadmau5 spin techno and nothing else on the lineup is techno.

Does anyone else find it f*cked up that Superfly tweets that they can't make their big announcement because of internet problems? Huh? Wtf man you guys need to quit using that thing, your tweets are all bullsh*t
Well it looks like I may be going anyway. I had all but promised to bring my nephew this year and he is stoked about the lineup, go figure.
There are acts that I look forward to seeing; DMB (even though I'll see them here w Gov't Mule opening a month later) Stevie Wonder (I know this will be a special moment at Bonnaroo) Weezer Flaming Lips ( If I can stay up that late) Norah Jones John Fogerty (I love me some CCR) Thievery Corporation (They were good at Langerado) Tori Amos (I love redheads) Les Claypool (c'mon it's Les) John Prine Jeff Freaking Beck Daryl Hall and Chromeo Disco Biscuits They Might Be Giants ( I like songs about science and geography)
Having written all of that out, it's not a bad list. I think my biggest problem is I've seen so many of these performers already, some several times. There's no WOW! factor happening, especially with the headliners.
im usually not a negative person and im one who says each year that if you dont like one headliner that gives you time to do something else. however, i say that because most everyone else usually LIKES the headliner that im not that into. this year is different as most all of us feel that the headliners are weak. it not that we wont like stevie wonder or KOL but i think the consensus is that we pay a lot of money and miss work and do a lot of planning to go to this festival and it seems like they really let us down this year
i dont think this year is the same as people being upset over one headliner. i dont think people are upset over any ONE of the acts this time and i see that as the important difference.
If they allow KOL to play unopposed on What Stage...i believe they will be the 1st band to be mercilessly booed.
You're crazy. As much as the people on here dislike them, the crowd at their show will not boo them. There will be tons of fans cheering. I agree they shouldn't get an unopposed What stage slot but if you think they'll get booed by the whole crowd then you've got another thing coming.

When I told my friends (who had gone to Roo 05 and 06 with me) that the 08 headliners were Pearl Jam, Metallica, and Jack Johnson.....they laughed their asses off at me and told me it would be the worst festival. They made me feel like it was going to be horrible and even I began questioning going.
I went and it was one of the best Roos of my life. We can do as much bitching and complaining and talking about how we were let down by superfly......but at the end of the day if you go to the festival and see as many acts as you want and have a great time then you really weren't let down. You just think you're let down because of your initial feelings towards the lineup without even giving it a chance to be great yet.

he forgets a hefty chunk of dipshits stayed til like 5 in the morning in 2008 for the least influential voice of a generation.
i know a lot of people who saw KOL here in town and they werent really fans and they ALL really liked the show and had a good time. i havent seen them live so im hoping to be blown away by them like i have been some other headliners. its possible KOL will be great. i dont think thats what most people are upset over. i think its more the general "meh" of the whole thing so far.

Maybe less bitching about the lineup and more thinking about how in 4 short months, we're going to be back on the farm we all love with good people, good food, lots of corn and music 24/7 for 4 straight days.
Bonnaroo is about the music, but that's only part of the experience. Maybe we aren't crazy about some of the headliners (I'm not thrilled about KoL but it will still be fun.) but we have a LEGEND like Stevie Wonder!
Yes, it was semi anticlimactic the way it was announced considering it had been confirmed elsewhere, and yes it would have been epic for Superfly to pull out some huge final name. However, even without that, Bonnaroo '10 is still about the overall experience and I for one cannot wait to get there this summer. Buy the ticket, take the ride people!
